Sunday Selections #508

Long, long ago, in days of yore...Kim of Frog ponds Rock, (who no longer blogs), dreamed up a meme called Sunday Selections.

A place where those who were willing could put up photos they wanted to share, new, old, good, bad or indifferent, any photos you please.

Nothing rude or vulgar though.

The meme is now continued by Elephant's Child and I occasionally join in as do a few others. Drop in to Elephant's Child and have a look.

Meg has had a little adventure:

Puppy!

BIG puppy 😀

His name is Freddy Mercury

Let's go exploring Freddy!

Uh-Oh, took the corner too fast

I'm okay, I'm okay.

I have a new candle, a wizard with three wicks, far too nice to burn. This is a combination birthday/Christmas gift from a daughter.

two lovely roses for my kitchen

Can you believe they are on the same stem? The buds begin yellow and finish white.

this bush in the garden by the Community Centre is similar

with the buds starting out orange

and fading through the shades to white

I love this pinky yellow sunset coloured stage best

Coming back onto my front porch I noticed a bee

who was very obliging

about moving slowly so I could photograph him

the rest of the neighbourhood has been awash in roses of white,

red and pale mauve

and yellow.

this footpath bed of roses sadly didn't last long, they are now browned from the sun's heat

to finish, how about this glorious corner of frothy bouganvillea? Stunning, right?

  1. I love Meg's adventures. Love the beautiful flowers. When it is Sunday here I might try to post some Sunday Selections also.

    1. Granny Annie; Adelaide is great for growing roses, we seem to have just the right conditions, although the sun can be too fierce and burn the more delicate ground cover ones. Meg loves "her" puppy.

  2. Freddie Mercury looks like a wonderful new friend for Meg. Love your candle and am blown away by the roses - and the bouganvillea too. A bright and beautiful Sunday Selections.

    1. Elephant's Child; I've had Freddy Mercury for quite a while, he wears Angel's spare collar. I tried to wrap the candle in clear cellophane to protect it from dust, but the outstretched arms proved too difficult, he now gets dusted with a soft paintbrush, as do several other more delicate ornaments. I loved seeing that entire corner of Bouganvillea.

  3. Freddie and Meg are an adorable pair. Cool he is big enough to ride.
So nice seeing all the beautiful blooms as we are in the non flashy part of Fall now. Not even pretty leaves so all your color was welcome.

    1. Arkansas Patti; even cooler that Freddy is a stuffed toy, no walking or feeding required. I thought all you northern hemisphere people would be welcoming the sight of our flowers about now.

  4. A cheerful start to a Sunday. :) I am still a huge fan of Freddie Mercury (and of Queen). And now I'm a fan of Meg's Freddie!

I hope you have a good week ahead, River...cuddles to the lovely Lady Lola. :)

    1. Lee; my Freddy was named for Queen's Freddie, meg seems to love him too. Lola posed nicely for a photo this morning, I'll post that next week.

  5. Those roses look smellable. The first one I came to, the kitchen roses, I could smell.

    1. Joanne; most of the roses around here are unscented which is a bonus for me as I cannot have scented ones inside, or I can't breathe at night. I discovered this my first summer here when I cut a few of the deep red scented ones and brought them in.

  7. I felt like the wizard was menacing Freddie for playing too rough with Meg! The roses are refreshing. I like that bed of white roses, and your kitchen pair. Plus the bonus bee!

    1. Val; the wizard is in a different room and not at all menacing. That bed of white roses never lasts long enough, as soon as a hot spell happens they get browned.

  8. Stunning flower photos. I am a little concerned about what happened between Meg and Freddy Mercury.

    1. Andrew; we do have stunning roses here. I put Freddy and Meg in different places, then accidentally rounded the chair in a hurry and knocked them over.

  10. No fear of dogs at all! And ohhh, the roses are plain... "plain" beautiful, they remind me a bit of Le petit Prince, the seem to be unique!

    1. Iris Flavia; no fear of anything for Meg, she's the adventurous sort. I love our roses too.

  11. I have those yellow roses that gradually fade to white/pink. They are so lovely. Yours are so amazing.

    1. Susan Kane; this one is a very small bush, often not seen amongst the more robust ones unless I walk through and between.

  12. Gosh I smelled those roses, what do they say about smell? The most poignant of all memories, something like that. And I'm glad Meg was OK from her tumble.

    1. WWW; most of the roses are unscented, which is fine with me, although I love the fragrance, my sinuses don't. Meg is very resilient.

  13. Ahhh, so this id´s how bougainvilleas look! Quite overwhelming. And a slow bee is a treat, thank you for this flowerful cornucopia.

    1. Charlotte; not all bouganvilleas look like this, I believe this one is a 'double' with extra petals and frilly too. Most are singles and come in a range of shades including orange and white.

  14. It's wonderful that you haven't lost your imagination and sense of play. As long as you hang onto that, you'll never grow old. (Not on the inside, anyhow, where it matters most.)

Those roses are breathtaking. I've never seen any that change color so dramatically. Peace roses have gradations of color, but nothing like those Australian roses. The bouganvilleas are gorgeous, too. I bet THEY have a heady scent.

    Take care.

    1. Susan; the bouganvilleas don't seem to have any scent, not that I can smell anyway and I'm grateful for that, with my hayfever and asthma. I love our Australian roses too, I'm sure you could find them somewhere in your country, perhaps at a nursery that deals in exotics?
I do enjoy playing with Meg and taking the photos, but some days are too filled with other things and I'd much rather crawl back into bed than face them. I do hope I never lose the ability to play.
