Sunday Selections # 517

Long, long ago, in days of yore...Kim of Frog ponds Rock, (who no longer blogs), dreamed up a meme called Sunday Selections.

A place where those who were willing could put up photos they wanted to share, new, old, good, bad or indifferent, any photos you please.

Nothing rude or vulgar though.

The meme is now continued by Elephant's Child and I occasionally join in as do a few others. Drop in to Elephant's Child and have a look.

In the back porch again:

the caravan park beach scene is coming along

a frog has booked a beach holiday and seems to be enjoying it

backed up against the cliff face is a Tiki Hut with a tiny gnome in a swinging chair which needs adjusting, he looks like he is about to fall out of it

off to the right is another Tiki Hut setting, this one could be a restaurant I believe

and up on the cliff above them, another, much smaller, miniature Tiki Hut

the caravan park now has  "grass" and there is a boardwalk (cardboard packaging) between the caravan park and the Tiki Huts leading onto the beach.

I heard the wonderful singing of a magpie as I ate breakfast one day last week, so looked out to see a young magpie getting her own breakfast.

of course I ran to get the camera, look how deep her beak is buried, looking for grubs

here she is running across the grass, you can see her body is quite small, a fully grown Maggie is much fuller in size, also the grey on the wings indicates a youngster. Adult magpies have white wings.

digging up another tidbit

A code cracker puzzle! I love these.

Can I help? I think the number 4s are all "e"

looky looky! I got a package in the mail, from Barbie. You all know Barbie don't you? Tall, elegant, a wardrobe for every possible occasion.

She sent me a new backpack for school

I'll have to walk around a bit and get used to carrying it before school starts.

also in the package was a bottle of water, must keep hydrated in this summer heat, a giant lollipop and a pair of shoes. Those won't fit, Barbie's feet are way smaller than mine.

I also received a parcel in the mail

what do you think this is?

it's a hand made footstool! And I am very happy with it.

I ordered it to replace this white plastic one which looks out of place here

this is so much better, the white one can go back into the bathroom now.

I need a small stool here to be able to more easily reach the upper reaches of the dvd shelves.

  1. Loving your selections this week. There is always something happening.
The footstool looks great - and decidedly more elegant.
The grey on the wings of the magpie (and how I love their call) could be a juvenile or a female. They are much less 'white' than their male counterparts.

    1. Elephant's Child; I though all the juveniles had grey wings. I'll have to have a closer look at the adults to see which ones are less white. I love the footstool, it can take my weight, but is lightweight itself.

  2. This is the first magpie I have seen. Think I'll Google their song.
You certainly have a story board handy with all your little friends. Love Meg's back pack. Funny how Barbie's feet are smaller. I think she would be quite larger than Meg.
Love that footstool. You must be a shortie like me.

    1. Arkansas Patti; Barbie is irregular in many ways, with feet shaped to go into the heeled shoes she wears.
Yes, I am short, only five feet tall. I can reach the top shelves, but it is easier with the footstool for a bit of extra height, especially when reaching into the corner behind the TV bench.
You'll enjoy hearing the magpies I think, they are quite musical.

  3. es, white IKEA footstools (or any other colour - ours are green and purple) belong in the bathroom or possibly in the kitchen. You deserve beauty in the living room. It is perfect.

    1. Charlotte; the living room becomes more perfect with each change. This footstool fits better with other wooden pieces I have. The white one is from Howards Storage World.

  4. I love magpies. My family of maggies serenade me frequently every day...and are always peeping through my sliding screen door knowing that's where their late afternoon meals come from.

Try to keep cool during that heatwave down your way, River. Have a good week ahead...cuddles to Lola. :)

    1. By the way, I meant to say in my previous comment...I'm very much looking forward to watching the new Aussie movie, "Penguin Bloom" starring Naomi Watts, Andrew Lincoln and Jacki Weaver, and the magpie, Penguin" (eight trained maggies were used in the making of the movbie).....it is getting rave reviews.

    2. Lee; I'm not the one who feeds these magpies, C a little further around the driveway does that. I just make sure my grass is watered enough to produce worms and other grubs for them and other birds.
I've heard the name "Penguin Bloom", but not much else about the movie. I'll add it to my list. I'm looking forward to seeing "The Dry" and 'Gold" starring Zac Ephron, which I think may be a remake of the Aaron Pederson one? Or maybe not.

  5. We used IKEA stools for years, until I stepped on a corner and went flying out of bed. So now we have a 2 step stool.

Magpies were persistent at one of our houses. they keep pecking at the kitchen window.

    1. Susan Kane; your Magpies might have been asking for water. I have a two step folding stool which I keep in the laundry section of the bathroom and use it for getting into the top shelf of kitchen cabinets and the top section of the wardrobe. It used to be my Dad's and I used it in his flat to wash down the walls which were browned with nicotine, until I cleaned and discovered a lovely light yellow. He was in hospital at the time, his last days before he died.

  6. Your footstool is much nicer than the old. Australian magpies are just a wonder to watch and listen to.

    1. Andrew; I am very happy with the footstool, I found it on ebay and it is so nice I gave the seller a five star rating and will probably send a proper thank you card, since it is hand made by him.

  7. I have a stool for high places too. I seldom use it; I shouldn't be addicted to tall places!

    1. Joanne; I use it mainly for ease of reach, but rarely have need of the two step stool, for the high cabinets because that's where I stash stuff I rarely use.

    1. Dora; all this fun happens inside and in the enclosed back porch, out of the sun.
But now even the back porch is too hot, I can't spend much time out there.

  9. We don't have magpies here but I loved them outside the window in Dublin. And your caravan park is so interesting along with the further adventures of Meg. And what a lovely footstool!

    1. WWW; thank you, I love the footstool too. Meg is wanting to get outside, but I've said she needs to wait until the heatwaves are over, she might melt out there.
Magpie song is one of my favourite sounds.

  10. Lovely selection - things happen at your house and they are good things.
Love the magpie - neighbour has about 9 magpies who come to feed at her house.

  11. I had a notebook just like that (or maybe still have) - a frog in such a sunchair with a drink :-)
    Love your caravan park!
Ohhhh, and a magpie, soooo sweet, they sure are clever, I remember one followed me as something had rolled under the car and also she wanted to know if I can get it back. Small as she was she copied me and turned her tiny head to have a look every few steps. Didn´t even run away when I turned around to look at her. Sweet memories, thank you!

Cute stuff you got for Meg! And oh. I can relate. I have a green IKEA mammoth-kids-chair in the kitchen to reach the things high up.
Sometimes frustrating when Ingo just reaches up and gets everything like that. And puts his darn backpack on mammoth, too!

  12. Such fun in the tiki huts and by the water!

The magpie reminds me of the crows here digging for grubs after the rain.

  13. I love the Tiki Hut Swinger! Also Meg's backpack and water bottle.
