I have a question

Where are all the loose, straight legged, fleecy lined, drawstring/elastic waisted pants I love to wear? In cotton of course. I hate the thought of sweating in  nylon and getting all clammy.

Don't even think of trying to sell me on those fancy fabrics that "wick away the sweat" leaving you cool.

I want the comfy pants I've always known and loved. And I want them with pockets!

Mine are wearing a bit thin, after who knows how many years and I'd like some new ones.

But all I can find is "leisure-wear", tight fitting, stretchy, the sort of thing you'd wear to go to the gym.

Even in the men's departments, nothing is straight legged, they all have that little ribbed ankle and they are not at all what I'm looking for.

And the sizes are different.

Bonds used to make them and I'd buy men's large, to fit over my enormous backside and the legs would be nicely loose and comfortable.

  1. Daughter found a pair in a discount store last year. But Canada. They're basically never off her when she's not working. I can ask her what the brand is? But might be meaningless in Oz.

    1. WWW; yes, meaningless in Oz, but I'll do another round of the discount stores before winter and hope to find some NOT made in China.

  2. When I want to replace something no longer in stores, I get the info off the tag which usually has the maker and id number then Google. Usually I can find someone who has bought up all the discontinued stock and can get all I want--if a wee bit more costly plus shipping. Good luck.

    1. Arkansas Patti; no such info on these labels, all is says is Made in wherever and cotton, or polyester/cotton, and the brand name, but that brand appears to be not making these anymore or they've been bought out by a cheaper company overseas.

  3. Good luck indeed. Arkansas Patti's idea is great but I suspect that many washes have obliterated that information on yours.

    1. Elephant's Child; most of my clothes have no labels at all since I remove them almost immediately. They are often sewn in with nylon thread which scratches, so they have to go.

    1. Kathy G; I have thought of that, but I want pants that have more than one season left in them. I'll look anyway, thanks.

  5. take your trousers to a sewer and have them copy the pattern, you choose the fabric, OR, make a pattern yourself and if you do not have a machine, hand stitch them. Easy peasy!!

    1. Linda Sue; I have a machine but haven't done any sewing in a very long while and I remember I'm not good at sewing pants, always manage to get that back seam wrong so it splits when I sit. Having a sewer or tailor make them would cost more than I can afford.

  6. Bitter laugh from here! When I see those blokes with pants hanging in their knees really or girls who just do not have "the figure" to wear ... what are those called, "slim-fits"? I sure will never buy either and sometimes am glad I am "old"!!
I found "normal, old fashioned" jeans in a store that had to close (hello, Corinna :-( ....) and they had them for half price. I bought three.
Maybe try small stores? Search online for used stuff?

I was soooo happy when the 70´s fashion came back. And as frustrated then when the 80´s showed up again, ugh! But this is even worse!

    1. Iris Falvia; jeans are another thing I need to buy, I can't fit into my old ones yet (for four years now!) so I will have to buy a larger size and I know where to get them. But these soft pants, which used to be called sweat pants, I just can't find them. Mine are almost ten years old now. You are not old, I have a daughter your age.

    2. When you´re young age is a matter, but not anymore, huh. Your Daughter is very lucky. I miss my Mum since 2011, shit#y cancer, that. Took away my Dad 2002 already.
Give your Daughter a big hug, huh.

  7. It's hard finding pants that are made of cotton, all cotton with pockets - certainly no good for me not having cotton as I like the fabric to breathe too, other fabrics are too hot!
    Good luck with searching.

    1. Margaret D; even harder to find decent cotton that isn't so thin it falls apart after a few washes. Clothing certainly isn't what it used to be, unless you have unlimited $$$

  8. I found some fitting your description here, but they seem a bit pricey for sweatpants. They have regular sizes and plus sizes, and petite or tall for shorter or longer legs. You can probably find the sizing on their website. It also has reviews of the product.

  9. I don't know if they are cotton or not, or if they are fleecy lined but R buy his 'at home' elastic waist and ankle secured pants at Big W. I will not allow him to wear them or feet thongs out of the apartment, not even to the recycling room.

    1. Andrew; I go to Big W quite a lot, they have the only I find comfortable. I'll check their range again, but don't want the secured ankles, I prefer them loose. I don't see why R can't wear them even to the recycling room, let the man be comfortable!
