Sunday Selections # 540

Long, long ago, in days of yore...Kim of Frog ponds Rock, (who no longer blogs), dreamed up a meme called Sunday Selections.

A place where those who were willing could put up photos they wanted to share, new, old, good, bad or indifferent, any photos you please.

Nothing rude or vulgar though.

And we don't mind at all if overseas bloggers care to join us.

The meme is now continued by Elephant's Child and I occasionally join in as do a few others. Andrew is one.  Messymimi is another. Drop in to Elephant's Child and have a look.

I mistakenly deleted a lot of new photos from my camera while watching TV, I started with deleting old ones and before I realised, half the new ones were also gone 😢
So here's a few of what was left:

*sweet potato and pumpkin soup, I had the whole recipe here in all the stages, but this is the only photo left

Lola was so sound asleep even the blending of the soup didn't wake her

she did later move to the sunny windowsill and continue sleeping, what a life eh?

this is the inside/back of my knee, I caught it on the top corner of the door to the cat carrier as I knelt to shove put Lola in for her visit to the vet. Two days later that bruise was larger and completely black. Doesn't hurt a bit.

Meg and Riley rolling out the dough

the olives and mushrooms are on, what comes next?

char-grilled capsicum strips (from a bought jar), prosciutto (just tear it, don't be all fancy and cut with a knife) and cheese
Girls: more cheese please!

That's better, we love cheese. Into the oven with it!

Jordan: it smells delicious!

aww shucks, this wasn't supposed to happen. About a third of the base stuck to the tray,

while the topping slid over to the cutting board, which didn't make it any less delicious

*Sweet Potato and Pumpkin soup recipe:

1 stick celery
1 sliced onion
1 clove garlic, crushed (I use a half teaspoon of minced garlic from a jar)
1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
1/4 cup water
250 grams (half a pound) sweet potato, peeled and chopped
250 grams butternut pumpkin (squash) peeled and chopped
3 cups vegetable stock

1- use the 1/4 cup water to saute/simmer the celery, garlic, onion and ginger until tender in a non-stick pan
2- add the sweet potato, pumpkin and stock
3- simmer uncovered for about 20-25 minutes
4- puree the mixture in a blender or use what ever blending/pureeing tool you have in your kitchen
5- reheat without boiling to serve.

  1. That pizza looks delicious. Don't mind the accident. I love the girls helping in the kitchen.

    1. Charlotte; the pizza was delicious for two days, then it was all gone. I still have that little ball of leftover dough in the fridge so I'll make one more small pizza for tonight. The girls love helping.
I'll be much more careful next time, but this time Lola was really fighting against going into the carrier.

  2. I am glad that you saved these photos.
    Ouch on your poor knee.
I have caught myself on the cat carrier more than once.
    Love the family cook-a-thon.

    1. Elephant's Child; I'm glad I realised before it was too late! The knee didn't hurt and still doesn't and the bruise is fading fast.
Cook-a-thon is a good word. Usually I am alone in the kitchen.

  3. I managed not to knock cooked pizza off the bench this time!! Happy days!! The soup looks delicious and I bet it tasted delicious, too.

My two furry mates were very vocal wanting their breakfast...and now they quiet again, waiting me to join them with the Sunday paper!

Have yourself a good week, River...no more bruisers. Cuddles to the lovely Lady Lola! :)

    1. Lee; glad you got your pizza this time. Lola isn't very vocal, but she is beginning to talk to me a little when she is hungry. Very small meows.
I'll be very careful for a while, so hopefully there will be no more bruises.

  4. Wow, one impressive bruise you have there. You need to quit beating yourself up.
That is my kind of soup. You could almost put it in a pie crust.
The girls did a good job with the pizza. Bet the "oops" didn't hurt the taste a bit.

    1. Arkansas Patti; the soup isn't thick enough for a pie crust, but it's better as soup, has quite a bite from the fresh ginger, so it is very warming on a cold evening.
The 'oops' part tasted just as good without a base, but I may oil the tray next time, or use some non stick baking paper.
      The bruise is already fading.

  5. Yowzer! I'm glad to hear the bruise doesn't hurt... (It sure looks like it would!)
The sleeping Lola on her blue blanket is beautiful.

The girls rolling out the dough is a fantastic photo! They are working so hard,
but the rolling pin is a good design for them.
LOL They are so fun. You make me smile

    1. Fresca; I'm glad the bruise didn't hurt too, I hate limping around and having people ask am I okay, then having to admit to carelessness.
The girls love kitchen utensils and helping out.

  6. When I was young I didn't bruise, now it complete different story.
Coffee is on and stay safe

    1. Dora; I didn't bruise when young either, now I only bruise if I get a hard bump, but the bruising seems to be larger and darker. It heals quickly though.

  7. The soup looks nice and rich and the pizza substantial. I expect there was left over pizza for the next day.

    1. Andrew; the soup is lovely with a bite from the fresh ginger. The pizza did last two days and I have the leftover dough in the fridge for another small pizza tonight. Tomorrow it will be chicken schnitzel and vegetables. I'll be spending the morning cutting and coating the chicken, then stocking the freezer.

    1. Joanne; that's because my home is such a homey place, cosy, warm, a little messy. Fun for kids and dolls.

  9. Jordan looks quite happy with the pizza. Or maybe she's just happy that her "job" is smelling it, not rolling out the dough!

    1. Val; Jordan was happy enough to just inhale the aroma.

  11. The pizza looks delicious. I hear there's a debate as to whether we should put pineapple on pizza. I'm not sure I care so much. Any pizza will do.

    God bless.

    1. Victor SE Moubarak; I always have pineapple if there is any available, but I had none this time. I never use chilli flakes or anchovies though.

  12. Sh#t! With the deleted pics!
Only 19C (in "summer"!!) - I´d be in for that soup!
Yupp. I bump into something, sometimes not even "realize" and look like that. Genes from my Dad. Great in summer.

OK, can you send the two girls over? I´d like a pizza now! With prosciutto.. ohhhh, awww. And cheese, hmmmm...
We´ll have Ragout Fin with rice for lunch and then mushrooms with rice.
That´s OK, I guess, but this Pizza...!!!

I go for the pizza (Ingo made pumpkin once and it was... not yummy...)

    1. Iris Flavia; I bump into corners of furniture a lot because my place is so small, but don't usually bruise unless the bump is particularly sharp, like the wire door on the cat carrier.
The girls have said Germany is too far away, they wouldn't get there and back in time for dinner and we are having schnitzel tonight, they don't want to miss that.
Did Ingo make pumpkin soup or pumpkin pizza? I think pumpkin pizza would be horrible, but maybe he could try my soup recipe which I printed at the bottom of the post?

    2. I´d rather have schnitzel.
Your girls sure a re right. I once "traveled" to Perth with my big Niece when she was younger. She pretended to sleep on the "plane".
Ingo just cut the pumpkin and cooked it, I guess. His Granma used to make it sour-sweet.
And once she forgot one in the cellar. Asked Ingo to bring it to the compost site.
I opened the door for him and nearly puked. Boy, that thing was totally rotten, water on the plate already. Granma all the while whilst Ingo went, trying not to puke, "the poor boy, the poor boy" - we still joke about that these days... "der arme Junge". Pumkin time here is around October, maybe (...) I come back to your recipe.

  14. Well, first, I hope you're healing! That looks so painful... The pizza however, looks delicious! Meg and Riley are great helpers! Thank you SO much for the soup recipe! I come from a family of soup lovers and we're always collecting recipes. I can't wait to try this one and pass it on to my sister. - Happy Monday!

  15. Your soup looks delicious. I love thick soups in cool weather. That pizza looks fantastic too. Once I had the top of a pizza slide off onto the oven rack while taking it out to check it. I just plopped it back on and it was okay. It's the top part that has all the flavour anyhow :) Do you make your crust from a recipe or a box?

  16. P.S.... I´ll have a Cuba-post for you tomorrow. Since you asked :-)
Thank you for digging up some memories!
