Sunday Selections #748
Long ago, Kim of Frog Ponds Rock, (who no longer blogs), dreamed up a meme called Sunday Selections.
A place where those who were willing could put up photos they wanted to share, new, old, good, bad or indifferent, any photos you please.
Nothing rude or vulgar though.
And we don't mind at all if other bloggers care to join us.
The meme is now continued by **Elephant's Child and I join in as do a few others. Andrew is one. Messymimi is another. Drop in to their blogs and have a look.
Wisewebwoman has also been joining us occasionally.
**Elephant's Child is currently taking a break
Beginning today with some cloudy skies sent to me by "no-one"
it's winter here
and sometimes our skies are grey
I don't remember if this is moon or sun trying to shine through
a very Halloweeny shot
last Thursday's Full Moon, thank you "no-one"
Last Wednesday it poured with rain almost all day, when it briefly stopped I poked my head outside to get this photo of driveway gutter puddles.
on my way home from visiting the twins I noticed more mushrooms of a different type pking their heads up through the mulch
some brown ones too
and a blue-tongue lizard startled into stillness by my footsteps, they don't usually come out in colder weather.
the next few photos are of bouquets of Ornamental Kale flowers for sale in my local Foodland supermarket:
pretty aren't they?
wonderful colours
they almost look like roses
but the petals are thick and when I felt one I thought they were wax
$20 per bouquet.
I didn't buy any. Do you ever see Ornamental Kale flowers in your shops?
I don't participate in any challenges or blog hops, but I wanted to say that your photos are absolutely gorgeous! :)
ReplyDeleteLinda's Relaxing Lair; thank you 😃
DeleteI've never seen kale flowers River and thanks for posting these gorgeous shots. I imagine ehty would be worth the $20 as they would last a long time?

Wisewebwoman; I've never seen any for sale as bouquets, but have seen them in nurseries and my mum used to grow some but none as fancy as these. I think they would last a while, longer than roses I think.
DeleteI like the gutter puddles. And the blue-tongue lizard. I wish he would have stuck his tongue out for you!
ReplyDeleteVal; I like gutter puddles too unless I have to wade through them to cross a road. Some are ankle deep or deeper. And when waiting to cross a busy road cars will drive through at speed and splash you. Not on purpose, that's just city traffic.
DeleteI have tried to catch a blue tongue photo, but they are very quick and this time of year I don't think I'd be lucky, they're usually hibernating.
I have seen the kale in shops. Is the colour natural or is there an additive to their growing medium?
ReplyDeleteIt looks like the moon shining through the clouds.
Andrew; I don't know about the colour but maybe there is an additive. It would have to be different for each colour. I think that is the moon.
DeleteI borrowed some trees. Look for them on a future Thursday.
ReplyDeleteMIke; borrow as much as you like, I don't mind and "no-one" doesn't mind either.
Deletethe mushrooms.... the white ones i suspect are inkcaps... probably shaggy inkcaps and the brown ones might be glistening inkcaps..... they don't last long before they turn to mush (deliquesce) - good word, that! The kale flowers, we just call them brassicas and yeah we do get them here too..... they're real nice
ReplyDeleteArcticFox; I've read about inkcaps but have only ever seen the very tiny ones, I didn't know what the brown ones were, they're all mush now. Kale is a brassica but I like the flower kind better than the edible kind. I'd rather eat cabbage.
DeleteThe winter sky, dreadful there today, windy, trying to rain and a bit chilly, 14 deg C.
ReplyDeleteLove your photos, the lizard, the flowers and the mushrooms R. :)
Take care.
Margaret D; we have 14C again today, I have the airconditioning running. The lizard was an unexpected sight for this time of year.
DeleteI love fog and that Halloweeny shot is great! As is the moon. And the rain puddles :-)
ReplyDeleteI never heard of kale flowers! I only know kale to eat and if Ingo wasn´t sick I´d make some chips/crisps (I have some in the freezer!). No rain today, cloudy, 17C. In one the hottest months... Aw, well.
Iris; I love the Halloweeny shot to and may use it one day in a story, the fog too. My mum used to grow kale flowers in Port Pirie. I don't like the eating kind, I prefer cabbage. We have 14C today (Monday)

DeleteNice varied selection. The kale bouquets are very colourful and almost don't look real.
ReplyDeletejabblog; thank you. I thought the flowers were fake so I felt one, and still thought they were fake, I'd forgotten about the ones my mum used to grow, she didn't have this many different colour though.
DeleteYour photo selection is real nice, perhaps I should participate too.
ReplyDeleteIngrid; thank you. We would love to have you join in, it doesn't have to be every week.
DeleteI too have never heard of kale flowers and I still cannot tell if they are real or not. If they are really available at a florist shop, I would like those with bright pink and bright orange colouring.
ReplyDeleteHels; these were at the local supermarket, but check florist shops and see if you can find some. Check nurseries too. They are very lovely.
DeleteThe skies are an ever changing canvass. As for kale flowers, I had not ever heard of or seen them.
ReplyDeletemessymimi; the skies are never still are they? On dull grey days they may look still, but the clouds are always moving. Kale flowers may not be available where you live, but check nurseries anyway, and show them these pictures.
DeleteIt's sunny and warm here in the Summer in England. Not a cloud in sight at the moment.
ReplyDelete:o)
Cheers
PM
Plasman; not so long ago I was complaining about our summer, now I wish I could get warmer. Enjoy it while it lasts.
DeleteI've never seen ornamental kale sold that way, as a bouquet, but they are pretty. Twenty bucks seems a bit steep, though.
ReplyDeleteSteve Reed; this is the first time I've seen bouquets of kale, $20 is too steep for me too, but probably a lot of work went into growing them.
DeleteAre the ornamental kale edible? Given you can't get a bunch of supermarket cut flowers under $25 these days, $20 sounds reasonable - especially if you can munch on the arrangement!!
ReplyDeletejeanie; ornamental kale is NOT edible, and I wouldn't want to eat such pretty things anyway.
DeleteThe Mushroom, here we call them shaggy manes.
ReplyDeleteDora; I don't know anything about mushrooms and different types, I just buy what I need from the supermarket.
