Well that was no fun at all
I have been to the dentist. Yes, again, and again and again and again...
I have been without several teeth in my lower jaw for a very long time now, using the lower front teeth to do any necessary chewing. Those teeth eventually became so worn down they were only half the original height. So I had crowns attached.
Then a mould was taken a week later to begin construction of a denture. Back I went today, in the fine drizzle and cold wind, expecting a denture, but no! the dentist took another mould to compare with the first one, but this time a different medium was used and instead of a slight tingling there was definite stinging at first and then a burning feel.
Of course the mould has to stay in until the medium sets so my discomfort became a little extreme. It seems I am allergic to one of the compounds. It was fiery! Oh, the relief when I was allowed to rinse and spit. I mentioned it to the dentist so he knows now that a different medium should be used if needed.
I have another appointment next Monday and then another a couple of weeks later to begin root canal treatment on a tooth that has been "flaring" (throbbing) on and off for a while. Nip that in the bud before the actual real pain begins!
On my way home this is what I saw:
A line of mushrooms wandering across the front lawn at an estate of units, possibly an old people's home, maybe not.

That was a most unpleasant experience. I hope the mushrooms made you smile.
ReplyDeletejabblog; thank you. The mushrooms did make me smile.
DeleteMuito desagradável o que aconteceu no dentista! Pena!
ReplyDeleteA foto linda!
beijos, chiuca
chica; usually a visit to the dentist isn't so painful except for the paying the bill part, but this was bad. The mushrooms are lovely to see, but probably not edible.
DeleteThat work must be costing you a fortune. I know what I paid for a root canal filling.
ReplyDeleteAndrew; it is expensive, I got quotes some time ago and began saving which took a couple of years, but I had the money needed and most of the work is done by now, also insurance pays a fair bit so that helps.
DeleteWe definitely take our teeth for granted until they fail us.
ReplyDeleteKathy G; I remember a sign on a dentist wall many years ago, with a picture of a bright smile and another with a mouthful of bad teeth, the words were "Teeth, ignore them and they'll go away"
DeleteI share your dental woes, River! Just got back from the dentist. She put me on antibiotics for an oral infection. I will need to have that tooth extracted, heal up and then get a bridge put in. My third one!
ReplyDeleteDebra She Who Seeks; I know that feeling, I had extractions and a bridge with three front teeth, but the brdige was attached to teeth either side that had root canal work done many years ago and the roots gradually died and one day the whole bridge just broke away at gum level, so I had to have those broken dead roots drilled out and now have a full upper denture. I truly envy those who manage to keep a mouth full of their own natural teeth for life.
DeleteDeepest sympathy on the teeth, River. And interestingly, where you see mushrooms in the wild like this, apparently there once were sheep there. I had them on my front grass at my last home and I was absolutely thrilled.

Wisewebwoman; Ugh! Teeth! I inherited my mother's tendency to root infections and thin enamel, also her weak fingernails, thanks mum.
DeleteThese mushrooms are in someone's front lawn, not at all a wild area, but I have noticed different types of mushrooms growing in many yards around my suburb.
It’s not easy dealing with tooth problems. I’ve been putting mine off, and need to find some money and a good dentist to take care of a couple of things before they become real problems.
ReplyDeletemessymimi; definitely make them a priority, though I know money is hard to come by. Are you able to make a time-payments arrangement for the work?
DeleteSorry about your tooth woes, but I love the picture of the mushrooms.
ReplyDeleteVal; thank you. I wish my teeth had been stronger and that I had been taught the value of brushing when young. I'm thankful all my kids got good teeth from their dad's side of the family. The mushrooms are a pretty sight aren't they?
DeleteI would not like to be a dentist. Even if a dentist is sensitive and cautious, not too many people like to visit him/her.
ReplyDeleteHels; it wouldn't be a job for me either, but I am grateful for those who choose that path. I don't mind going, modern techniques means far less pain than in the past. Being poor means the cost hurts me more than the treatments, but like every other business they have their own costs to cover, rent equipment etc, so the prices reflect that.
DeleteGosh R, that is not a nice experience with the burning etc. Good luck with it all.
ReplyDeleteLike the photo of the mushrooms.
Margaret D; I am very glad the burning stopped as soon as the mould was removed.
DeleteOwwwwww, my neighbours likely think I got this treatment. How awful!!!! I am sorry! Ingo has bad teeth and owwwww... Gosh am I lucky. Apart from one time I was really lucky (and the next dentist saved the tooth, too).
ReplyDeleteYikes. I feel for you! Brave through it and ask for - as my female, sweet, nice dentist calls it - "horse treatment"!
Iris; my dentist knows I have a sensitive mouth and gives a tiny amount of anaesthetic first to numb the gum a bit before injecting the rest and the needles now are so fine I barely feel them. You are lucky to have good teeth, my brother and sister also have stronger teeth than mine. For me the worst part is paying the bill, and a few hours later when the mouth and cheek begin to "wake up" with that funny tingling feeling.
DeleteWhat an ordeal, River!
ReplyDeleteI’m glad you got relief once the mould was out, though it must have felt endless while it was setting.
Hopefully the next appointments go more smoothly.
The mushrooms are nature’s way of cheering you on after all that discomfort. 🍄🍄🟫
Veronica Lee; it really did feel endless, I think I almost cried, but then it was taken out just in time and the relief was immediate. The mushrooms did make me feel better, a wavy line like someone was dancing while they sowed seeds, but I know mushrooms grow from spores not seeds.
DeleteOuch. My commiserations. Let's hope for a good end result.
ReplyDeleteCharlotte; I am also hoping for a good result, lower teeth that I can chew with, instead of empty gums. I have six front teeth, but only one back molar on each side. The upper jaw also has only one back molar each side and the rest is a denture now.
DeleteI have only two or three teeth more than you. Fortunately my "chewing teeth" - all two of them - still works. I dread the day one of them fails me ...
DeleteGood luck!
Good luck with all this. What a pain.
ReplyDeleteJenn Jilks; thank you, it is annoying somewhat but a relief when all is done and paid for.
DeleteWith so many problems and so much money to take to the dentist, (if they are also so expensive like here) I would think about false teeth ! I had a friend who was only 30 and had a disease on the gum, nothing helped despite she did everything to save her teeth, but finally she gave up. Today she is very satisfied, she is now in her 80th and still has the same false teeth from when she was 30 and something ! Good quality, poor dentist, he lost money !
ReplyDeleteIngrid; I have false teeth, but still a few of my own that are good, but not this one that needs root canal work. I have a friend in her 30s with gum disease and her teeth are gradually just falling out, she hopes to be able to get false teeth, but has a very low income and is unable to work.
DeleteI am so sorry that you are dealing with this! Your photo of the mushrooms is lovely.
ReplyDeleteLinda's Relaxing Lair; thank you. It will be over soon enough and I am lucky I was able to save the money for it.
DeleteSo sorry about your tooth troubles and dental visits are not cheap!
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
Lowcarb team member; thank you. I have insurance which helps, but also managed to save a fair bit on my own. Most things aren't cheap these days but businesses also need to cover their own costs, so we shouldn't complain too much for necessary things like dental.
