Musical Monday # 28

Musical Monday

I was introduced to Musical Monday by Delores who copied the meme from another site.

I think it’s a fun way to show off some of the music we like and brighten up our Mondays at the same time.

I’ll be finding my clips on you tube, so will simply credit that site since there are often so many versions of everything and I wouldn’t want to accidentally credit the wrong artist.

Today’s clip is: Tom T Hall

Old Dogs, Children and Watermelon Wine

This is my absolute number one favourite, it is the first song added whenever I make a new playlist.

Guitar, soft drums, harmonica and violins. I think there is a piano in there too.
Gentle and mellow.
And Tom T Hall's voice is rather soothing too.

What's not to like?

  1. A great old song...one that will last into eternity. Thanks, River. :)

  2. Lee; it will be on my playlists till eternity. I may have it buried with me. It's very soothing to listen to.

  3. Thanks so much for sharing that song today. It has always been one of my favourites and I'd not heard it for years. There is so much truth about old dogs and children (not sure about the watermelon wine although it sounds tasty).
I will replay it later in the day and enjoy it once again.
Hope you and Angel have a great week.

  4. This is neat and i have heard it before. It reminds me of some of the old songs my father used to sing to me when I was little. "The prisoners song" and there was another song that had the same melody...something like "Nobody's Sweetheart but Mine." This guy's voice is perfect for this type of song too.

    A good song.

  5. Mimsie; I'm glad to find something you remember and like! Watermelon wine sounds like it might have been one of those homemade wines that people used to make, like elderberry wine, raspberry wine, parsnip wine, although I don't much like the idea of parsnip wine.

Manzanita; Tom T Hall does have a lovely voice. I'll search for the other two you mentioned, maybe I'll find them.

  6. I haven't heard that song in such a long time! My mum used to sing it and play guitar when I was little, and the first time I heard this version, I thought it sounded just so funny sung by a man!
    A beautiful song.

They are both on YT and do have the same melody. I looked them up. I was singing them for a while but I stopped because even after all these years that my father's been gone, it made me so sad and I missed him terribly. But I'll soon be singing them again.
That June Carter Cash..... wife of Johnny Cash sang the Prisoner's song. I guess many of the words were written on the prison walls and a guy put them together and into a song (I forgot his name).
Thanks for bringing this song back and evidently it holds a lot of memories for many people.
