Wednesday's Words on a Friday
On Wednesdays, assorted
people have been taking monthly turns at putting up a selection of words which
is called “Words for Wednesday”.
This month the meme
continues here, with words supplied by Carolyn McBride.
Essentially the aim is
to encourage us to write.
Each week we are given a
choice of prompts: which can be words, phrases, music or images. What we do with those prompts is up to
us: a short story, prose, a song, a
poem, or treating them with ignore...
Some of us put our
creation in comments on the post, and others post on their own blog. We would really like it if as many people as
possible joined in with this fun meme.
If you are posting on
your own blog - let us know so that we can come along and read your masterpiece.
It’s a fun challenge…why
not join in?
This week's words are:
1. boots
2. cross stitch
3. hospital
4. President
5. planet
6. fairy
7. skin
8. loved
here is my story:
I'd been polishing my riding boots and my wife Denise was working on the fairy designed cross stitch project for her craft club, when the news came on the TV.
The new President was named and in her shock Denise drove the embroidery needle deep into the skin of her thumb.
I dropped the boot I was working on and wrapped her hand in a clean towel, then drove her to the hospital.
While I sat in the waiting room as Denise was treated and given a tetanus shot, I wondered what would happen now to the country I'd loved all my life. Reverberations would echo around the planet for sure.
Reverberations are echoing round the planet and no mistake.
ReplyDeleteGood story, topical and to the point.
Friko; welcome back. The words did seem to suggest shock and reverberations, they were very topical this week.
DeleteShock - good word.
ReplyDeleteGood story, River, many understand and feel the same.
S.J.Qualls; thank you, I'd say it's a toss up to say how many are shocked and how many are happy.
DeleteThe reverberations ARE being heard and felt around the world.
ReplyDeleteGreat use of the prompts.
Elephant's Child; thank you. I wonder how long these reverberations will go on. it's a BIG world.
DeleteSee! I knew you could do it once you had a good rest after a frustrating, tiring day of delayed buses! :)
ReplyDeleteLee; thank you. It didn't really take all that long, a coffee, a nap, a story :)
DeleteIt fits in with the news this week that is for sure.
ReplyDeleteMerle..........
Merle; it fits very well, I think most of us wrote something similar.
DeleteLooks like we were thinking along the same lines this week. Great job.
ReplyDeleteonly slightly confused; I think most of us were thinking that way. Thank you.
DeleteRather a fitting story with those words due to what has happened.
ReplyDeleteMargaret-whiteangel; it did seem rather appropriate for the day.Thank you.
ReplyDeleteI certainly could have stuck a needle in my hand too when the word came in about our new President. Timely and good short story River...of course.
ReplyDeleteGranny Annie; I was going to make it a sewing machine needle but didn't want to upset people so I went with embroidery.
DeleteThe words did make for a very timely story; that doesn't often happen.
Read this yesterday and thought how you had got it right. Right for the words - right for the time.
ReplyDeleteThanks River
Cathy @ Still Waters
Cathy@Still Waters; it's not often the words and the time mesh like this. Thank you.
Delete... hi River.... it's great that you will be getting a lot of cuttings to put into your garden... will be beautiful when they take and grow for you...
ReplyDeleteLove your 'appendix' cartoon.. I think I need something cut off for me to lose weight too xx :) .....
have a great day ..... Barb xxxx
Barbara; thank you. I hope the cuttings take, I have quite a few in pots on my porch, if they all grow I'll have a couple of rows of pretty bushes this time next year.
DeleteI need to give up the ice cream for me to lose weight :( hard to do with summer coming on.
