Wednesday's Words on a Friday

The original Words for Wednesday was begun by Delores and eventually taken over by a moveable feast of participants when Delores had computer troubles. Sadly, Delores has now closed her blog forever due to other problems.

The aim of the words is to encourage us to write. A story, a poem, whatever comes to mind.

If you are posting an entry on your own blog, please let us know so we can come along to read it and add a few encouraging words.

This month the words/prompts are supplied Elephant's Child by and can be found here

This week's words/prompts are:

1. bent

2. icon

3. never

4. quiet

5. half

6. hope

and/or:

1. other

2. mean

3. particular

4. little

5. life

6. anthem

Here is my story:

Daniel bent over the bassinet and whispered quietly, "I've never seen anything so little, she only fills half the bassinet. And to think we made her, this tiny life."

He turned to me with the goofiest grin on his face. "I'm going to send a text to Mum, I hope my phone has a 'baby' icon, then of course I will take a photo and send it to her. I'll bet you five dollars she will pack a bag and be here within a week. She's been waiting for this particular little girl for a very long time. All her other grandchildren are boys."

'It's hard to believe that all four of your brothers had only sons," I said, "then we have a girl on our very first try!"

"It could be a good thing in years to come," said Daniel. "When she starts school, no other kid will dare to be mean to her, not with seven boy cousins watching out for her."

"Listen," I said. "My anthem from my teen years is playing, "Hold on Tight To Your Dreams".

I'm going to tell her about that when she gets a bit older, how important it is to hold onto your dreams, no matter what."

I joined him at the bassinet, both of us looking down at our own little dream, our Christmas baby girl, Jennifer Angela Keane.

  2. That is beautiful River, reminded me of the ecstatic joy I felt when they told me it was a girl when everyone had said I was having a boy. Nothing like it.

    1. Elephant's Child; thank you. I wasn't sure I was going to get anthem in there, but that song is still my anthem now so I used that.
