Wednesday's Words on a Friday

The original Words for Wednesday was begun by Delores and eventually taken over by a moveable feast of participants when Delores had computer troubles. Sadly, Delores has now closed her blog forever due to other problems.

The aim of the words is to encourage us to write. A story, a poem, whatever comes to mind.

If you are posting an entry on your own blog, please let us know so we can come along to read it and add a few encouraging words.

This month the words/prompts are supplied by Charlotte and can be found here

This week's words/prompts are:

1. slowly

2. sign

3. metallic

4. agreement

5. reality

6. flash

and/or:

1. tomorrow

2. artificially

3. protested

4. sea

5. stump

6. labour

Here is my story:

“You need to face reality,” he said, with a flash of his megawatt smile, the one with the artificially enhanced choppers. “You’ve protested long enough, now sign!” The smile became a snarl as he handed me a metallic silver pen. “You’re the last hold-out. Everyone else has taken the compensation package and moved on. Tomorrow the bulldozers move in, so just go ahead and sign the agreement.”

I made him wait while I slowly read every single word of it, then added my name on the dotted line. I handed it back to him and in his satisfaction, he didn’t notice that I had pocketed his pen.

I made my way outside as he packed up his briefcase. Sitting down on an old tree stump I surveyed my garden and small home, the only one left now in a sea of empty lots where my friends and neighbours had once lived. My garden had been a lifetime labour of love, started by my wife and lovingly cared for by me since her death ten years ago.

As Mr Sparks drove away in his fancy car, I closed my fingers around his pen and whispered my curse. This would be the last package land deal he would ever make. From this day forward his career would falter and he would one day face the same fate I and my neighbours had.

    1. Charlotte; thank you. Sometimes it's hard to tell who is a wizard, as Mr Sparks is about to find out.

  2. Excellent. Hope Mr. Sparks gets whatever is coming to him for stealing homes and land.

    1. Granny Annie; he learns in the end what it feels like to be bullied out of your own home so some high-financed developer can make even more money.

  3. Got to hope her hex on him works. Sadly that is too often a true story.

    1. Arkansas Patti 'his' hex and it will work. it's a very true story around here that's for sure. People are losing their homes so roads can be widened to save maybe three minutes of travel time.

  4. Everyone who does such things should end up having a taste of his/her own medicine.

  5. Always sad when tenants are thrown out like that and for that reason, hope Mr. Sparks gets what he deserves!

    1. Iris Flavia; big developers don't care about the people's lives they destroy when they buy up land, all they see is $$$, so Mr Sparks deserves what he gets from the curse.

  6. A curse is it? Mr Sparks deserves it. I'm kind of surprised by the ending but I like it. Great use of the prompts.

    Have a lovely day.
