Sunday Selections # 611

Long ago, Kim of Frog ponds Rock, (who no longer blogs), dreamed up a meme called Sunday Selections.

A place where those who were willing could put up photos they wanted to share, new, old, good, bad or indifferent, any photos you please.

Nothing rude or vulgar though.

And we don't mind at all if overseas bloggers care to join us.

The meme is now continued by Elephant's Child and I occasionally join in as do a few others. Andrew is one.  Messymimi is another. Drop in to their blogs and have a look.

Between home and the shops:

the big fancy block of flats fronting on to Fullarton Road are nearing the finish line at last, I saw electricians putting outside lights on the balconies

a giant vacuum truck was sucking out construction dust

behind the big block of flats, in a side street we can see a row of townhouses being built and on the other end of the fancy flats are more townhouses, using every available inch. No room for gardens here.

they are looking nice, though I wouldn't want to live in one, they're much too close to the road and I hear enough traffic already.

honeysuckle is blooming now

the blossoms open white

and yellow as they age. They don't last long, but new ones continually open as the old ones die

across the road from the big fancy flats, 13 townhouses are being built on a block that once held two single family homes with plenty of yard space. These connections look like they will be attached to electric meter boxes.

on the opposite front corner, more connections, possibly for gas

but more likely for water, judging by these meters

finishing up:

"we love our tummy time with our toys"

  1. I do hate when family homes and yards are destroyed and crammed with townhouses with no gardens. It happens far too often. And your babies are thriving!

    1. WWW; the old homes were very old and not at all cared for, plus they had asbestos which is dangerous. it was time for them to go. The babies are doing so well :)

  2. LOTS of building work going ahead in your area. I hope they are affordable.
And of course I love the happy, healthy babes.

    1. Elephant's Child; affordable? hahahahaha! maybe for someone on a much higher salary than I ever earned. The babies are always happy, until they are hungry or tired, and I'm glad they're healthy.

  3. I am really glad I have the gardens in front - not ours, but the neighbor´s, we hear no traffic.
    Cute twins :-) oh, summer.
    We had -6C.

    1. Iris; we have the gardens around our old units, it was planned that way and I'm glad. So many housing trust blocks are just rows of highrise flats. Summer? Hah! Cold and rainy again, and still. We had two sunny days. The wins here were inside at "no-one's" house with a heater on. I have NEVER felt -6C and I never want to.

    2. LOL, I´m with you with the -6C. Right now I´m wearing two pars of long trousers (one thermo) and have my microwave-tiger in my lap... Can´t wait for Spring...

  4. Hum, wonder if those vacuum trucks do homes:)
Love the smell of honeysuckle and they attract hummingbirds here.
The babies look ready to crawl

    1. Arkansas Patti; I don't know if they do houses, but maybe in your area is someone who would vacuum your place for a fee? I love honeysuckle, it is sweet but doesn't bring on my hayfever. The babies aren't quite ready to crawl, they need to learn to lift their tummies off the floor. A couple of months I think and they'll be moving.

  5. With housing being a much needed commodity at present these new premises will be very welcome, I'm sure.

The girls are probably talking about us between themselves! :)

Have a good week ahead, River...I hope the weather treats you kindly. Cuddles to the lovely Lady Lola. :)

    1. Lee; these are billed as "luxury" apartments, hardly affordable to the many homeless. All of them sold before the building was even half finished.
I don't think the girls are at babbling stage yet, but I'm sure they communicate somehow with each other.

  6. Progress and housing, always need housing. I'm sure the people who will live in those houses might have a pot or two and grow something green or food in them - hopefully.
The babies are looking well too.

    1. Margaret D; I agree, housing is necessary. I just wish the government could (would?) do more about all the SAHousing homes that are currently empty but unliveable. They don't need to be fancied up too much, just get them to a pint where a family could move in and get off the streets. The babies are very well.

  7. Honeysuckle are such a nice plan, we have them here as well and the smell is pleasant and bees of all kinds love them.
Those gardenless houses are so not nice.
Bu the twins make everything end well.

    1. Charlotte; there are three homes near me that have honeysuckle and I have a plant in my garden but it isn't doing well and has only three flowers. Just looking at the twins makes me feel better.

  8. We loved honeysuckle as children, enjoying the nectar as often as we could.

There's such a need for affordable housing but the contractors don't want to build such things, it doesn't make enough money for them.

    Those babies are beautiful!

    1. messymimi; I never knew about honeysuckle until I moved to my previous home where I grew a "giant" honeysuckle with large leaves and flowers four inches long. There's always a need for affordable housing, but even what the government deems "affordable" is out of reach for many on less that average wages.

  9. I LOVE honeysuckle! We used to take an evening drive along the back roads in the summer, to get ice cream, with the windows down to smell all the honeysuckle growing on the fence rows. The boys never pulled out the insides and tasted the nectar like we did as kids. Why would they? They had ICE CREAM! The girls look like they're having a grand old time!

    1. Val; I wish there was more honeysuckle around instead of the night blooming jasmine (jasminus polyanthus) which keeps me inside for a good part of the spring season, the scent is released when the sun goes down until about 9am the next morning and hangs in the air like a fog. "no-one" says the girls had a wonderful time on the floor with their toys and bottles of milk. I'm not surprised, babies just love her.
