Sunday Selections #683

Long ago, Kim of Frog ponds Rock, (who no longer blogs), dreamed up a meme called Sunday Selections.

A place where those who were willing could put up photos they wanted to share, new, old, good, bad or indifferent, any photos you please.

Nothing rude or vulgar though.

And we don't mind at all if other bloggers care to join us.

The meme is now continued by Elephant's Child and I join in as do a few others. Andrew is one.  Messymimi is another. Drop in to their blogs and have a look.

Wisewebwoman has also been joining us occasionally.

this month's calendar page

the tail end of last week's wall mural

one of the many differently painted utility boxes on Melbourne Street, North Adelaide

and a Floral delivery van

this Chemist (pharmacy) had not one,

but two, hat stands packed so full of hats for purchase. See the bright red one?

it has a pretty floral lining. I thought of buying it, but didn't, I already have several hats and only ever wear the blue one.

Street lamps are very pretty along Melbourne Street,

this wonderful old building looks like it was once a church, but is now part of an Arts and Antiques business.

I love the lamps on either side

and the lions keeping guard outside, there are two.

this beuatiful building next door is also part of that Arts and Antiques business. I can imagine it once being a house and just the sort of house I would buy and live in if I had oodles of cash.

the photo doesn't show it, but this sign has gilded edgings and shone quite brightly in the sun that day.

and how about this staircase? stairwell? I LOVE it. I asked permission to photograph it and the two lovely people just to the left there smiled and said yes. Thank you.

Back in the suburbs now, at the twins home, they had a trail of Bunny Paw prints to follow from their beds on Easter Sunday

a sign that reads have a very Hoppy Easter, enjoy your Egg Hunt

here is one bedhead twin with a bag of gold-wrapped chocolate coins

and the other twin with her bag of chocolate coins. There were eggs galore to be shared with the three brothers and the parents too.

  1. I love that sweeping staircase. I'll never have one like that but I can still dream.
The red hat with the floral lining is pretty - I'd have been tempted.

    1. jabblog it is just so elegant, I can imagine people all dressed to the nines climbing up to a party room. I was tempted by the hat and maybe I'll buy it if it is still there next time.

  2. That is an AMAZING staircase! And I love the painted utility box too. It seems like many cities are catching on to the fact that they're perfect canvases for art.

    1. Steve Reed; it is amazing and there is another in Adelaide that I would like to photograph but it's inside a bank, so maybe I wouldn't be allowed. Painted utility boxes are so much nicer than dull grey or brown cubes squatting there.

  3. I really like painted utility boxes. We have them too.
That staircase is made for grand entrances isn't it?
Love the twins in their bunny ears.

    1. Elephant's Child; I like the painted boxes far better than the plain ones. I can imagine people on that staircase, reception area below, party upstairs.
The twins have several sets of bunny ears in different colours.

  4. I like that delivery van and the street lamps. The staircase is amazing! Cute little bunnies with their coins. Holidays will only get more fun as they grow.

    1. Val; I see that delivery van fairly often, or others just like it, delivering live plants to various offices and restaurants. The staircase is one of the most elegant I have ever seen. I think Melbourne Street is the only one to have those street lights.
Once the girls learn what holidays are all about I think they will have more fun, for now it's just another special day without knowing why.

  5. The Elder Fine Art building still looks super. I too would have loved it for our home, if money wasn't an issue. But how many of these Victorian lovelies were destroyed over the last 120+ years?

    1. hels; probably far too many have been destroyed, but there may have been good reason for at least a few of them. Salt damp, rising damp, termites, these were constructed long before damp-proofing was even thought of. And with Adelaide's reactive clay soils, many might have been badly cracked and too costly to repair. Which is a shame as they were far prettier than the giant glass and steel cubes that were built in their place.

  6. Did they share their chocolate?

    1. Mike; I wasn't there for Easter Sunday so I can't say for sure, but I think they might have. Anastasia always makes sure her sister has some of what she is having.

  7. Hey, River...I've not even hung up my calendar bearing all the beautiful cat piss..and probably won't get around to doing so. Time seems to be flying by at a rapid pace, there's little time to turn over the pages! I've got a small one, with each month on just the one small piece of cardboard sitting in the top drawer of my bedside set of drawers, when required.

The girls will be wishing every day was Easter! :)

I hope you have a relaxed and enjoyable week ahead...my cuddles to lovely Lady Lola. :)

    1. Lee; there is still plenty of time to hang the calendar and see the pictures. The girls may already think every day is Easter with the amount of chocolate in that house right now. They'll have enough for a bit each day for a couple of weeks.Lola is dozing in the sun on the windowsill right now.

  8. I missed where your wrote North Adelaide and assumed you were in the city and I wondered why I couldn't remember Melbourne Street. It's not a part we've visited and I can see we should have. The staircase is just fantastic. Thanks for the photo effort. All twinnie chocolate gone now, I am sure.

    1. Andrew; you'll just have to make another trip and see Melbourne Street for yourselves. The twins and their brothers have plenty of chocolate left. Well they did have, it may be gone by now.

I hope the twins and the whole family enjoyed a beautiful Easter.

    1. messymimi; I LOVE the staircase. They all did have a great Easter capped off by the landlord renewing their lease, big relief there!

  11. The little ones there enjoying themselves :) sure does make me smile R.
    Love that staircase, it's different.
The mural is very nice, we have paintings on ours but they are nothing to write home about. Those street lamps are beautiful, love lamps like that.

  12. Love the calendar page. And the murals - there is a cousin of Henry!
Yes, the red hat jumped into my eye. At our newsagent. Well. I "lost" my red hat at the one dollar store and saw a birght new red hat there. But. I went to look for my old one and found it.
I could not buy the new one, I love my old one. (Looks tempting, though! Also the inside!).
And another cousin of Henry - the dude sits on my lap now!!! (Kidding, he´s hanging onto the lamp).
Beautiful house - love the verandah.
    Stairway to heaven?
Cute closure to your hoppy post!
P.S. Have the book for you etc on :-) Have a happy rest-Sunday.

    1. Iris; I knew you would like the cousin of Henry and the red hat. i may buy that if it is still there and if it isn't too big for my small head. Maybe not a stairway to heaven but pretty close. My little Henry hangs off my lamp too.

    2. Ingo got me a new kid´s hat. He had to make it smaller... Seems like Henries love lamps!

    1. Charlotte; If I had oodles of cash I would live near the ocean. Or nearer to the twins. I don't think the Arts and Antique shop is open for browsing every day. I think they open when they have a consignment or maybe online. I didn't inquire.
