Sunday Selections #708 How can it be Sunday again already?? Didn't we have Sunday just yesterday?

Long ago, Kim of Frog Ponds Rock, (who no longer blogs), dreamed up a meme called Sunday Selections.

A place where those who were willing could put up photos they wanted to share, new, old, good, bad or indifferent, any photos you please.

Nothing rude or vulgar though.

And we don't mind at all if other bloggers care to join us.

The meme is now continued by Elephant's Child and I join in as do a few others. Andrew is one.  Messymimi is another. Drop in to their blogs and have a look.

Wisewebwoman has also been joining us occasionally.

This month's calendar page

One of the gum (eucalypt) trees towering over the two storey building next to it.

One of the seven rows of garages here, this is the longest one, the others have fewer garages.

I think these are the same African daisies Andrew showed on his blog yesterday.

A deep red rose with a wonderful scent

one of several stands of lavender swarming with bees

loquats ripening on the trees, the fruit is edible when fully ripe but not worth the trouble, the flesh is meager as the seeds are large and there are three or four of them in each fruit.

this is the tree hive where all the bees live

I made a short video with my phone so you can see the bees buzzing in and out of the hive, hope it plays, but still haven't got the hang of stopping the recording so there's a mishmash of bits at the end.

last week there was a "sausage sizzle" type gathering at the community room, they have them once a month but I don't always go, I took photos but no one was happy about their faces possibly being on the internet, so all you get is this man's lovely purple hair.

Ana enjoying trying to catch the bubbles, last summer that dress was below her knees,

and Gen also trying to catch them.

on the slide at the local park, it isn't too high, but is much higher than the tiny one they have at home which they have outgrown

Ana takes a turn

They love the slide but don't yet go down on their tummies like they do on the little one at home.

Daylight saving starts here today, I hate it and we have it for six months.

SIX LONG MONTHS!!

  1. I didn't know lavender attracts bees but the smell is so strong it certainly attracts humans.

    1. hels; all flowers attract bees and lavender is very popular with them, one bush can have as many as a hundred bees buzzing around all at once.

  2. Playing with bubbles is such fun, seeing the rainbows in them. Beautiful lavender - I'm envious. it just won't grow for me.

    1. jabblog; I love bubbles too and sometimes blow a few with the dishwater suds. There are several varieties of lavender, maybe try one your local nursery recommends?

  3. Love the bubble catchers. I agree with you about daylight saving. We start it too early and continue it for toooo long.
    That purple hair is lovely.

    1. Elephant's Child; I always have a bottle of bubble solution here and blow a few now and again just for myself. I wish daylight saving could be permanently cancelled. It serves no purpose now that worldwide communications are 24/7. That purple hair is lovely isn't it?

  4. Good morning, River. I've not had a loquat since I was a kid. We had a tree growing in the corner of our yard, and used to raid it when it was bearing fruit. Nana sometimes made jam, too.

The beautiful little ladies, as always, are enjoying life, and each other's company.

Enjoy your week ahead, too...take care.

    1. Lee; I remember loquats from childhood too, they were nicer than the ones here which might be better if they got more water. The twins are growing up so fast now, leaving the baby behind and becoming little girls.

  5. Yes, the flowering African daisy is the same as mine. Since I took the photo, there aren't any new flower stalks, so it will be quite short lived, which is rather disappointing.
That is a massive gum tree.
The bee clip worked out well. Bzzzz.

    1. Andrew; I thought the flowers looked the same. These ones are in a garden and have spread into a fairly large patch, probably yours would do the same if you could plant it. Maybe offer it to a family member who has a garden? Many of the gum trees around here are very tall and there is a silky oak across the road that I can see from my window, it towers above the electricity wires. I'm glad the bee video worked, now if I could just work out how to stop the recording...

    1. Joanne; thank you, I love seeing the girls and spring too, but don't enjoy all the hayfever pollens.

  8. That's a tall gumtree R. The garage is long and indeed that red rose would smell gorgeous; I'm smelling it. Children just love to play with bubbles, it must fascinate them.

    1. Margaret D; it is a tall tree, there are many around here and several drop branches when we have gale force winds but that one hasn't yet. That particular row of garages is the longest and there is another directly opposite it which is a little shorter, there are others scattered through the grounds. I love playing in bubbles as much as the twins do.

  9. I like your bees. We had a similar tree in our village. Daylight Saving Time! Grr, hate it too, and we still have 3 weeks left!

    1. Charlotte; there are several trees in the surrounding neighbourhood that have similar hollows and I hope they have bees too. Daylight saving should be abolished in my opinion.

  10. That's a lot of bubbles! Certainly enough to keep the girls occupied. I've never heard of a loquat, but I'll take your advice to not eat them.

    1. Val; the girls have a couple of bubble making machines, battery operated. I don't think you have loquats in your country.

  11. Delightful selections. This daylight saving business needs to stop, I don't know why governments everywhere haven't simply done away with the foolishness.

  12. I was offline yesterday, so only today:
Love your calendar page!!! Wish I could follow that tradition. To not be sad someone left but to celebrate the person was in my life.
This is a gift. We should take it....
To have a garage!!! We (now Ingo only) circle forever for a (so far) free parking lot...
Reckon birds love the loquats? Yay to a place for bees. Hope they have a "not so troubled" life ;-)
I let Ingo do a video I´ll show soon cause me... as you... "mimimi".
    Purple. Hm.
My friend fK is 6 years younger than me and grey. But a light grey. No idea what to do if my hair... cutting it off??
Metal slides in Australia??? Do you roast your kids? It was bad even in Germany in summer...
Oh... f.... on 27th we turn to winter-time. I hate that. It makes no sense. It only ... too long.

    1. Iris; there is no reason you can't follow that tradition. Many people here have a garage even without a car. They use it, like I do, to store things that don't fit in the tiny flats we have. Some flats have two bedrooms so the second is used as a storage room or maybe a proper dining room. When someone leaves to go to a nursing home or perhaps they die, their garage gets cleaned out and whoever gets there first with a padlock can claim it to use. The birds do like the loquats and any other fruit on other trees, which is why I never get any plums from my trees, the birds get them first. I don't mind.
I don't know of that slide is metal or not, some older playgrounds still have them and kids are smart enough to stay off them in extreme heat unless they are in the shade.
I love that purple hair and for many years a near neighour had brilliant deep purple hair when she didn't dye it bright red, now she has white hair. Some of my hair now is more white than grey. Why would you cut your hair? If you don't want grey then dye it, but then you have to keep dying it because the roots will aways show grey. Just let it get grey naturally.

    1. Steve Reed; the purple hair is great isn't it? My oldest had neon pink for her son's wedding but now she is letting it go grey. Most eucalyptus are very tall, though there are some shorter varieties.

    1. Wisewebwoman; I love lavender too but don't need to grow my own as there is plenty here in the grounds. The girls are growing so fast, you'll never guess what they did two days ago, pictures next week.
