Sunday Selections #711

Long ago, Kim of Frog Ponds Rock, (who no longer blogs), dreamed up a meme called Sunday Selections.

A place where those who were willing could put up photos they wanted to share, new, old, good, bad or indifferent, any photos you please.

Nothing rude or vulgar though.

And we don't mind at all if other bloggers care to join us.

The meme is now continued by Elephant's Child and I join in as do a few others. Andrew is one.  Messymimi is another. Drop in to their blogs and have a look.

Wisewebwoman has also been joining us occasionally.

Starting again with the twins:

Ana enjoying the splashpad

Gen also enjoys getting wet

Daddy put up the umbrella for shade

letting the jets squirt her

splashing hard

meanwhile in my yard:

I'm growing a potato plant!

Friday I took a walk through the city, and saw a few interesting things on my way to the river:

"Naughty Nanna's Cookies"

John Lennon on a building in Halifax Street

our Victoria Square fountain

a single newish boot left all alone on a street seat

My destination was the Torrens River where the OzAsia Festival is being set up:

a gondola on the water

and then....Ta Da! the one thing I walked for miles to photograph:

The Dragon on the footbridge which crosses the river with the convention Centre on the city side and Footy Oval on the northern side.

There is her full length, almost half the bridge I think, maybe a bit more

different colours along the length

Her head and a couple of people who hadn't moved along yet, I waited quite a while to get each shot so as to avoid having people

Isn't she magnificent?

  1. That is a gorgeous dragon. very eye-catching in all her beauty.
The little girls know how to keep cool in the heat. Water is such a wonderful element for children.

    1. jabblog; she is gorgeous and I'd love to have a mini copy in my garden, I'm very glad I made the effort to go and get photos.

  2. Remember how young and cute John Lennon once was? Remember when he was tragically killed while being nice to some American man?

    1. Mike; we'll never know, but there have been brawls in the city, perhaps the boot got lost during a scuffle, though it doesn't look damaged at all.

    1. Elephant's Child; I love the dragon too, she is only a temporary fixture for the festival though. The twins are here forever.

  6. The dragon is great. What a terrific display and she looks very fierce.
    The Lennon painting is huge!
The splash pad would mean you don't have to supervise quite as closely as you would with a pool of some sort.

    1. Andrew; she looks like she could get fierce, but she's smiling, happy to be here. The lennon painting is not too huge, but huge enough for me to admire the talent it must have taken. It takes up about half or a third of the width of the building. I wish splashpads had been around when my kids were little. The water level builds up to about three inches, so supervision is still a good idea in case they fall face down. There is always at least one person out there with them.

  7. I sit here freezing, looking at the twins enjoying their splash pad! That IS a magnificent dragon. The poor boot should not be left alone. I wonder if the cookies would taste as good if Nanna wasn't naughty.

    1. Val; of course the cookies would taste as good, I suspect it's the ingredients that are naughty, not the Nanna. Sugar and chocolate and other decadent things. I'm glad you love the dragon, the colours are perfect for this spring festival. Much of the action takes place at night so I won't be seeing any of that unless they show it on TV. I'm sorry you are freezing so early in the season. Can you buy some fur-lined Eskimo clothes? Bear skin rugs to wrap around yourself? I love seeing the girls enjoying water like I do.

Have a happy week ahead, River...take care. My cuddles to Lovely Lady Lola.

    1. Lee; they certainly brighten up my days and they voluntarily come to cuddle me now too. The Lovely Lady Lola has taken over my bed, I'm going to need a giant lint roller to get the cat hair off the sheets.

Yesterday at the new company´s place they really had but cookies and cakes!!! That I call "naughty"!
    Nothing salty.
John Lennon really is cool and the fountain is really nice. The boot is a bit scary. What´d happened?
Are we still in Adelaide or did you beam to Venice? Oh, you hopped to China. Beautiful dragon! Very beautiful. Wow. And "buh!!".
I remember in our little shopping center in Madeley/Perth for Chinese New Year a dragon in fun went at me. I yelled and nearly dropped my camera.
This one is really very beautiful. We don´t have that here in Germany.
Thank you, this was a joy to see, happy Sunday!

    1. Iris; probably because most people enjoy cakes and other sweet things, caterers forget that not everyone does, they really need to think more carefully and provide a savoury option. I really like the John Lennon mural and wonder if other members of The Beatles are on other walls in the city. It might take me a long time to find out.
This dragon is on the footbridge across the Torrens River here, where they are setting up things for the annual OzAsia Festival. She is not mechanical, just ornamental. I wish she could always be here. I know nothat at all about the boot, it was just there, all alone.
We never had a small backyard pool when I was little but the beach was a five minute walk from our house.

    2. A sadly former friend of mine for her birthday made pizza-muffins "just for me". I got one, LOL.Many people hate sweets, she had to learn...
HA. you got the mural-virus, too?
Yes, that dragon should stay there!
An old water-filled sandbox is easlily beaten by the ocean ;-)

  11. Wonderful to see these photos. The twins are having a great time and it makes for happy photos when they are.
    What kind of potatoes r?

    ReplyDelete

    1. Margaret D; the twins always love being outside and in water too. The potato is a kestrel that was "chitting" (shooting) in the cupboard so I cut off that section to plant and it seems to be doing well. I haven't had home grown potatoes since 1999 when I was turning over the compost heap after a winter/spring and found it full of potatoes that had grown from peelings, 2 buckets full that time.

  13. Yes. That Chinese dragon is indeed magnificent but not as magnificent as your twin granddaughters. They look sturdy and happy, experiencing a fine start to their lives.
