Sunday Selections #762

Long ago, Kim of Frog Ponds Rock, (who no longer blogs), dreamed up a meme called Sunday Selections.

A place where those who were willing could put up photos they wanted to share, new, old, good, bad or indifferent, any photos you please.

Nothing rude or vulgar though.

And we don't mind at all if other bloggers care to join us.

In memory of Elephant's Child, the meme is now continued by myself and a few others. Andrew is one.  Messymimi is another. Drop in to their blogs and have a look.

Wisewebwoman has also been joining us occasionally.

I had to buy a new jar of pickles recently, this is my favourite brand and I almost always buy the baby ones because the bigger pickles are sold out when I get there.

the label is nice too, with the cucumbers on the vine

you'll never guess what I was making here, no, not soup...

pasties! with premade puff pastry from a packet. They look yummy, but it turns out the premade pastry is too thick and after it puffed with the baking it was just too much pastry and too little filling. If I buy it again I will try to roll the sheets so they are thinner.

this is what my oven gloves look like these days and I frequently burn my fingers so it's time I bought new ones. I'm disappointed with the choices available though. Single colours, no patterns. Red.Black.Grey.Boring. And I want them in long length not the short ones which only cover the hand and wrist. I may have to visit a barbecue supply shop.

yummy fried up leftovers made tastier with the addition of a little curry powder, fry it in a little butter to release the fragrance before adding the leftover food.

this is my jade hedge which I am sure I have shown before, the browned tips are the dying flowers which I leave to fall off on their own after discovering they are quite prickly.

a neighbour-across-the-street has made a pretty design in the garden.

full-blown prettiness is everywhere right now

this is how some people fill their rubbish bins, I guess they've never heard of breakdown or crushing. A strong wind would have that blown all over the road and footpath.

this is from "no-one", a weird looking machine doing some kind of work along South Road which is a VERY long road badly in need of upgrading, hence the machine and an assortment of other machinery, including a tunnel borer to create tunnels of course so the road can have underpasses and over passes and hopefully free-flowing traffic once it is all finished.

Also from "no-one", her pear tree, covered in blossoms

and in baby pears.

Halloween doughnuts at Krispy Kreme, sadly not destined for my kitchen, "no-one" bought them and took them to work.

here is my own little Halloween display here at home,

sadly, the witch couldn't kmake it, she's flying around in the bedroom looking for the way out. I have more witches, bats and cats too, but can't quite remember where I stashed them.

the redheads are excited to have new beds and are measuring to make sure I stitch the correct size mattresses and covers

Riley checks with Jordan, "is the fit good?  are you comfortable?" Jordan: "yes and it will be even better with a mattress and a pillow, and a blanket or cover."

I think I will paint the "beds" too, but not black, I'll have to buy new paint.

  1. I love the jade hedge. I wish I could plant our jade outside; it would probably look much healthier and happier than it does indoors!

    1. Steve Reed; Jade is a hot and dry environment plant, if you can find a sunny sheltered spot for the summer months it might do better, perhaps near a wall that absorbs summer heat?

  2. I like the orphans' beds. You're wise not to paint them black!
Reading your comment above about jade plants, I think I'll move ours into the conservatory. It's a bit dark in the kitchen!

    1. jabblog; I'm thinking bright colours for the beds, purple and blue, a certain shade of pink. I think your jade will appreciate the move.

    1. Plasman; I tend to ignore Halloween AND doughnuts, I already have far too much sugar in my life.

  4. I love baby dill pickles! They have a nice crunch. The "ghost" donut made me laugh, because it had an expressive "face." Oh my goodness, the BEDS! I hope they rest peacefully.

    1. Val; they do have a nice crunch. The dolls are always peaceful, "we are plastic, so worldly things don't affect us". The ghost doughtnut looks like he saw a ghost.

  5. A wonderful post. I had so many cucumbers from my garden this year that I canned dills, sweet, bread n butter, brown sugar, and two kinds of relish. Your photos are fabulous especially the Halloween images. Have a nice day.

    1. DVArtist; Thank you. I have never successfully grown cucumbers in any garden I have had and where I am now I can't grow anything but succulents and weeds. So I buy my pickles.

  6. Great post, dear friend, and your photos are lovely! Although I don't participate in Halloween activities, I don't mind seeing the decorations at all! I love Autumn. I live in a 6th floor apartment where the building is predominantly seniors and disabled folk, so of course nobody comes here trick or treating. It is also a secure building.
Thank you so much for sharing!

    1. Linda's Relaxing Lair; thank you. I don't participate either and not many out here do, so I'm happy when I see decorations while out walking. Not having trick-or-treaters means you don't have to spend money on candy supplies, so that's a plus for you.

  7. I buy a lot of pears but I would not be able to guess what your baby pears are going to grow into. I wonder if I could grow my own pears here in Melbourne.

    1. hels; perhaps you could google or contact a local nursery and find out if any pears will grow in Melbourne and what kind. The baby pears shown here are "no-one's" and I don't remember what type they are.

    2. hels; "no-one" tells me it is a double grafted tree with both Packham and Williams pears.

  8. I'm going to be in one of those beds soon enough.

    1. Mike; define "soon enough." Are you planning on next week? Next year? Next decade? Hang in there and defy the fates!

  9. Pickles and donuts in the same post, as well as colorful gardens and very unique "beds." I do like your selections this week!

  10. Love pickled gherkins we buy Spring Gully brand. Those gloves, well they certainly have seen a lot of cooking R. Those coffins, saw them for sale the other day...you have a very varied selection.

    1. Margaret D; my earlier comment has gone missing, maybe I forgot to press "publish". Anyway, I also buy the Spring Gully brand for gherkins and for theSweet Mustard Pickles which are nice on sandwiches with cold roast beef. Those gloves have seen about twenty years of baking, way past time to look for new ones. The coffins are at K-Mart.
