Wednesday's Words on a Friday

this herring fishing boat also fits with Charlotte's colour of the month Pumpkin Orange

The original Words for Wednesday was begun by Delores and eventually taken over by a moveable feast of participants when Delores had computer troubles. Sadly, Delores has now closed her blog forever due to other problems.

The aim of the words is to encourage us to write. A story, a poem, whatever comes to mind.

If you are posting an entry on your own blog, please let us know so we can come along to read it and add a few encouraging words.

This month the words/prompts are supplied by Sean Jeating and can be found here

This week's words/prompts are:

1.instruction  2.stupidity  3.ignorant  4.disregards  5.joined

 and/or:

1.shy  2.not  3.means  4.from  5.destruction

Here is my story, a further chapter in Jim's Shipwreck

After dessert and coffees, Russell and his crew started walking back down the mountain, when halfway there Sunny suddenly lunged against her leash and began growling. Theo stopped and tried to calm her, but she insisted on running towards the restricted area. As they got closer Russell noticed torches and a man with a huge camera mounted on his shoulder.

“Honestly! Those damn reporters have no respect at all do they!” he said. Theo said “the stupidity of ignorant people never ceases to amaze me, watch that idiot, he looks, then completely disregards the sign with the clear instruction to stay behind the fencing. He has no idea of the destruction he could cause!”

Russell yelled, “Oi! You with the camera! Do you not understand what the sign means? Get away from there!” The one carrying two torches joined the cameraman. “We’re not harming anything, just want a couple of shots for our editor.”

“It’s delicate ground!” shouted Russell. "A boy just walking along fell into the cave just from the earth collapsing under him!” “You could suffer the same fate,” said Theo, keeping a tight hold on Sunny’s leash. “Tell your Editor to come and see me himself during daylight hours. I’ll tell him when he can send reporters and cameramen. Unless he’s too shy to show his own face!”

  1. Reporters seem to be the same everywhere.

    1. Objection! I may be a (journalistic) fossil, but I've adhered to the "press code" my entire journalistic career. Consider me an exception to what you think is the rule. ;-)

    2. Charlotte; in movies for sure they always turn up when and where they shouldn't.
Sean Jeating; I did not know you were a journalist and am pleased to learn you obeyed the rules.

  2. There could be a tragedy in the making. People are so foolish.

    1. jabblog; there certainly could be another tragedy, nobody knows how safe or unsafe the surface soil is now, since Jim fell through.

  3. Your 'damn reporters stupidity' reminds me of this little gem: "Three months ago I did not know how to spell schournalisst, and today I am already one."

    1. Sean Jeating; i have never heard that little gem. I've based "my" reporters on those I've seen in movies and read about in books, always wanting to be the first with a "scoop" and disregarding safety measures in hopes of getting one.

  4. I am so with you, River, and the "Oi!" Sure made me laugh. When was it, January 2017? Sami, your pirate bear Cookie deliverer, had reserved best places at Swan River for Australia Day!
Ingo filmed people shouting "Aussie, Aussie - oi-oi-oi!!!"
On the site... Yah-yah, nor harming....
Great ending, too! Very well written, which is no surprise :-)

    1. Iris; I thought the "Oi" was appropriate, it seems much better than "hey, you there!" Not too many people say "Aussie Aussie Aussie Oi Oi Oi" these days and I miss our "Australian-ness" which is disappearing as American idioms take over. I have a few ideas swirling around in my head about what happens next.

  5. Love your Oi! Let's hope those two don't disappear. Good use of the words, R.

    1. Margaret D; I'm a big fan of Oi!, It shows annoyance without being overly rude. Those two go back to their vehicles safely.

  6. Suposo que hi ha de tot, n'hi ha que respecten i n'hi ha que no coneixen aquesta paraula. ;-)
Molt bon ús de les paraules.

    1. sa lluna; thnak you. I have found in books and movies more than a few reporters are like ths in their hopes of being "first" to get the story in the papers.

  7. I'm glad the intruders got a good telling-off! Some people have no respect for rules, or private property.

    1. Val; I have found that's the way with reporters sniffing around for a good story, in movies and books at least. I wouldn't know about real life.

  8. Hello, River: I note your comment on Margaret’s blog and would be happy to contribute the words for a month. I have no preference for a particular month. Feel free to slot me in wherever it works best for you.

  9. Nice use of the prompts. I'm all for people getting information, but if the area is not safe, don't go in it.
