Sunday Selections #781
Long ago, Kim of Frog Ponds Rock, (who no longer blogs), dreamed up a meme called Sunday Selections.
A place where those who were willing could put up photos they wanted to share, new, old, good, bad or indifferent, any photos you please.
Nothing rude or vulgar though.
And we don't mind at all if other bloggers care to join us.
In memory of Elephant's Child, the meme is now continued by myself and a few others. Andrew is one. Messymimi is another. Drop in to their blogs and have a look.
Wisewebwoman has also been joining us occasionally.
This is what you do
when you can't afford to holiday at a real rainforest resort
this is the new(ish) Airport sign at the corner of Sir Donald Bradman Drive and Williams Avenue/Airport Road so that people will know to turn left if they want to fly away.
The big yellow building in the bottom left corner is Ikea, where I bought the green towels to go with the rainforest shower curtain. It took almost a week for me to not be shocked by all the green whenever I walked into the bathroom.
Ikea has a big new square entrance with sliding doors on bothe sides, much more efficient than the orginal small round entrance
but the opening times have changed, they used to open at 9am, now it is 10am and as I waited, hoping I didn't look too scruffy, many others arrived to wait and some were far scruffier than I was, so I didn't feel so bad about my old and unironed clothes.
Public Holiday opening times are also later than originally.
this native hibiscus was heavily trimmed several years ago and took a long time to grow back to where it once again hung over the tall fence
I love the large leaves which are purple on the underside
The flowers resemble bells when they first open
and are sometimes tricoloured with pinks and orange with the yellow, this particular tree has only the yellow, though the fallen blossoms are orange
This is a row of crepe myrtles alongside the carpark and driveway at the local Woolies shopping centre. I wonder if the planter realises just how large these trees can become?
not a single petal left on this rosebush
and the rosehips are small and orange
Ever noticed how many popcorn pieces look like brains?
this one could be a dress, you see the shoulder straps? and the scrunched up skirt section?
others are just weird.
here's Lola making sure I don't download any scams or viruses
Here is something I hate hate hate. Not the $5, I love money, but I hate bent corners, Our notes are plasticised and bent corners are not as easily straightened as the original paper versions.
"no-one" saw this lovely glow coming through her front door windows
so she opened her dor to see this fiery sunset and a bit later,
a rainbow in her back yard.
Two fat tyres parked across the driveway and no vehicle in sight. They disappeared soon after.
The redheads decided no clothes is the best way to get through the heat.
Finishing with this month's Calendar Page:
and the drawings:

I love your green bathroom - it's lush.
ReplyDeleteHow have you got time to photograph popcorn? Mine makes the journey from packet to mouth very speedily!
jabblog; I spilled some of the popcorn and noticed the shapes so I took photos. The green is very tropical.
DeleteAgree with Jabblog- lovely green!
ReplyDeleteLinda Sue; I had the sugar skulls shower curtain and blue towels so long the green was a real shock the morning after I put it up. I do love the rainforest curtain though.
DeleteI love your beautiful green rainforest shower curtain and matching green towels! And I hate folded up money too -- our Canadian bills are plasticized like yours and have remarkably similar security features on them too, it appears.
ReplyDeleteDebra She Who Seeks; thank you. I remember getting several notes with folded corners and putting them between the pages of a very heavy book for several months and they were straight after that. The one advantage is that plasticised notes don't tear easily.
DeleteI do love your shower curtain and green towels. Very nice indeed. I also want to know how you photograph popcorn. LOL but you are right they look like brains. Have a very nice day today.
ReplyDeleteDVArtist; I photographed the popcorn with my phone, every time I spill some I notice the weird shapes. I love the shower curtain too and think I may invest in a few other designs and have seasonal changes.
DeleteI love No-one's front windows! And I like your green bathroom, too. Yeah, crape myrtles are not small trees.
ReplyDeleteSteve Reed; I love her windows too, I used to live there years ago and often saw such sunsets myself. Sometimes I am tempted to sit in the bathroom and just read a book with apple juice in a fancy glass and tell myself I am on holiday in north Queensland. There are Crepe Myrtles here in the complex grounds and they tower over me. Those will be a problem in the carpark areas in years to come.
DeleteI grew up with crepe myrtles in the front yard - with my Dad's pruning they can be kept back to a decent size but whoever planted those in your picture did so without the benefit of forethought - their flowers are a pain on damp cars too.
DeleteI can't believe how late some shops think its okay to open - I work full-time and wish a few would open before I start at 8:30 on occasion.
I love your green bathroom and the fact you delight in the small stuff that can be overlooked by many. You lifted my day.

WWW
Wisewebwoman; thank you. Small stuff is often more interesting than we think, it just depends on how we see it.
DeleteGreen is my favorite color, so love your shower curtain. You'd really have to adjust to our master bathroom, which has green ceramic tiles for the flooring. No-one's pictures are beautiful. The redheads are all ready for skinny-dipping! Just add a little pool.
ReplyDeleteVal; green is just one of my favourite colours. I would love to see your green ceramic tiles. The redheads would love a pool and I am looking around for a blue bowl/tub large enough to fit them all in but they seem to be hard to find. Round, square, oblong, all are eluding me. I may have to buy a cheap white one and paint it. With waterproof paint of course.
DeleteI need to get some crepe myrtles for my backyard.
ReplyDeleteMike; they are lovely trees, but check first if they will thrive in your area. They come in white, pink, darker pink and a newer variety in red which is a little smaller than the pink/white varieties.
DeleteThat's my least favourite pink crepe myrtle. I think they'll be ok with the lower branches removed as they grow.
ReplyDeleteYes, very definitely a green bathroom.
You need to nude up to keep company with the girls.
Great photos by "no-one".
I've flattened out polymer notes by putting the under the mouse mat. A book might be better but could be forgotten about it.
It's good to have Lola on duty at your laptop, as long as she doesn't walk across the keyboard.
Andrew; but will the trees get trimmed before they do any damage? I usually write myself a note if I have notes being straightened in books. Lola never touches the keyboard, thank goodness. She just likes to be close to me. I will NOT be nuding up to keep company with the redheads.
DeleteI rather like your green bathroom.
ReplyDeleteOur notes in the UK are also plasticised.
Have a good new month of March.
All the best Jan
Lowcard team member; thank you, I like it too. I wonder how many other countries have plasticised notes? March is a busy birthday month with six cards to be sent out.
DeleteHuh, "you"´re in the news, hope you are NOT really "drifting through life"...
ReplyDeleteLove your rainforest resort! And IKEA... everytime I go to the city, I drive by...
Interesting with the purple leaves!
Oh, yes, must buy butter-popcorn to take home, we don´t have that - or I never saw it. Hope my brain remembers!
And Lola... awww.
We adore your plastic and safe money! The EU did not follow you but invented crap.
Rainbow! Heat?! 17C in the cabin, I sit with a jumper... Hello beautiful March!
Iris; in the news? Would that be the flooding I saw on TV? It didn't happen in Adelaide, we didn't even get the storm we were expecting, just some easy rain. The Lola photo is from last winter when she snuggled close to me all the time to keep warm. At 17C I would be wearing jumpers and other warm things too!
DeleteI see the airport chaos on the news with many people stranded unable to get home or come home because of the bombing in Iran and hope you and Ingo are still able to go home on EWednesday. I heard Qantas is still flying to Singapore and London so I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. 🤞 Don't forget the butter popcorn.
Your green bathroom does look good, R. The shower curtain is looking good.
ReplyDeleteCertainly a fiery sunset there similar to mine the other day.
Lots of variety this Sunday too.
Margaret D; thank you. I'm looking forward to more fiery sunsets as autumn creeps nearer. I try to keep my pictures varied for interest.
DeleteRedhead dolls are sooo appealing!
ReplyDeleteRedhead husbands are even cuter :)
Hels; the dolls are appealing and fun to dress and set up when I'm in the mood. I don't know about redheaded husbands, I never had one. My younger son is gingery with a ginger beard but was born blonde.
DeleteOur bank notes used to be made of paper but we've woken up over here and they are now similar to those I encountered in Australia. It's a good job because when I was Down Under, I walked into a swimming pool with my wallet in my swimshorts. It didn't take long for Aussie banknotes to dry.
ReplyDelete:o)
Cheers
PM
Plasman; I hope other things in your wallet didn't get water damaged.
DeleteWow!!! I absolutely love the green, tropical feel of your bathroom!!! Of course I love the cat as well. :)
ReplyDeleteLinda's Relaxing Lair; thank you. I am used to the green now, but will change it eventually. Lola says thank you.
DeleteNever seen a jungle curtain before. Needs a plant. I like it. Very well behaved Kitty assistant.
ReplyDeleteCodex; I can't have indoor plants because of allergies, so this is the next best thing. Lola is usually well behaved but she has her moments.
DeleteYour bathroom looks beautiful and I really enjoyed the selections, including the popcorn dress (yes, I saw it). As for the crepe myrtle, they do come in varieties and some do not grow as tall as others, plus they need trimming and can be kept smallish.
ReplyDeletemessymimi; thank you, I wonder how many other things I can see in popcorn. I know crepe myrtles come in differing sizes, but will local council look after these properly or will they wait to trim them after someone has complained of damage to their car? Our local councils are VERY slack, unless they are chasing you for money, then it's like they're at the races.
DeleteI love an evocative shower curtain! I have a glass door so there are no fun curtains for me.
ReplyDeletePretty skies through a pretty set of windows.
If you set up enough interesting doll scenarios, you could have a popular Instagram account. Or maybe you already do!
There's a lot to enjoy in this post. Thank you
kylie; I thought about glass doors and whether or not I would hang a curtain if I had one and I think I still might, but somewhere else in the room."no-one" loves her front door windows.
DeleteNo Instagram for me, too much work involved and I don't need that. I don't do any social media apart from this blog, real life is enough for me.
Ha! Ha! That shower curtain. Very funny.
ReplyDeleteThe Happy Whisk; I can be in there and pretend I am in a rainforest resort for a few minutes.
DeleteYour green look is very nice. Changing colours on a place like this can take some getting used to:) I saw a rabbit, not a dress in that popcorn.
ReplyDeleteThanks for this peek into your live.
