Sunday Selections #783
Long ago, Kim of Frog Ponds Rock, (who no longer blogs), dreamed up a meme called Sunday Selections.
A place where those who were willing could put up photos they wanted to share, new, old, good, bad or indifferent, any photos you please.
Nothing rude or vulgar though.
And we don't mind at all if other bloggers care to join us.
In memory of Elephant's Child, the meme is now continued by myself and a few others. Andrew is one. Messymimi is another. Drop in to their blogs and have a look.
Wisewebwoman has also been joining us occasionally.
discussing the merits of having a mural inside the room
the handmade dish that holds my keys almost fits Charlotte's colour of the month, Ocean Twilight.
but the stripes on the matching mug, also hand made, are a closer match
don't you agree?
while this section of ocean is probably the best match. That's the northern coast of Australia, don't remember exactly where, either Northern Territory or Western Australia. My brother was working there, helping to build the concrete structures.
here is one of several small matchbox cars I keep for a certain small boy to play with when he visits
and another one
and a third one
this next one
is a train, this one you pull backwards a bit then let it go and it runs forward on its own for a bit and is quite tiny at 2 inches long and 2 inches high
"no-one" has two teeny tiny pumpkins beginning to grow
This brand of mayonnaise used to be made in Germany, in smaller jars of a nicer shape with yellow lids, and again an even smaller size perfect for one person.
Now it is made in Serbia, still a good mayonnaise,
but this giant 611gram is the only size available and is far too much for someone who doesn't slather mayonnaise on everything she eats.
this mural in Fremantle was sent to me by my brother who lives there
and this one too, pretty good aren't they?

Charming photos -- I enjoyed looking at each one. And we need MORE cats on murals!
ReplyDeleteDebra She Who Seeks; I agree we need more murals, some with cats, others with other things, but plenty more murals.
DeleteThe redheads have a nice little hangout. I like the matchbox cars. When I was a kid, that was my treat when my mom went to Woolworth's, the dime store on Main Street. I had a whole collection of Matchbox and Hot Wheels cars. The Hot Wheels were heavier metal, and ran better on our bright orange racing track. Matchbox had more variety. My favorite was a truck with a camper on it, and it could pull a little boat on a trailer. We have a mural on Main Street depicting the lead mining history of our town. The artist was good with the implements and machinery, but not so great with the face of the miner.
ReplyDeleteVal; I remember when Woolworths was a cheap variety store back in the 60s. I also remember the Hot Wheels cars and tracks, my sons had a few cars and one track, they weren't much interested in them. I'd like to see that mural if you can get a picture.
DeleteHi River. I'm digging the design on the one car. Very cool stuff. Great on the mayo. Have you ever made your own?
ReplyDeleteThe Happy Whisk; I have never made my own mayo, doesn't seem like it would be worth the trouble when I use so little of it. I love that particular car's design too.
DeleteIt's actually one of the easiest things to whip up. Though you may not eat it all in time and at least the jar one has stuff in it to make it last longer.
DeleteIt's amazing to me on the giant wall art how the painters keep their perspective.
ReplyDeleteMike; I think they map it out in squares and follow a computer diagram. I am impressed with it all, but more impressed by older murals from the days before computers.
DeleteI like the murals. I like the pottery, too - it's nice to have something unique.
ReplyDeletei hope the little pumpkins develop, though they do look very cute.
jabblog; the pottery was a gift, made by Kim (formerly known as frogpondsrock) who started this particular meme all those years ago. The pumpkins are a mini variety to be used for stuffing and baking.
DeleteThat is an interesting street in Fremantle and the cat mural fits in well. We don't see many streets like that in Australian cities.
ReplyDeletehels; no ,we don't see many streets like that and that's a shame, we need more "life" in our cities.
DeleteThey are very large murals. Nice.
ReplyDeleteThe mayo label says, 'Serbia, Europe', not to be confused with the other Serbia in ???
You have many keys.
Andrew; I like large murals, they're easier to spot when looking for camera fodder. Ha Ha, about Serbia. I checked my big atlas in case there are other Serbias, maybe towns or cities, but there is only the one. I don't think I have too many keys, though it looks a lot in the photo, door keys, mailbox key, shed key, there are only 5 in the bowl, perhaps the key rings make it look like more.
DeleteA very nice post. The murals are fabulous. Mayonnaise has become so expensive here in the US. I sometimes make my own. I do grow pumpkins but not this time of year. These are great. My favorite car is the one with the skulls, and I love the ceramics.
ReplyDeleteDVArtist; thank you. I have the idea that Americans use a lot of mayonnaise, so I am sorry to hear it has become so expensive. I have never been able to grow pumpkins and have now given up trying. My favourite car is also the one with the skulls and the ceramics are a much loved gift.
DeleteI like the handmade dish that holds your keys ... I have one in the shape of an owl, I spotted it in a charity shop and couldn't resist coming home with it :)
ReplyDeleteI do like the murals you've shared.
Enjoy what's left of your weekend and have a good week.
All the best Jan
Lowcarb team member; thank you, I love my "keys" dish too, and the murals.
DeleteI enjoyed your selections very much. Those cars/trucks are such fun for the children, although now they’re made so badly they break too soon.
ReplyDeletemessymimi; I agree most things these days break far too soon, cheap production is rife. These particular cars and the small train are quite old and sturdy.
DeleteBeautiful photos and lovely murals.
ReplyDeleteLinda's Relaxing Lair; thank you.
DeleteThe cat mural fits in. They are made on grids and enlarged. Almost a paint by numbers.
ReplyDeleteMayo we use so little it goes bad before we are half way through. Some Americans use a lot tuna sandwiches coleslaw but it's less popular. Something utterly gross; Fluff. I'd rather eat Marmite.
Thank you for your comment. Think I'll do a writing prompt
If you want to participate.
Codex; I've heard of Fluff and don't think I'd like it, I've heard of fluffer-nutter sandwiches which is the fluff paired with peanut butter and sounds terrible. I don't like Marmite either, preferring the Australian Vegemite.
DeleteTo murals, Redheads! And handmade pottery. And your Brother, wow. He sure did great jobs!
ReplyDeleteCutie-creepy first car... and a train, yippee... And yes, Thomy?! Made in Serbia, oh. Well, we are one world!
Ummm... not to brag... Sami went to Freo with me to that Quaokka-mural and.. we met the artist! Sadly he was in a hectic mood.
And... btw.. Pi-Day... I marked the date in the calendar you sent me!!! What a surprise-post!
Iris; you were on holiday, bragging is allowed. I liked the Thomy better when it was made in Germany and in smaller jars. This bigger one will probably go bad before I get halfway.
DeleteI love those murals, they are really good, makes you stop and looked at them in detail.
ReplyDeleteThe cars are good, used to have heaps once. That's the problem when you eat something you like and it doesn't come in a small jar, smaller is often more expensive though. I do like you mug and handmade dish, so pretty R.
Margaret D; I like murals that make you stop and study them, you look for details and take it all in. I never had heaps of small cars, just these few, but I do know a certain little boys who has plenty of "wheels" of all kinds, especially construction vehicles. He loves those best. The handmade dishes are a cherished gift.
DeleteThe little cars made me smile --my boys had a huge collection of Matchbox cars when they were little, so that brought back memories. And those tiny pumpkins are adorable, hope they keep growing!
ReplyDeleteVeronica Lee; my boys didn't have much interest in matchbox cars, which was handy because we had very little money. They had a slot car set and legos plus outdoor toys.
DeleteFirst car is cool.
ReplyDeleteHaven't have mayo in years. We always get Miracle Whip Light.
Alex J.Cavanaugh; thank you, I do like the first car best.
DeleteHow funny that you buy Serbian mayonnaise! Isn't globalization weird? Is there no good Australian mayonnaise?
ReplyDeleteLove the murals!
