Wednesday's Words on a Friday

The original Words for Wednesday was begun by Delores and eventually taken over by a moveable feast of participants when Delores had computer troubles. Sadly, Delores has now closed her blog forever due to other problems.

The aim of the words is to encourage us to write. A story, a poem, whatever comes to mind.

If you are posting an entry on your own blog, please let us know so we can come along to read it and add a few encouraging words.

This month the words/prompts are supplied by messymimi and can be found on her blog as well as here on mine

This week's words/prompts are:

1.mood  2.peanut  3.weakness  4.novel  5.ride  6.jump

and/or:

1.asunder (to tear apart)  2.nary (none)  3.rantipole (rude)

Charlotte's colour of the month is Steel Blue.

Here is my story:

The mood in the meeting chamber was electric with fear, many who gathered worried their homes and lifestyle would be torn asunder. Others urged everyone to just wait and see, things might not be so bad.

Gnomeric, chief of the underworld, thumped his walking staff heavily to gain attention. "It's true," he said, once everyone had turned to face him, "nary a soul has disturbed our way of life these last dozen years. But now a huge truck has appeared and humans are delivering furniture and many boxes of goods into the old house."

Some of the more timid elves and fairies began wringing their hands, a few "woe is us" mutterings being whispered. Marigold and Petunia, who had been keeping watch from an old forgotten Fairy House, now came running through the hall into the chamber.

"There is a family with children! and they have a dog! we heard the boys calling to him, his name is Peanut!" Fully a score of Brownies instantly made plans to leave the garden and retreat to the wooded forest behind the concrete fence. "We'll have to leave after dark so as not to be seen," said Leroy.

"Well I don't want to 'jump ship'," said Flynn, a younger Brownie who had become very friendly with several of the elves and fairies. Crystal, the palest of the fairies, said "it might be novel having someone new around, though they are human, the young ones often believe in us and have a weakness for things like fairy rings and tiny trinkets left for them to find."

"Hmpf," grumbled Leroy. "We are all going to have to be extra careful anyway because of the dog, until we can see what he is like." Robbo, one of the gnomes, said "if he is amenable we could use him to ride across the garden on our foraging excursions, it would be far faster than hiking for a couple of days each way."

Marigold added, "two of the children are girls and quite small, we could show ourselves like we did when the other family lived here so long ago." "But only when they are outside alone," said Jethro, another gnome.
