Wednesday's Words on a Friday

The original Words for Wednesday was begun by Delores and eventually taken over by a moveable feast of participants when Delores had computer troubles.

The aim of the words is to encourage us to write; a story, a poem, whatever comes to mind.
If you are posting an entry on your own blog, please let us know so we can come along and read it.

This month the words were to be supplied by Vest, but he is currently unable so Elephant's Child is filling in and the words can be found here.

This week's words are:

1. protest
2. burden
3. pattern
4. reckless
5. hopscotch
6. camel

and/or:

1. crown
2. locust
3. blast
4. first
5. grabbing
6. old

Here is my story:

"I protest!" I shouted, jumping up from my chair.
"The word is object, you doofus," Mae said. "And this isn't a trial, so sit down."
I sat down, muttering, "well who gave you the crown Miss Queen."

She reached across the table and grabbing a fistful of my camel hair coat, asked, "feeling reckless are you, Eddie? Challenging my leadership are you? Eddie?"

I first removed her hands, then stuck my tongue out at her, before turning away in a pretend huff.  "Makes no difference to me anyway," I said. "It's just a bunch of old tables and chairs. Paint them in hopscotch patterns for all I care."
"You child, you are such a burden," Mae said from the lofty height of her fourteen years to my thirteen and ten months.

The rest of our group burst into the room like a locust swarm, bearing brushes and buckets of paint.
"Let's get started!" Jim yelled, a wide and goofy grin on his face. "This is going to be such a blast!"

  1. Nothing like a committee to get the blood boiling. Great use of the words.

    1. only slightly confused; thank you. I'm not a fan of committees myself, they tend to cast votes in favour of those who aren't there. like the time i was elected secretary because no one else wanted the spot and I was away that day :(

    1. Granny Annie; thank you. I don't know how it got in my mind, but I know it flowed out easily. These are school kids, and schools here have hopscotch games painted in the yards.
