mooning about..

my daughter K is doing an early shift at work, a very early shift, and on her way to the bus she noticed the full moon and sent me this photo from her phone:

Full moon, taken at 4am, Monday August 3rd 2020

I don't envy her the early start, I did my share of 4am walks to get to work, but I do envy the photo. I have never been able to get a decent full moon photo.

  1. Not bad. The only good moon shot I ever really managed was with the camera on a little tripod sitting on stack of books on the balcony table.

  2. Andrew; I was thinking of getting a tripod, but lately I haven't been taking the camera anywhere, and barely getting out myself.

  3. Moon shot aren't easy as we age holding a camera still can be a problem.

  5. That is a beauty - and yes moon shots are among the most difficult I find.
We had heavy fog here again or I would have been out trying (again) to capture the beauty. Thank you and K.

    1. Elephant's Child; I think those were clouds up there, but it was also a bit foggy at ground level I heard, though maybe not in her suburb.

  6. I'm glad my early starts are no longer...and haven't been for a long time now. And I'm glad my late finishes are no longer, too.

Early to bed and late to rise is my motto these days....and I ain't complain'! :)

My poor little camera has no idea what it is...it's so long since I've used it.

    K's photo is lovely. :)

    1. Lee; I enjoyed my early starts when I did them, but these days I'm rarely out of bed before 8am and I often watch TV until 11pm or midnight.

    1. Iris Flavia; I don't miss being out early, I'd rather stay in bed. I spent years getting up at 4am so I'd be at work on time, I didn't mind then, but now I'd rather sleep. It's different in summer when the mornings are warmer.

  8. That shot is rather nice, shows the bright moon and the clouds that surround it.
Taking the moon is not always easy, have a couple of ok ones taken a few years, used a tripod and zoom on my camera..
    Take care.

    1. Margaret D; K does take good photos. My moon shots are all a white dot in a black sky.

  9. Just being awake to get a moon shot impresses me. Nicely done.

  10. I love this photo. It took my mind straight to fall weather. It looks like a Halloween moon and after these triple digits with our heat I wish it was Halloween! - On a more serious note, I hope your daughter has a companion to walk with or a weapon to carry, maybe a can of mace. Sorry. That's me paranoid mom. - Also. That really is a good shot with a phone. :)

    1. MMM; it looks like a good book cover for a ghost story, set around Halloween would be great too. Daughter lives in a safe area and only a few dozen steps to the bus stop. Her heavy backpack would be a good weapon, one swing and an assailant would be out cold.

  11. Very nice! Although i am up early, sometimes as early as 4am, i am glad not to have to leave the house that early except when we want to get an early start on out of town travel, which is very rare.

    1. messymimi; the only reason I'm out of bed at that hour is to feed Lola, then I get right back under the warm covers.

  12. It's lovely; thanks for sharing. I saw the same moon, but only caught half of it.
