Wednesday's Words on a Friday
The original Words for Wednesday was begun by Delores and eventually taken over by a moveable feast of participants when Delores had computer troubles. Sadly, Delores has now closed her blog forever due to other problems.
The aim of the words is to encourage us to write. A story, a poem, whatever comes to mind.
If you are posting an entry on your own blog, please let us know so we can come along to read it and add a few encouraging words.
This month the words/prompts are supplied by Margaret Adamson and Sue Fulcher and can be found here
This week's words/prompts are:
1. memorialise
2. terpsichorean
3. flotation
4. gusto
5. obnoxious
6. phlegmatic
and/or:
1. philately
2. swaddle
3. voice
4. voluptuous
5. yolk
6. appraise.
Here is my story:
Nanna settled her
voluptuous curves into a comfortable chair and looked around to appraise the
new kitchen wall colours. “Very nice dear,” she said to Phyllis, “what made you
choose this shade?”
“Well I wanted yellow,
but not egg-yolk yellow and not a pale or a golden shade, so the ochre seemed
the best choice,” said Phyllis.
Anne came rushing in
from her swim lesson, leaving her flotation aid in the pool and rushed to hug
her Nanna. “You made it! Did Grandpa come too?” “No sweetheart, his rheumatism
is acting up again and he thinks sitting in a park at night won’t be good for
him.”
“He’ll miss it then,
you’ll have to remember every little bit to tell him tomorrow,” said Anne. “Who
will miss what?” said Daniel, tucking into a plate of heavily buttered toast with
gusto and managing to spread crumbs all over the table.
“The Twilight
Terpsichoreans,” said Anne, “we’re all going, remember?”
“Right,” said Daniel, “that 'Ballet in the Park at Dusk' thing, well, I’m not going, I’m meeting Harry at the
cinema, we’re going to see the new Star Trek movie.” “Harry is an obnoxious
twit,” said Anne in her haughtiest voice. “Will Daddy be coming?”
“Yes dear,” said
Phyllis, “he said the meeting at the Philately Club will be over by then and he
will meet us there. Now go and get dried and changed before you drip any more
pool water over Nanna’s new shoes.”
That's a lovely family scene. Poor Grandpa, though, having to miss it, i hope Nanna remembers every detail to tell him.
ReplyDeletemessymimi; thank you. Even if Nanna forgets some, Anne will tell him all of it next time he visits.
DeleteEchoing messymimi. And yes, I do hope that Nanna shares every little detail when she gets home.
ReplyDeleteElephant's Child; thank you, Nanna does have a good memory, but if she forgets a bit, Anne and Phyllis can fill in the blanks.
DeleteA new take on the prompts. I'd like to see the Twilight Terpsichoreans, it sounds delightful
ReplyDeleteCharlotte; thank you; A fairytale ballet with soft light and starlight above sounds perfect.
DeleteI´d pick the Star Trek movie for sure... though, hmmm. NO! I could not decide, Ballet at dusk in a park? Star Trek you can have anytime. The Ballet it would be!
ReplyDeleteWonderful story, you have me smiling big.
Iris Flavia; thank you. I'd pick the ballet too, because Star Trek will be on again and again, but the ballet won't be.
DeleteOk had to look up Terpsichoreans. You handled that nicely. Sorry about Grandpa but I'm sure Grandma will give him a blow by blow account.
ReplyDeleteArkansas Patti; thank you. Grandpa gets the full story eventually, mostly from Nanna.
DeleteWell done River..
ReplyDeleteMargaret D; thank you.
DeleteI would have had to check these words in a dictionary before starting my story. Terpsichorean? What is that?
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Victor SE Moubarak; a terpsichorean is a dancer.
DeleteIt's a nice, quiet scene but I wonder if they are in the kitchen or in a dinning room that looks toward the kitchen. You are good with using the words/prompts. Every word works well with the story.
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely day.
lissa; thank you. They are in the kitchen which has a small sitting area off to one side with comfortable chairs and a fireplace.
DeleteEgg yolk yellow sound pretty.
ReplyDeleteCoffee is on and stay safe
Dora; I think egg-yolk yellow is too bright, but it depends on the other furnishings.
DeleteI would keep my rheumatism home from both the park AND the movie, but I'd be happy to listen to every detail of each later, while having some more buttered toast.
ReplyDeleteVal; Grandpa has the rheumatism and is staying home, brother David is seeing the movie with his friend Harry. Buttered toast sounds great.
