Sunday Selections #624
Long ago, Kim of Frog ponds Rock, (who no longer blogs), dreamed up a meme called Sunday Selections.
A place where those who were willing could put up photos they wanted to share, new, old, good, bad or indifferent, any photos you please.
Nothing rude or vulgar though.
And we don't mind at all if overseas bloggers care to join us.
The meme is now continued by Elephant's Child and I occasionally join in as do a few others. Andrew is one. Messymimi is another. Drop in to their blogs and have a look. I haven't linked Elephant's Child as she is taking a break.
Beginning this week with several photos from 2013 when I visited my brother in Western Australia, the first few from Hillary's Boat Harbour:
boats and clouds reflected in the water
more boats
rows of Holiday Units available for rental, I'm not sure if they still are, it has been ten years.
masts against the sky
a cormorant drying his wings in the sun
isn't he pretty!
away from Hillary's Boat Harbour, I don't recall exactly where
some lovely bronze statues, I think in the same area where Bon Scott's statue is (from Bon Jovi)
I liked this fisherman very much
"Joe's Fish Shack" looked interesting although it was closed so we didn't go in
this colourful boat sits out the front.
Back in Adelaide, just last Friday I spotted this whatever-it-is in Rundle Mall, (taken with my phone)
the logo on the circular sign says Bank SA, so something to do with banking but I can't think what.
We currently have The Fringe Festival going on here for the next two weeks, perhaps it's a reminder to use the local bank?
maybe the Bank sponsors part of the Festival? Anyway, you can't properly see the colourful parts of this feathery thing,
but the reflections on the paving below are pretty.
this is Ana, "Mum says the food is all gone but I don't believe her"
Ana again, ready for a trip to the shops, with her hat and her smile
and Gen, also ready with her hat and smile.
I like the cormorants and the bronze statues are wonderful. It's so nice to see a realistic female bronze and the fisherman is great.
ReplyDeletejabblog; the bronze statues are one of my favourite memories, there were so many of them around that area.
DeleteThose statues are made with a sense of humour, I like them very much, and those colourful reflections, and the twins, and the harbour photos - as usual I can't choose which one I like most.
ReplyDeleteCharlotte; I think the statues are very realistic and I'd like to go back one day and take more photos of the boat harbour.
DeleteI like the boats/clouds, and the Holiday Units. You compose a good picture! As for the twins, I had to back up and look again, thinking it was the same picture of one baby! They are certainly identical.
ReplyDeleteVal; thank you. I often wonder if my pictures look well composed. The babies are identical apart from weight, one is definitely heavier.
DeleteI've only visited WA once...back in early 1987...same time the America's Cup was being held. I stayed in Perth, but visited Fremantle. It was when I was managing the resort on Hinchinbrook Island and I was in Perth for a tourism conference.
ReplyDeleteThe bubbly girls bring so much joy. :)
Info re Bon Scott...QUOTE...."Ronald Belford "Bon" Scott (9 July 1946 – 19 February 1980) was an Australian singer and songwriter. He was the lead vocalist and lyricist of the hard rock band AC/DC from 1974 until his death in 1980.Born in Forfar in Angus, Scotland, Scott spent his early years in Kirriemuir. He moved to Australia with his family in 1952 at the age of six, living in Melbourne for four years before settling in Fremantle, Western Australia." End Quote
Have a good week ahead, River....try to keep cool...take care. Cuddles to the lovely Lady Lola. I hope she is okay...you've not mentioned her for a while.
Lee; AC/DC? Boy I got that wrong then didn't I? Bon Jovi is an entirely different band.
DeleteWA is a great place to visit isn't it? I've often thought I might move there if I didn't have all the kids right here in SA. Lola is doing very well, since we discovered a cure for her itching she is a much more settled cat. She's currently sleeping on my TV chair.
I'm glad Lola is doing fine, River. :)
DeleteHillary's is a lovely place and I like the look of the holiday rental properties. I have a vague memory of at least one of those statues but like you, I can't remember where they are. No way can I tell the twins apart. They stickers.
ReplyDeleteAndrew; I loved Hillary's and would like to go again one day. I remember my brother had an appointment at Subiaco and on the way back we stopped at the place where the statues are, there is a ferris wheel there too if that helps at all. Just by photos it is hard to tell the girls apart, but one is definitely heavier so I know which one I'm holding when I pick them up.
DeleteThose little girls look too much alike. What is your trick for telling them apart?
ReplyDeleteJoanne; one is heavier than the other so I know right away which one I have picked up, otherwise one has a little more hair at the back of the head, while the other crinkles her nose a little when she grins.
DeleteI like your holiday pictures from back when.
ReplyDeleteThe whatever-it-is might just be an artwork the bank sponsored, you never know.
Those girls are more precious every time you show them.
messymimi; I suspect the artwork is to do with the Fringe Festival currently going on in the parklands by the city. I spent time with the girls today they are getting more mobile by the day.
DeleteInteresting looking unit to rent.
ReplyDeleteCoffee is on and stay safe
Dora; they were holiday rental I think for a week or more at a time but I don't know if they are still there.
DeleteLove all of these photos and the best are last!
ReplyDeleteThe bronze sculptures are intriguing, unassuming life like. So refreshing to see!
Linda Sue; the best is always last. I like life like statues especially casual poses like these.
DeleteAll the photos are good to see, like the statues. Those babies are just beautiful.
ReplyDeleteMargaret D; thank you :)
DeleteOhhhh Hillarys!!!! Hope you had a licorice ice-cream and a burger from Grill´d!
ReplyDeleteWe ALWAYS have that there! Yummmmmmmmmm... (sorry, I miss it ALL so much).
Now I need to play lotto and win to be able to rent one of those houses.... (I won´t. I played once and got nothing).
Yes, the lady on the bench was there last time we went still :-)
Ohhh. Thank you so much!!! Wonderful.
The twins look so alike I´d be afraid as a mother! Oh, they will play tricks later, I bet ;-)
(Nah, they will always stay the sweetest, as my Nieces (cough-cough...)).
Iris; no licorice icecream, I went in the winter, July, and I don't remember Grill'd so I'm guessing we didn't go there. But I will next time. As a mother you would learn the tiny differences and always know which twin is which.
DeleteInteresting you just know! Well, too old now to find out about kids ;-)
DeleteWhat a joyful post! I love the sculptures, just amazing. But the littles are the best!
ReplyDeleteJenn Jilks; I love the statues too but of course the twins are always the best.
DeleteHi River, Love your photos!
ReplyDeleteI am usually a "lurker" - love reading your posts but generally don't comment.
I did a quick google search of WA bronze bikini woman and discovered the following article: https://thewest.com.au/news/fremantle/fremantles-bella-statue-returned-to-seat-at-bathers-beach-ng-b881651840z. Shame that someone stole her, but lovely that the original sculptor could and did re-create her.
I think the fisherman with his basket is in Fremantle fishing harbour.
cheers Marie Q
Unknown; welcome to drifting and thank you for the information. I like the Fisherman best and you are probably right about where he is. I was only there for a few days and my brother drove me all over so I didn't pay much attention to what was where. If I go again I hope to stay longer, but that's in the future.
DeleteUnbelievable statues. Plus unbelievable twins! So precious.
ReplyDeleteGranny Annie; thank you :)
DeleteInteresting collection of photos
ReplyDeleteashok; thank you.
