Sunday Selections #660

Image
Long ago, Kim of Frog ponds Rock, (who no longer blogs), dreamed up a meme called Sunday Selections.  A place where those who were willing could put up photos they wanted to share, new, old, good, bad or indifferent, any photos you please.  Nothing rude or vulgar though. And we don't mind at all if other bloggers care to join us. The meme is now continued by Elephant's Child and I join in as do a few others. Andrew is one.  Messymimi is another. Drop in to their blogs and have a look. Wisewebwoman had also been joining us recently. We'll begin today with an image of a partly eaten "Cherry Ripe" an Australian treat made of coconut and cherries, coated in a thin layer of dark chocolate. See that dark bit in the centre on the right? Actual piece of real cherry. They don't put in as many real cherry pieces as they used to and the chocolate was better quality years ago too, but back then it was made by MacRobertson's and now it is made by Cadbury. I bought

Wednesday's Words on a Friday

Image
The original Words for Wednesday was begun by Delores and eventually taken over by a moveable feast of participants when Delores had computer troubles. Sadly, Delores has now closed her blog forever due to other problems. The aim of the words is to encourage us to write. A story, a poem, whatever comes to mind. If you are posting an entry on your own blog, please let us know so we can come along to read it and add a few encouraging words. This month the words/prompts are supplied by Sean Jeating and can be found here This week's words/prompts are:  1. barely 2. bird 3. keep 4. simply 5. too  and/or:  1. breath 2. calm 3. silent 4. soon 5. wood also included is Charlotte's colour of the month: dahlia yellow Here is my story: Browned from the sun, wrinkled and dry from the latest drought, the old man might have been carved from the same wood as the verandah post he leaned against. The sun had set, but there was still light, plenty of it in this wide brown land. The evening w

So I went to the doctor today, Wednesday,

not because I am unwell, but I needed to hear the results of my recent blood test and bone scan. You'll all be happy to know that I am in fine health.  The blood test showed I am NOT diabetic Yay! my iron levels are excellent, D levels are excellent, kidney function is excellent.  The urine test did show a bit too much sugar, but I expected that, I still consume far too much and have to try harder at cutting back.  It's easier to cut back in summer, there's less need for warming desserts and hot chocolate drinks. Also, I confess to a recent chocolate binge, I have neighbours who buy me chocolates when I help them out and of course I eat them.  The bone scan is the one I am most happy about. There is no sign of any thinning or loss at all. No loss in height either.  The doctor said whatever I've been doing, keep on doing it. I floated out of there on cloud nine.  😀😀

who remembers paint charts?

Years ago you could walk into a hardware store and request a paint chart, a huge sheet of sturdy paper with dozens of small rectangular  chips of colour arranged in groups according to shade. Greens, blues, reds and so on.  These days you walk into a hardware store about the size of Tasmania and are confronted by a half mile of rectangular strips of colours about three inches by two inches with three different shades of any particular colour on them. And they have such fancy names. (Well, they always did, how many names are there for antique white?) There are also booklets of paint colours, but these now have only a few pages with nicely painted items or rooms and little circles of the colurs used with their names on them. "Spice of Life" (lime green), "Smiley White" (white), "Montage"  (a yellow/orange/ochre shade which looks a lot like "Apricot fizz" from a different paint company.) To find a colour you want or might want you have to find the

While in the city recently I noticed a few Christmassy things in Rundle Mall it seems they are advertising the upcoming Christmas Pageant this has never been done before (love that suit!), usually people know the pageant is coming soon  and Christmas decorations are put up in the Mall and other places after the Pageant day.  there was a twirling Christmas Tree and a little band of singers dressed appropriately singing carols. There was also a police band marchig along playing Rudolph the Red-no
