Wednesday's Words on a Friday
The original Words for Wednesday was begun by Delores and eventually taken over by a moveable feast of participants when Delores had computer troubles. Sadly, Delores has now closed her blog forever due to other problems.
The aim of the words is to encourage us to write. A story, a poem, whatever comes to mind.
If you are posting an entry on your own blog, please let us know so we can come along to read it and add a few encouraging words.
This month the words/prompts are supplied by Lissa and can be found here
This week's words/prompts are:
1. soul 2. brilliant 3. breakfast 4. winter 5. moon
also including Charlotte's colour of the month: black
Here is my story:
Watching the sun
glinting off the waves like a million brilliant diamonds had always soothed my
soul and I often sat on my porch to eat breakfast while the sun came up.
Today was very
different, it was winter and I stood on my porch at midnight, watching the moon
instead. A single silver stream cut across the black silk of the smooth water and I
lifted my camera to snap a photo.
The day itself had been
dark in spite of the winter sunshine. A small group of friends gathered around
the gravesite, each of us holding a single candle as we spoke of the year that
had gone by since we buried our best friend.
The most brilliant of
minds, destined for fame and glory, gone in a single moment from a brain
aneurysm. He wouldn’t want us to be sad and grieving too long, we all knew that, and had agreed that this one year anniversary would be the only one.
A nice ceremony for a friend.
ReplyDeletejabblog; thank you, I thought so too.
DeleteWoof! Emotion packed and well written.
ReplyDeleteCharlotte; thank you, I hope not too sad.
DeleteThey will still grieve. Excellent story.
ReplyDeletemessymimi; they will, and they will remember too to get on with their lives as he would have wanted them to. thank you.
DeleteRemembering the good times shared, throughout the year when the thought arises, is the best tribute.
ReplyDeleteVal; it really is :)
Deletesuch a wise and heartbreaking story. I'll be back.
ReplyDeleteSusan Kane; thank you.
DeleteI thought it was going to be some calm thoughts and then the mention of the friend that passed away, it became a bit sad. Good use of the prompts.
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely day.
lissa; thank you. His thoughts are calm, just remembering a sad occasion.
DeleteI also like to watch the moon.
ReplyDeleteDora; I haven't watched the moon in a long while, I am too close to the city so by the time I see it, the moon is just a tiny white circle in the sky.
DeleteThe most brilliant of minds was gone in a single moment... snapped :( But I am not sure if a slow but certain decline is much better :(
ReplyDeletehels; I wonder if going quickly might be better, but harder on those left behind, a slower death is also hard for those watching and suffering along, it's a difficult thing to think about.
DeleteA winter moon lingered until breakfast time when it faded in the brilliant sunlight. The gentle Soul smiled at the black giving way to the day. Day chasing night, and to repeat over again. Blinking the eyes, the Soul slipped away into the fading dark. Tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteSusan Kane; very nice, thank you.
