Wednesday's Words on a Friday

 

The original Words for Wednesday was begun by Delores and eventually taken over by a moveable feast of participants when Delores had computer troubles. Sadly, Delores has now closed her blog forever due to other problems.

The aim of the words is to encourage us to write. A story, a poem, whatever comes to mind.

Here is my story, minus one of the words:

Serenity Gray smiled to herself as she polished the new lectern with its marble inserts then set to work arranging the foliage for the next day’s service.  Her bridge club bake sale had raised enough money to buy new light blue robes for the junior choir boys as well as a new lantern to light the way along the path to the field where the Saturday evening soccer matches were held. 

The evening matches had caused a fuss at first, who wanted to play that late in the day? But an arrangement with a local restaurant to serve a dinner after each match had seen many more people in favour of it and the entrance fee to the field had been more than enough to pay for the food. 

Last week’s dinner had been ravioli with a gorgonzola sauce (idea borrowed from Wisewebwoman) followed by strawberry shortcake, and she had made sure to seat her niece at the same table as the new young soccer coach. She could still see in her mind the sparkles in their eyes.
