Sunday Selections #722

Long ago, Kim of Frog Ponds Rock, (who no longer blogs), dreamed up a meme called Sunday Selections.

A place where those who were willing could put up photos they wanted to share, new, old, good, bad or indifferent, any photos you please.

Nothing rude or vulgar though.

And we don't mind at all if other bloggers care to join us.

The meme is now continued by Elephant's Child and I join in as do a few others. Andrew is one.  Messymimi is another. Drop in to their blogs and have a look.

Wisewebwoman has also been joining us more often.

Charlotte's colour of the month is new start yellow:

one of my favourite colours, so I picked up my camera and wandered through my home looking for all things yellow. Imagine my surprise to find not much at all in this colour.

Here is what I found:

the back cover of one of my cookbooks

a book I forgot I had

my tupperware measuring cups, can you believe these are almost 50 years old?

and a tupperware bowl, younger than the measuring cups but not by much.

yellow flower petals on a coffee mug

a yellow veggie peeler

a yellow paper clip

yellow frangipani on my oven gloves. Most of these yellows don't quite match the new start colour but I think Charlotte will forgive me.

o a recent road trip with my brother to visit our sister, our first stop was in Two Wells, a small town north of Virginia, which is also north of Adelaide. In the RSL garden I saw this statue of a dog

with this plaque honouring the Australian Military Dogs that were killed in Afghanistan between 2007 and 2013.

seats with Lion supports

this on the door of a men's hairdresser/barber, possibly also a tattoo parlour?

a coin operated ride on tractor for the toddlers

and this Daschund seat at just the right height for kids, this is outside the Two Wells Bakery where my brother bought a pie to eat before continuing our journey.

More importantly he declared it to be the BEST PIE EVER and went back into the bakery to tell the person behind the counter who then took him outside to tell the Bakery owner who was very pleased to hear it.

If you are ever up this way, and pass through Two Wells, stop at the TWO WELLS BAKERY and try their hot meat pies.

Some images from the Two Wells Bakery (via google)

Breads and buns

cream filled buns (real cream not that fake stuff)

Pasty on the left, usually a vegetable filling with maybe a smidge of meat, vegetarian oprions are available; meat pie on the right, usually beef mince and gravy (ground beef) but many other varieties are now available, these are hand held treats most often sold at footy matches.

a variety of sweet pastries, doughnuts, vanilla slices, tarts etc

these next few photos are not from the Two Wells Bakery

most people get a dollop of tomato sauce on their pies

many bakeries also sell family sized pies for taking home and serving at dinner (supper/tea)
after all those pies, I thought you might like to hear this from the 70s

the song runs through three times with each version being slightly different.
I hope it plays.

No twins this week, I don't have any new photos of them.

  1. Love all the yellow and memories on that tupperware photos, we all had those mainly in the dreadul colour of "harvest gold" which was so sickly. Love all the pies.

    1. Wisewebwoman; harvest gold wasn't so bad, I have a large salad bowl in that colour, but I didn't like the lime green. Pies are tasty, but I always seemed to ge the one with gristle in it.

  2. Wow, 50 years old and the plastic is still OK? Yea, 70´s colors :-)
Why not paint a wall yellow? We have a green, an orange and a red wall.
Sad, nice statue. Ohh, the lions.
Speaking of. I just did Ingo´s hair.
Meep. Here is an Aussie who sells "Australian frozen pies". We were SO looking forward.
    We´d ordered 4, I think. Nah, disappointing.
Our first Aussie car was a Holden Commodore :-)

    1. Iris; tupperware is tough and made to last. I would love to paint, but I need to get permission, plus some of the walls have very large cracks which need to be fixed before any painting can happen. Some frozen pies are good, some are not so good and some are excellent. But buying fresh and hot from a bakery is always best. We had a Holden Kingswood.

    2. A shame for both, permission and cracks. Why not ask for both? At least the latter...
Haha, funny you. In Germany you cannot buy fresh pies. We simply don´t have that.

    3. I did have one large crack repaired but it was done badly and opened up again a few weeks later. I won't ask again because they will send someone who will do the cheapest job and that is never good.

    4. That is sad. After all you pay money for living there!

  3. My stepmother still has some of her Tupperware from the '70s. That stuff lasts!

The bench with the lion supports also fits your color scheme. :)

    1. Steve Reed; it really does! But those lids that need "burping" often cracked from use and had to be replaced free under the tupperware guarantee. I hadn't thought about the lions fitting the yellow meme.

  4. I looked around our house and, with the exception of a few book-jackets, there is very little yellow. And now that seems odd to me.

    1. Bob; you'll have to get more yellow, it's such a sunny colour and it would cheer you in the freezing cold winters.

  5. There is not much yellow here either. Love your examples. And still have some tupperware here too.

    1. Elephant's Child; you have a little yellow in your garden? Some of the flowers? Perhaps you could add some inside with towels or trinkets and I'm sure some of your books must have at least a little yellow.

  6. My mom had those same Tupperware measuring cups. I like the dachshund bench. Now I want a meat pie! I've never had anything like that around here. I guess the closest would be Hot Pockets, which are frozen, and not very similar to the real thing.

    1. Val; those measuring cups were very popular. I might ask my son-in-law if he could make me a daschund bench from concrete. I've never tried hot pockets, I don't think we even have them here, but if you manage to find meat pies give them a try. But be warned, some brands are good, some are excellent and some make you wish you'd never heard of meat pies.

  7. Football, meat pies, kangaroos and Holden cars :) ahhh the memories flood back. Especially those screamers at the footy :)

  8. Good morning, River. Yellow is such a happy colour . I, too, love it. Anything that exudes happiness is always welcome.

I think it is always important to thank, and pass on praise to those who deserve it for goods or food they produce for us, the public. Unfortunately, in many instances, praise and thank you are not as popular as complaints these days.

Take good care, River...I hope the week ahead is cooler for you down that way. It's very wet up here, with no sign of the rain easing for a couple of days or so yet. Not that the weather is changing my day to day hermit habits. I'm keeping busy doing puzzles, reading and keeping to myself. My cuddles to Lovely Lady Lola. :)

    1. Lee; Lola is living in the back porch these days where it is cooler. I agree it is important to thank and praise where necessary. The bakery owner who might have also been the actual baker was very pleased. We have a couple of cool days coming towards the end of the week, so that's something to look forward to.

  9. Looking around the room, I can't see any yellow at all. You did well to keep all the measuring cups together, through however many moves. I haven't hear the Holden ad for a very long time, and I don't really want to hear for many more years. I never knew there were three versions. I expect it was quite an effective ad.

    1. Andrew; no yellow? Aww. The trick to keeping things together is to always put them back where they belong once you have washed and dried them. Those cups and the measuring spoons, have been through 15 houses with me. Along with other tupperware. I loved that ad, and still do, it's cheerful.

    1. Joanne; I'm sad that I didn't buy from that bakery but I wasn't hungry yet, though I could have bought something for later but didn't think of it at the time.

  11. I picked up 5 pounds just looking at the bakery pictures.

  12. Rather a pleasant yellow and all your yellow things you could find.
Love the creme buns there, yummy R.
That song is a good one I had forgotten all about it.

    1. Margaret D; cream buns are a favourite of mine, with real cream, the fake stuff, spelled creme has no taste and has the texture of Ponds Cold Cream, remember that face cream from decades ago? A lot of the 70s ads were fun.
