The Big Day has arrived
As you read this, I will be in a deep anaesthetic sleep (Thursday morning) as I undergo a procedure known as a Belpharoplasty. On both eyes.
This is where excess/overgrown skin is cut away from above the eyelids. I have had this for years and it is getting heavier, reducing the vision by quite a bit as I cannot fully open my eyes.
I haven't seen my eyelids or my eyelashes in several years, so it is time I had it taken care of. There will be stitches, some swelling and maybe a bruise or two and also blood in the tears for a few days.
After the healing, which takes a few weeks, I will be able to have the cataracts removed, but one eye at a time for that as I still need to be able to see. At the moment I still manage to read reasonably easily, on blogs and kindle where I can enlarge the font.
Newspapers are a different story, they use a much smaller font than in previous times, to be able to squeeze all the news on fewer pages because paper is so expensive I guess. For that I use a magnifying glass, which isn't fun, but less strain on the eyes.
Most likely I will not have my usual "Wednesday's Words on a Friday" post this week.
Good luck and get well quickly.
ReplyDeleteBoud; thank you. I am home again and have no pain, though the bruises look painful. stitches will be removed next weel.
DeleteEyes are precious! I am so glad that you are getting looked after! You will heal quickly and then the cataract surgery will be a breeze and all will be well! Take it easy, take good care- we will be wishing you well and are thinking of you!
ReplyDeleteLinda Sue; eyes certainly are precious, we need them to read and blog and just to enjoy the beauty that is everywhere. I certainly hope the cataract surgery wil be a breeze.
DeleteHope all goes well and the healing is quick! And no pain...
ReplyDeleteIris; I was hoping for no pain and that's what I got. None at all, just brusing and blood teardrops which has stopped already, though I was told it could last up to ten days. I have stitches and some bruising, but no swelling, which is a surprise.
DeleteBest wishes for bouncing back quickly!
ReplyDeleteVal; I bounced back so quickly I surprised a couple of nurses who thought they needed to escort me to the bathroom, they weren't expecting me to be so steady on my feet and pain free.
DeleteSending you lots and lots and LOTS of healing wishes.
ReplyDeleteThe Happy Whisk; thank you, I think those wishes arrived quickly, since I woke easily with no pain and was able to walk without support right away.
DeleteI hope it goes really, really well. You will not yet be under anaesthesia but I hope it is gentle.
ReplyDeleteElephant's Child; it all was very gentle and I am happy to be home again. I have "steri-strips" covering the stitches and once they fall off I should be able to fully open my eyes.
DeleteFunctional eye lids and no cataracts are essential. It would be awful losing any part of the body, but losing vision would be awful.
ReplyDeleteBe healthy!
hels; thank you, I agree losing vision would be awful. I need to read! I can't imagine not reading. I am home again now and feeling normal.
DeleteSending healing thoughts your way.
ReplyDeleteKathy G; thank you, I am well and home again. With stitches and bruising, but that won't last long.
DeleteGood luck. Here's to seeing you... or you seeing us! My eye doctor is after me to do cataracts. I should do them but I'm just being lazy.
ReplyDeleteMike; get them done! If you leave it too late you will be blind, then how will you blog? I'm happy to still be seeing you all here and will get my own cataracts taken care of as soon as the eyelids are fully healed.
DeleteI hope it all went very well.
ReplyDeleteAndrew; thank you, it did all go very well and I am home again.
DeleteBest wishes for success in everything.
ReplyDeleteJoanne; thank you, it went well.
DeleteGood luck R. Yes, you will have bruising, but the good side is you will be able to see better, even better still when the cataracts are done on both eyes, takes time but all worth it.
ReplyDeleteMargaret D; I am looking forward to actually seeing my eyelashes again, it's been years! the healing is going well so far and I hope the cataract healing is just as easy when the time comes.
DeleteI am praying that you will have very successful surgery and results.
ReplyDeleteTerra; thank you, surgery was successful and I am home again with no ain, just bruising and stitches.
DeleteI hope your recovery is not too uncomfortable and that you will be pleased with the results. Life will be so much more enjoyable when you can see clearly.
ReplyDeletejabblog; thank you, no pain and very little discomfort. I am not allowed to get the stitches wet, so can't wash my face as usual, but with a flannel to do around the eyes.
DeleteIt's rough undergoing 'procedures', especially when you are older, but that is what we have to do.
ReplyDeleteAndrew; I'm surprised how gentle this was, I woke up quite alert with no pain and was able to walk steadily. I had to stay overnight because they don't allow you to go home alone right after anaesthetic and I had no one to pick me up. The hospital bed wasn't comfortable so I was glad to be home yesterday. Next round: cataract surgery, one eye at a time. Then I'll get that skin check I've been putting off.
DeleteAs always I'm running behind so I'll just say I'm thankful it went well and hope your cataract surgery goes just was well.
ReplyDeletemessymimi; thank you. The eyes are much more comfortable today.
DeleteGlad to read your followup and that you are doing well after the procedure.

Wisewebwoman; thank you, I'm thankful there is no pain.
DeleteToo late getting here to wish you luck with the procedure, but happy to read that it's done and you had a positive experience. I know you are sensible and will follow post-op directions, but I am sending good wishes for an uneventful recovery.
ReplyDeletejenny_o; thank you, I am almost fully recovered, just a little bruising left.
