Sunday Selections #806
Long ago, Kim of Frog Ponds Rock, (who no longer blogs), dreamed up a meme called Sunday Selections.
A place where those who were willing could put up photos they wanted to share, new, old, good, bad or indifferent, any photos you please.
Nothing rude or vulgar though.
And we don't mind at all if other bloggers care to join us.
In memory of Elephant's Child, the meme is now continued by myself and a few others. Andrew is one. Messymimi is another. Drop in to their blogs and have a look.
Wisewebwoman has also been joining us occasionally.
this is from "no-one", some time ago now, she was tracking the night cameras down on one of the beaches, I forget why, but thought this shot was pretty interesting and sent it to me. Shrubs in the foreground, waves in the background, heavy machinery on the right.

heavy trucks in my street some time back, there didn't seem to be any work going on, perhaps they were taking a lunch break
this is a removals van/truck and the design is a teddy bear with a "clock" face, enlarge it to see it better, I think it is very cute. I had a look at their website and learned they can also pack all your goods for you as well as move them. Good to know.

remember when crazy paving was a big thing? I still like it, though it is hardly ever seen nowadays.
I recently bought a new refill bottle of Windex (good stuff, cleans almost anything off everything)
and was really (REALLY) pleased to read the bottle is 100% made from coastal plastic recovered BEFORE it got to the oceans. The fine print there reads "collected on land within 50k of an ocean so that it does not reach oceans or landfills"
Australian Native trees are evergreens, but deciduous trees brought in over the last couple of centuries have lost their leaves now that it is winter here and I like seeing the tracery of branches against the skies
the crepe myrtles are also bare and the pretty red branches are more easily seen now.
the white of a young birch tree also stands out against the native greenery.
uh-oh, looks like the Dinosaur/Gnome party is getting a little out of hand.. (one of my many garden ornaments that live in the back porch)
finishing today with:
"The Monkey Pub" so named because people have been donating stuffed toy monkeys/chimps/gorillas to add to the collection above the bar. Brother R sent me this, the pub is in Adelaide, I think at Glanville, near Semaphore, but can't be sure.
I enjoyed seeing all your photos! I have seen a few videos of Magpies on YouTube. They are quite intelligent!

DeleteThat's a very interesting collection of photos. I like the breaking up path leading to a birdbath but nothing else. A magpie couple with their young, I suppose.

Birch trees look so nice in leaf and when bare.
That's good to know about the Windex bottle. I'm working my way through a five litre container, which must be nearly four years old. It doesn't get used as much now I do my own cleaning.

Andrew; thank you, that's what used to be called crazy paving, made that way on purpose with broken pavers. It is a public bar in a hotel down near Semaphore. I don't use Windex much either preferring just water or just a damp cloth for most cleaning. A bottle the size shown here usually lasts at least two or three years.
DeleteThat is a good way just to gather photos. Sometimes I post Orphan Photos that I’va had in the blogger queue for some time but haven’t gotten around to posting.
ReplyDeleteAnvilcloud; I usually wander around with my phone taking photos of whatever appeals to me. Sometimes the actual camera, but those are harder to load onto the laptop, with the phone I can just email them to myself then download from the emails.
DeleteThat crazy paving path looks like a crazy toe-stubber to me! I wouldn't get very far on it. I like seeing the bare branches in winter. Around here, you can see the squirrel nests that were hidden when the leaves were there.
ReplyDeleteVal; crazy paving is usually laid completely level with the soil, in the past the stones were sometimes set in concrete to be level fro walking on. They weren't paths thta had just cracked up with raised bits to trip on. We don't have squirrels here, but sometimes we see empty birds nests.

The coastal plastic recovered-idea is supergreat. On FB you find so many clips where people have to help animals who get stuck (not even speaking of having in in their stomachs) - I ffail to understand littering people.
Frankly... I hate naked trees - so far all still green here.

Iris; no the teddy bear does NOT collect for free. The company is a moving service and you hire them to pack up your stuff and move it to your new home. I don't know how much it costs but probably not cheap. If I win lotto and move I will let you know how much$$.
DeleteI like naked trees, but here they don't stay neked very long, already some are covered in new blossom. The gnome should have known better than to party with a dinosaur 😂

Good selection R, you always do have a good selection. I love that path and yes, we don't see that type anymore Those trees are good, love seeing how the branches decide to grow.
ReplyDeleteMargaret D; thank you, I try to get a varied selection to keep it interesting. I like the shapes and twists of the naked branches, every tree is different. They don't stay naked long though.

DeleteI enjoyed your selections. Windex is great stuff, just don’t use it on wood surfaces which have been painted, it can take the paint off if you use it often enough (ask how I know).
