Sunday Selections #681

Long ago, Kim of Frog ponds Rock, (who no longer blogs), dreamed up a meme called Sunday Selections.

A place where those who were willing could put up photos they wanted to share, new, old, good, bad or indifferent, any photos you please.

Nothing rude or vulgar though.

And we don't mind at all if other bloggers care to join us.

The meme is now continued by Elephant's Child and I join in as do a few others. Andrew is one.  Messymimi is another. Drop in to their blogs and have a look.

Wisewebwoman has also been joining us occasionally.I took a little long walk along Melbourne Street in North Adelaide last week and when I downloaded the photos there were over 200!

Here are a few of them:

Well the photos have loaded back to front, last to first, so we'll begin with the girls today.

J and S took them to the local park and this is Ana on the big slide

and Gen too, they're so adventurous and willing to try just about anything.

the historical plaque on the fence of St Cyprian's Church, enlarging the photo should enable you to read it.

it still has a bell in the bell tower.

"The Anglican Church of Australia Church of St Cyprian."

It's quite a small church from the front, but stretches back a long way along the block.

this very large back view mural is on the Eastern wall of a Hotel that I can't remember the name of

and the front view of the mural on the Western wall.

there were several of these tiled planter pots

with bunnies and carrots.

artist Jasmine Crisp decorated this hotel

with paintings of "Native Fruits"

one view of the complete frontage

and another view, The Minima Hotel

a closer look at the left side when facing

the glass verandah has metal vines and leaves which I like quite a lot

another view showing some more detail.

The utility boxes along the street have all been nicely decorated.

  1. All of your photos are delicious- no need for breakfast! The darlings of course and the mosaic of rabbits! Great. Interesting choice for a hotel- well done but curious!

    1. Linda Sue; I am ashamed to say I never noticed that "native fruits" mural before I walked that street. I only ever noticed the man and woman from the windows of a bus as I went to visit the twins. Now that I've seen all the other things I will never forget them.

    1. Elephant's Child; welcome back :) The girls have grown so much, they're fast leaving babyhood behind.

  3. Jasmine Crisp must have been excited to have a canvas that big.

    1. Mike; I am pretty sure this was part of a "SALA" exhibition (South Australian Local Artists) and if I had known about it I may have gone to watch as she worked.

  5. You certainly are a shutterbug, River, and we all benefit from you being so! :)

The gorgeous duo are having loads of fun, the dear little girls. Their joy is contagious!

I hope the coming week treats you kindly...take care...my cuddles to lovely Lady Lola. :)

    1. Lee; thank you. The girls had a wonderful time until there was a teeny accident that sent everyone home again. A small fall and a bruise, nothing serious.
Lady Lola is sulking right now, she has been doing her "hide inside the bed as long as possible" and this morning I shooed her out so I could brush all the cat hair off my sheets. I can't really blame her though, nights and mornings are much colder now and I'd like to stay in bed myself.

    1. Margaret D; thank you. The twins are very healthy, they appear to have inherited our strong immune system and I am thankful for that, also the parents take excellent care of them. Many utility boxes here are nicely decorated.

  9. I remember big Niece being 2-3 on a baby slide - she was sooo afraid!
I really think having a twin/sibling close by in age makes life much easier!
Churches .. oh, well. No good memories for me. Mostly about dying, even a young Dad. Makes it hard for me to trust, or believe...
You could join Sami with the murals! And the cute bunny counts, also!
Spring takes a break here, 3C... brrr.

    1. Iris; the twins mastered their baby slide in their backyard so I am not surprised they enjoyed this much bigger one.
I like to look at very old churches, the construction is so much better than anything built these days, the decorative parts especially. I don't go to church.
Autumn is settling in here, mornings and nights are colder and the days are cool yet beautifully sunny.
I thought about joining Sami with the Monday Murals, but then I wouldn't have them for Sundays.

    2. My Brother asked me if I want to be his witness for the wedding, but... "you need to go into the church for this, would you do that?" - heck, I´m not the devil! ;-) Sure I did.
First "night" I heard a bird chirping yesterday, SPRING!
Many publish Saturday/Sunday and join Sami anyways - she would love you joining - I am sure!!! Please do! If you feel like it.
Atm btw I watch the huge Canadian train, the Rocky Mountaineer, travel!

  10. Until last Christmas, I hadn't visited Adelaide for years. Finding (some of) the murals in Melbourne St was a surprise and highlight in North Adelaide

  11. It's funny that the hotel is called the "Minima" yet it has such a maximal mural! It looks nice though, as do the tiled bunny planters.

    1. Steve reed; it is actually quite a small hotel, it just looks big in my photos and of course the "maximal" mural helps. I loved the bunny planters, they were a lovely surprise.

    1. Val; someone famous long ago once said "life is short, eat dessert first". The girls are celebrities to me.
