Musical Monday # 23
Musical Monday
I was introduced to
Musical Monday by Delores who copied the meme from another site.
I think it’s a fun way
to show off some of the music we like and brighten up our Mondays at the same
time.
I’ll be finding my clips
on you tube, so will simply credit that site since there are often so many
versions of everything and I wouldn’t want to accidentally credit the wrong
artist.
Today’s clip is: Verdelle Smith
Tar and Cement (from 1966)
A chilling reminder of how much of our earth is being lost under modern constructions.
I was unable to find the lyrics, but I'm pretty sure this is easy enough to understand.

I didn't think I knew this one - until I got to the chorus.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, tar and cement do my head in. I would love to leave it behind.
Elephant's Child; I vaguely remember a scene in a movie I saw many many years ago, where parents took children to a museum so they could see what a tree used to look like.
ReplyDeleteSo true.
ReplyDelete50 years ago they were still driving cattle through this town and now one big section sports Home Depot, Staples, Costco, Lowes, Walmart and all the rest of the big Corp. stores. Oh yeah, I've been known to frequent them too because they are handy but it still makes me sick.
PS..... I got so carried away I forgot to say that I do like the song. Has a nice beat. I've never heard it before.
ReplyDeleteI don't recognise the artist's name but I remember the song very well and have always loved it.
ReplyDeleteOne fears what one's grandchildren and great-grandchildren may have to tolerate in the future.
I'm a country girl at heart and love trees and nature. Hate the skyscrapers and the way houses are being built on smaller and smaller blocks with nowhere for children to play in a garden.
I used to love that song...I haven't heard it in years and years! It was played often at my (small) 21st birthday celebration. Along with "I Got You Babe", "Hang on Sloopy", "I'll Never Find Another You"...and others, of course.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the memories, River. Hugs to Angel. :)
Manzanita; It's a very old song, from 1966. It's astonishing the changes 50 years can bring. The biggest problem seems to be people. There are so many of us and we all need to live and shop somewhere.
ReplyDeleteMimsie; I wondered if you had heard this one, it's from 1966. I worry quite a lot about my future descendants and hope they all will be able to know what trees and countryside look like. My grandchildren's grandchildren, 100 years from now.
Lee; I knew you would know this one. I know all the others you've mentioned, really don't like "I got you Babe", but the others are on my pod. I don't like "The Beat Goes On" by Sonny and Cher either.
First time I've heard that one...she sure had it pegged.
