Musical Monday # 60

Musical Monday

I was introduced to Musical Monday by Delores who copied the meme from another site.

I think it’s a fun way to show off some of the music we like and brighten up our Mondays at the same time.

I’ll be finding my clips on you tube, so will simply credit that site since there are often so many versions of everything and I wouldn’t want to accidentally credit the wrong artist.

Today’s clip is: Ben E King

Stand By Me

and the lyrics:

and the clip from the movie of the same name:

 Stand By Me
(starring Will Wheaton, nemesis of Dr Sheldon Cooper in the Big Bang Theory)

I hope these all play for you.

I heard that Ben E King passed away recently, aged 76 and this is one of my favourite songs by him.

  1. One of the greats...both the song and the singer. And how wonderful he was with "The Drifters" as well. "Save the Last Dance for Me" will always remain a favourite of mine, too. And we can't forget "Under the Boardwalk", "Spanish Harlem", "Saturday Night at the Movies", "Up on a Roof"...and the list goes one. What a catalogue!

And then a few days ago we lost another great...the father of the Blues...B.B. King.

    1. And what a great movie it was, starring so many good young actors at the time...it, also, will be a movie that will last.

  2. Another one that I didn't think I knew - but do. Perhaps my musical ignorance isn't as deep as I thought. Perhaps.

  3. Lee; I have all those songs on my Ipod! I've only ever seen the movie once though, so don't really remember it. There was a bridge and a campfire, I remember that much. I'll have to find a copy and watch it again.

Elephant's Child and fishducky; it's surprising how much the memory can dredge up out of nowhere. Someone will say, "do you like such-and-such by so-and-so" and I'll say "I don't know that song", then I'll hear it and suddenly remember all the words.

  5. This conjures up memories of hearing this song on the radio on the farm. Loved it then and also now.

  7. Merle; I only remember bits too. I thought my daughter had a copy, so asked if I could borrow it, she said she doesn't have it, which surprises me, because she has everything else.

Susan Kane; it's a classic, and will be heard for years. It 'speaks' to people.

Barbara; memory sure is a funny thing. especially when comparing memories with siblings. Their version is always so different. as for songs, I don't remember so many of them until I hear the opening bars on radio, then I'm suddenly 10 or 12 or 15 again.
