Miss Lola

is having a fabulous time skittering around the floor with a ball of scrunched up gift wrapping paper.

I watched her doing the same last night and she tired herself out enough to sleep most of the night instead of galloping around. She did still gallop a couple of times, but just to let me know she was hungry and after she ate she went right back to sleep.

I'm hoping the same will happen tonight, and if I get up at first gallop I can minimise the noise, which so far hasn't bothered Loony, but why take chances?

It's quite a joy to watch this eight years old girl playing like a kitten.
The paper ball is looking a bit tattered though, I'm going to have to make her a new one.

  1. Bottle caps seemed to be a favorite of my cat's. Good that's she's keeping active!

    1. Sharon; I don't think I'll try bottle caps in case she swallows one. I'm happy to see her playing though.

    1. joeh; Lola only has three small rooms, 9 holes is quite a bit further.

  3. Use tin foil...holds up better and makes a way better noise lol.

    1. Joanne; I'm feeling more glad now than in the beginning, at first all I could think was how different she is to Angel, she doesn't do the things he did. But we're much more used to each other now and playing with toys is great to see.

  5. Our cat Scuba loved empty toilet tissue rolls. He also loved just about everything.

    1. Susan Kane; Angel loved those when he was a tiny kitten, but not later. Lola shows no interest in them.

  7. She might like a ping-pong ball too. Rather a lot of our cats have.
It is truly wonderful that she feels safe enough to play.

    1. Elephant's Child; I hate this laptop! The Toshiba needs a rest, so I'm on the HP :(
I thought of ping-pong balls while in the city this morning, but The Reject Shop didn't have any, so I bought some of those plastic balls with a little bell in them, she chased one around until she lost it and I'll let her do that with all of them before I go crawling around retrieving any.
She also feels safe enough to go out into the back porch and sit on Angel's big tower.

  8. Good for you, providing Lola with a tempting plaything. This will look good on your resume when you apply to be a Santa's elf.

    1. Val; Elf? ELF???? and have to see all those whiny snotty babies crying into Santa's beard? No thanks.

  9. Lola is doing really well, isn't it funny what they can and will use to entertain themselves, still playing like a kitten is a blessing.

    1. Jimmy; Lola is doing well, and I think I've got her preferred feeding schedule worked out. Two teaspoons of wet food four times a day and dry kibble all the time. I had no idea a cat this old could play like a kitten, others around here have cats of similar age or older and they all just lie around sleeping.

  10. It's lovely that Lola has found something that brings out the kitten in her! Sounds very like our cat, who, incidentally, looks like Lola too. Every cat we have had has a favourite kind of play and a favourite kind of toy. Just like people.

  11. In light of your post about your neighbour, do you feel Lola is safe going outdoors? I would be nervous about that, myself, but you know the situation better than I do.

  13. They certainly do love scrunched up paper. :)

My two have a ball playing with the cardboard tubes from toilet rolls. And they'll be 15 years this November - Remy and Shama, that is...not the cardboard tubes! :)

They, similar to Lola, carry on like a pair of kittens still. Our furry mates certainly do make our lives worthwhile. :)

  14. Oh to play like a kitten again and to be so easily amused. What ever you are doing sure works. She must be so entertaining to watch.
