Wednesday's Words on a Thursday because I have something else scheduled for Friday
The original Words for Wednesday was begun by Delores and eventually taken over by a moveable feast of participants when Delores had computer troubles. Sadly, Delores has now closed her blog forever due to other problems.
The aim of the words is to encourage us to write. A story, a poem, whatever comes to mind.

Here is my story:
Behind me is a lifetime of days spent in secret dreams of meeting wonderful people and doing impossible things.
The reality of the now is entirely different, the dark recesses of my mind are packed with memories of failure, of defeat. The thread of my life, in my imagination, is rich with colour and promise, yet truly is no thicker or stronger than the web strings of a spider.
I am too quiet, too shy, to push myself forward. I may never become the author I once dreamed of being. I sit by my window watching as the first bird, one of many, lands on the grass to enjoy the mealworms I have thrown out just for them.
This is beautifully written, sad, and all too familiar.

DeleteI think most of us can relate to steps not taken.
ReplyDeleteArkansas Patti; or steps that were a mistake, although some of those brought us to where we are now, so they weren't all that bad.
DeleteThe vise ones say that we regret more what we did not do than what we did do at the end of our days. This rings true and resonates in your writing.

Charlotte; that's very true. Too many times I said no to things when I should have said yes.
DeleteRight now I do only regret that spamming Mary has not already been vanished in the Orcus of Dr. O. ;-)
ReplyDeleteYour words are well put, River, and, of course, I sometimes do also regret this and that. I am convinced though, that at the end of our days we should look back on our failures and mistakes with a lenient smile.
What about getting back to the roots one day – to Hamburg-Bergedorf? ;-)
In the meantime, we send your birds on holidays with a certain lady in Canberrra ...
Sean Jeating; mostly I look back on the best things and I know that my choices brought me four wonderful children and now four grandchildren, soon to be six. I won't be going back to Hamburg-Bergedorf. I left as a baby and all relatives there are now dead. I have no interest in going there.

ReplyDeletemessymimi; yes we can, but instead we should focus on where the roads taken have brought us. Thinking about what might have been should be only a short journey now and again. Wallowing is no good.

Victor SE Moubarak; sometimes we get to a point where the dream has to change, and that's okay too. Like it says in my header, "sometimes on the way to your dream, you get lost and find a better one"
