Sunday Selections # 574

Long ago, Kim of Frog ponds Rock, (who no longer blogs), dreamed up a meme called Sunday Selections.

A place where those who were willing could put up photos they wanted to share, new, old, good, bad or indifferent, any photos you please.

Nothing rude or vulgar though.

And we don't mind at all if overseas bloggers care to join us.

The meme is now continued by Elephant's Child (who is currently taking a break) and I occasionally join in as do a few others. Andrew is one.  Messymimi is another. Drop in to them and have a look.

Continuing with "no-one's" photos from Adelaide's Botanic Gardens:

enlarging this might make it clearer, a willow tree overhanging and reflected in, rippled, sun-dappled water

pink "naked ladies" aka Amaryllis at the edge of "Duck Island"

Duck Island

and a closer view. This man made island is in the lake where turtles also live

time for a morning swim

I think this is our Wollemi Pine, they are quite rare and this one has been slowly growing for several decades now.

we both love huge trees, mostly for their shade

with climbable branches

interesting  shapes and knot holes

I don't remember what this bright orange flower is, possibly a Watsonia, but I can't be sure.

Final gardens photos next week.

  1. such a lovely peaceful spot- follow the ducks to the best places! The trees look so welcoming for climbing! Favorite pass-time as a child- the Orphans might think so too.

    1. Linda Sue; I think my orphans would love it, I should take them before the weather gets too cold. Autumn is cooling things down here now.

    1. Arkansas Patti; it is very peaceful there. It sits between the city and the zoo.

  4. "Nothing rude or vulgar..." so how come you are allowed to post pictures of pink naked ladies River?

    1. Yorkshire Pudding; flowers don't count. and I'm not at all sure they are naked ladies (amaryllis).

  5. I cut up a couple of apples and tossed them out across the yard yesterday as the family of wood ducks were out there grazing. Of all the ducklings the parent ducks had only one is left. It always saddens me when I see that. They usually start off with 10 or 12 little ones, but the numbers are all too soon whittled down...easy prey for predators on the hunt for helpless victims. Seems to be the story of life everywhere.

Have a good week ahead, River. Cuddles to the lovely Lady Lola. :)

    1. Lee; I'm glad to hear at least one has survived to enjoy the apples.

  6. The gardens look so peaceful. I'd like to see some turtle photos but maybe they stick to near the island.

    1. Andrew; the turtles are often closer to the bridge leading to the kiosk. I've shown turtle photos before, but years ago now and they must have grown by now.

  7. Such a beautiful place! The trees remind me of our live oaks.

    1. messymimi; I don't recall what the trees are, I know we have a lot of Moreton Bay Figs there and probably a few oaks, as well as many gum trees (eucalyptus). Our Hills areas have many more oak trees and I love going there, but haven't been since Covid began.

  8. Beautiful pics. I hope this year our botanical garden will be open to public again.
And that we get weather warm enough to enjoy it!

    1. Iris Flavia; for a while ours was monitored and only vaccinated people could enter, but that's changed now. The only rule inside the gates is no smoking.

    2. Oh. I can happily say I never saw anyone smoking in ours, despite there is no such sign :-)

  9. I love these old tree trunks or trees with only thick branches, when it's night they look a bit spooky !

    1. Gattina; I haven't been there at night, but I can imagine them.

  10. Each tree seems to have a personality. Who knew there was a DUCK ISLAND? That is something I never imagined, even though it is man-made.

    1. Val; Duck Island is my name for it, I don't think it is officially named anything. I think all trees have personality.
