A True Legend Has left us...

Dolly Parton has died, aged 80, just six years older than me, this woman did so very much in her time on this earth and will never be forgotten.
I remember her on The Muppet Show talking with "Miss Piggy"

and in the movie "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas" with Burt Reynolds. It's a comedy and I laugh so much everytime I watch it.
Ignore the vertical green line, this is my own DVD copy of the movie which I will watch again tonight.
Other movies include Steel Magnolias, Wild Texas Wind, 9 to 5, Rhinestone, with Sylvester Stallone, Unlikely Angel, A Smoky Mountain Christmas and more, plus appearances in several Television series too.
Dolly supported many charities and even started one herself:
Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, a free book-gifting program which has branches in many countries including Australia. You can find it online to learn more about it. I believe she started this to help children and honour her father who never learned to read and write.

DeleteDolly was one of my favorites. Hick loved "A Smoky Mountain Christmas." Have you seen "Straight Talk," with James Woods? Dolly applies to be a receptionist, and ends up giving advice on her own radio show.

DeleteWhat a blessing she was, and still is as her legacy lives on. I have not seen or heard a single negative word about her from anyone in any walk of life no matter their location, politics, beliefs, etc. That is the mark of an amazing life.

ReplyDeleteRuby Rose and the Big Little Angels 3; we most certainly were fortunate. Yet I hadn't paid much attention until daughter "no-one" began playing her music on our stereo years ago now.
DeleteI remember in the 1970s when she appeared on TV and there were a lot of people making a bit of fuss about her being all hair and boobs - and learning that just because that is what SOME people will notice, actions speak louder to those who listen. An amazing woman.
ReplyDeletejeanie; I remember wondering how on earth she managed with the big boobs, but then I became a fan and eventually learned of all the good and great things she does/did. So many who are extremely rich only think of themselves.
