A True Legend Has left us...
😢😢
Dolly Parton has died, aged 80, just six years older than me, this woman did so very much in her time on this earth and will never be forgotten.
I remember her on The Muppet Show talking with "Miss Piggy"
(photo borrowed from Google Images, thank you to whoever put this there.)
and in the movie "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas" with Burt Reynolds. It's a comedy and I laugh so much everytime I watch it.
Ignore the vertical green line, this is my own DVD copy of the movie which I will watch again tonight.
Other movies include Steel Magnolias, Wild Texas Wind, 9 to 5, Rhinestone, with Sylvester Stallone, Unlikely Angel, A Smoky Mountain Christmas and more, plus appearances in several Television series too.
Dolly supported many charities and even started one herself:
Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, a free book-gifting program which has branches in many countries including Australia. You can find it online to learn more about it. I believe she started this to help children and honour her father who never learned to read and write.
One of the world's Very Best People
Singer
Actor Good Person.
There will never be another like her.

Liked and respected. You are the fourth blogger to mention her death that I've read this morning. I can't remember that happening for any other celebrity. Vale Dolly.
ReplyDeleteAndrew; thank you, Vale indeed. She deserves every accolade given her.
DeleteRIP Dolly Parton. What an icon and shining light, especially in today's America of hatred, greed, and evil. She will be missed so much!
ReplyDeleteDebra She Who Seeks; a very bright shining light, now extinguished, but the memory lives on.
DeleteJolene, Jolene, Jolene,
ReplyDeleteI am begging you, please don't take my man ..
hels; I love that song and several others of hers are on my playlists, to be played until the music dies.
DeleteA very sad day. She will never be forgotten.
ReplyDeleteRuby Rose and the Big Little Angels 3; never in my home and family that's for sure.
DeleteLovely tribute to Dolly, R. Well done and certainly a generous person from what I've read. May she RIP.
ReplyDeleteMargaret D; thank you, I suspect she is already in charge of a heavenly choir.
DeleteShe sure was a wonderful and caring woman! With many talents, too. What a sad day, only 80 years old...
ReplyDeleteIris; she was very talented and such a nice person as well, always doing good things.
DeleteTriste perda! Era ótima! beijos, lindo dia! chica
ReplyDeletechica; Dolly was one of the world's greatest women.
DeleteSo sad to see her depart this world. Lovely person, generous and kind, and a very good musician.
ReplyDeletejabblog; the heavens have gained one more bright shining star.
DeleteAdieu, Dolly. Thanks for the memories.
ReplyDeleteHaggerty; thank you for dropping in, Dolly left us with so many memories didn't she? and all good ones.
Delete"One of the world's Very Best People" -- that is absolutely right.
ReplyDeleteSteve Reed; you won't find better in my opinion and there are a couple of other country singers who come close.
DeleteDolly was one of my favorites. Hick loved "A Smoky Mountain Christmas." Have you seen "Straight Talk," with James Woods? Dolly applies to be a receptionist, and ends up giving advice on her own radio show.
ReplyDeleteVal; Dolly was a favourite of so many. I haven't yet seen either of those movies but will rectify that asap.
DeleteShe was a shining example of what a good person could be and do. what a pity that more wealthy people are not so motivated!
ReplyDeleteAnvilcloud; welcome to drifting. She was an example that many of us could follow, especially the richer, greedier among us, who think only of themselves.
DeleteWhat a blessing she was, and still is as her legacy lives on. I have not seen or heard a single negative word about her from anyone in any walk of life no matter their location, politics, beliefs, etc. That is the mark of an amazing life.
ReplyDeletemessymimi; and what a legacy! So much has been done by her for so many. I have printed a photo of her to put on my wall.
DeleteWe were fortunate to live at the same time as her.
ReplyDeleteRuby Rose and the Big Little Angels 3; we most certainly were fortunate. Yet I hadn't paid much attention until daughter "no-one" began playing her music on our stereo years ago now.
DeleteI remember in the 1970s when she appeared on TV and there were a lot of people making a bit of fuss about her being all hair and boobs - and learning that just because that is what SOME people will notice, actions speak louder to those who listen. An amazing woman.
ReplyDeletejeanie; I remember wondering how on earth she managed with the big boobs, but then I became a fan and eventually learned of all the good and great things she does/did. So many who are extremely rich only think of themselves.
DeleteShe was such a lovely person.
ReplyDeleteRIP Dolly.
All the best Jan
Lowcarb team member; she was and will be missed forever.
