Welcome back to Whimsical Wednesday!  Gosh, has it been a week already? The day for your googled giggle that gets you over the hump that is Wednesday and sliding down into the weekend. Another lion one, more exactly, a lioness. Call before visiting, just to check that Tiddles has already been fed..........

what irritates you Monday

Once again it is Monday, time for another what irritates you post. This meme was thought up by Delores at The Feathered Nest and I'm sure she'd be delighted if you joined in. Today's irritation is spitting. I see people spitting on footpaths and roads, in the parks, from bikes, I've even seen a father spitting while pushing the baby along in a stroller. It's disgusting! You people need to stop! It's much more prevalent in recent times and I don't enjoy having to watch the footpath to avoid the spits when I'm walking. People even spit out of passing cars. Worst of all are those with smoker's coughs who cough until they spit up such huge amounts of phlegm into the gutter,  I have to turn and walk away as soon as I hear them coughing. Just last week I saw a group of young children in school uniform, barely teenaged, and one of the boys spat as he crossed the road. At least use a tissue and throw it in the bin, please. How the he

Sunday Selections # 109

Welcome back to Sunday Selections! This once-a- week-meme was originally begun by Kim of Frog Ponds Rock, as a way to showcase some of the many photos we all take, but don't get around to showing on our blogs. The rules are very simple:- 1. post photos of your choice, old or new, under the Sunday Selections title 2. link back to me, River, somewhere in your post 3. leave me a comment so that I know you've joined in and can come over and see what you've posted. I usually go with a theme for my Sunday Selections and this week I'm continuing with some photos of the Botanic Garden.   Specifically, the old fern house, my favourite place.   It's a little humid in there so I can never stay long, but I love it and go there every time I am visiting the garden. The fern house is entered by crossing the bridge you see to the left of the photo. Below the stone wall is a dry creek bed, from this angle you can't see that there is a d

"h......is for"

I'm following along again with Toni's "a....is for" meme. Feel free to join in anytime, Toni won't mind at all. This week's letter is H. h.....is for hello. The following passage has been taken from the book I'm currently reading. "Gone Tomorrow" - a Jack Reacher story by Lee Child. It could be fact, it could be fiction, I have* no way of knowing. But I liked it, so here* it is. "One of the dog walkers came close enough to speak. The dog was an elderly grey mutt and the walker was an elderly white woman of about eighty. Her hair* was done and she was fully made up. She was wearing an old-fashioned summer dress that really needed long white gloves to be complete. The dog paused and looked at me mournfully and the woman took that to be a sufficient social introduction. She said "Good evening". It was close to three o'clock and therefore morning, but I didn't want to appear quarrelsome. So I just said "hello".

I did it online and it was easy.

I have a Seniors MetroCard, (because I'm old enough) and here in Adelaide, seniors travel free all day on weekends and  public holidays, on  weekdays between 9am and 3pm. I work different shifts at Coles, sometimes needing to be on a bus before 9am or after 3pm, so those rides need to be loaded onto my card. When I first got the card, I took it into the metro place in the city along with an assortment of paper multi-trip tickets that still had rides left on them. The lovely lady transferred all those rides onto my new seniors metrocard for me and I've been using it ever since. There was an astounding amount of rides to transfer, I had plenty of multi-trip tickets, since I always used to buy those in bulk when I got my tax refund each year. I don't like to be caught short when it comes to bus ride. (or toilet paper - you should see the stack of paper on my back porch....) Each time I validate, the machine tells me I'm getting a free ride or it tells me how many

Welcome back to Whimsical Wednesday! The day for your googled giggle that gets you over the hump that is Wednesday and sliding down into the weekend. Definitely an  uh-oh moment.

what irritates you...Monday

Welcome back to "what irritates you Monday." This meme is the brainchild of Delores and I'm keeping it going as long as I can find things to be irritated about.  today's irritation is heat. Specifically, summer heat. Summer is a beautiful season, trees are green, flowers are blooming, beaches and swimming pools are there for the enjoyment. And I am enjoying my times at the swimming pool, but I can't stay there all day, I must come home. Last Saturday,  I was ready to come home and thought I'd dried off enough to get my shorts and t-shirt back on, so I dressed, only to find my swimsuit wasn't as dry as it felt. By the time I'd walked to the tram stop, my shorts looked like I'd wet myself! uh-oh. I took my damp towel out of my bag and wrapped it around my waist like a sarong to save people the embarrassment of staring at an older woman who'd maybe forgotten to wear her depends underwear. Made a mental note to take knickers to change

On streets and in gardens. a fallen Lotus petal , caught in the leaves. a brand new Lotus leaf , not yet unfu

g....is for

Following along with Toni and her "a....is for" meme, today's letter is G g....is for Galleons. I love books and movies that have galleons and other treasure ships in them. Like Pirate ships. (Captain Jack Sparrow-Johnny Depp) I googled for information about galleons, but only found a bunch of stuff that wasn't very useful in terms of blog posting. Dusty old university papers. I was looking for tales of ships carrying cargoes of gold, gems, etc to a loved one, you know, the romantic stuff. I guess that's just in the fiction novels. I recently watched a movie titled Fool's Gold, (Matthew McConaughey, Kate Hudson). They were diving and searching for a ship that had sunk a couple of centuries ago, blown off course by a storm, somewhere in the Caribbean. The Aurelia. Now there's a place I'd love to go! Not to dive for wrecks though, I can barely hold my breath in a pool, I'd be useless way down deep. Dreaming of doing

pizza should be eaten for breakfast!

I'm currently reading Bad Luck and Trouble, a Jack Reacher story by Lee Child. I came across a passage that I thought share worthy, so scribbled bits of it down while on the bus this morning. "...pizzas....a perfect meal.....some empty calories, some fats, some complex carbohydrates.  Time-release energy, good for about twelve hours. " Pizza is good for twelve hours of time-release energy?? Twelve! Well, that's good enough for me.  I'll be seriously considering eating pizza for breakfast.  Probably the cold left-over half from the night before. I can't see myself chopping, topping and baking at 6-7am. I'll bet there aren't many cereals that give twelve hours of time-release energy. Top your pizza with healthy vegetable choices and you're really onto something!

Welcome back to Whimsical Wednesday! The day for your googled giggle that gets you over the hump that is Wednesday and sliding down into the weekend. Many of my friends tell me they enjoy Tap Dancing, but I'm not so sure it's a fun thing. What if they fall off?

so, the swimming...

As recommended by my doctor, I have decided to try swimming to help my back troubles. (He's convinced I need to strengthen my core muscles.) A back that has had limited flexibility since 1986. A back that goes "out" more often than.......well, certainly more than I do. A back that screams in pain if a physiotherapist does minimal, gentle massage on it. Well, he called it gentle. I cried. A lot. I bought the swimsuit, I bought a pass to the pool, good for thirty visits.  Ever tried to stuff many pounds worth of sagging fat into a tiny piece of Lycra? (I couldn't find anything in a neck-to-knee style.) Went "swimming" the very next day. A Sunday. As a swimmer, I'm an excellent floater. And I can lie on my towel soaking up some sun really well too. Actual swimming? Forget it! I floated and got water in my ears that took hours to drain out again. I struggled my way up and down the pool, and I do mean struggled , then got out for a re

What Irritates You.....Monday

I'm joining in again with What Irritates You...Monday, a meme started by Delores at The Feathered Nest. In this meme we get to vent on Mondays about things that irritate us. It can be anything on any day, just post your irritation on a Monday if you choose to join in and link back to Delores. My irritation this week is the theme song from the supermarket I work in. I know I shouldn't be saying this, ( I may be asked to remove this content from the web), but that song is really, really irritating me. I never liked the song to begin with, and hearing it played at intervals throughout the day is driving me crazy. I try to not hear it and sometimes that works, but last Thursday I wasn't successful and not only did I hear it all through my shift, but it stayed in my head all the way home and well into the night. Ear worm. A Status Quo ear worm. Sigh. I turned on the small bedroom i-pod, turned down the volume, and let it play all night while I slept. Peace i

And you can hop on over to The Elephant's Child to see if she has put up a Sunday Selections this week. This week I'm showing you the foam heads I bought to display my hats when I'm not wearing them. The cheap-as-chips foam heads.  I bought these online and thought I would have room on this bookshelf for three heads, but they were just a little larger than I thought. So head number three is way up high on top of the TV unit. I pushed a pair of my earrings into
