Apologies

I feel I must apologise for something which isn't even my fault.  I haven't left a single comment anywhere today because at every single blogpost, including my own, I got this: "an error ocurred ..." better luck tomorrow eh?

Sunday Selections #693

Image
Long ago, Kim of Frog ponds Rock, (who no longer blogs), dreamed up a meme called Sunday Selections.  A place where those who were willing could put up photos they wanted to share, new, old, good, bad or indifferent, any photos you please.  Nothing rude or vulgar though. And we don't mind at all if other bloggers care to join us. The meme is now continued by Elephant's Child  null  and I join in as do a few others. Andrew is one.  Messymimi is another. Drop in to their blogs and have a look. Wisewebwoman has also been joining us occasionally. R and V are home again so there will be no new road trip photos, though I may sometimes put in one or two that didn't get shown. But not today. A short selection today: a moody sky to match my mood when I had to return to the shops because I forgot the milk a ceramic cat in the Frameworks shop window mural spotted through the window of the bus, traffic was stopped at a red light or I might have missed this. this interesting lamp is

Wednesday's Words on a Friday

Image
The original Words for Wednesday was begun by Delores and eventually taken over by a moveable feast of participants when Delores had computer troubles. Sadly, Delores has now closed her blog forever due to other problems. The aim of the words is to encourage us to write. A story, a poem, whatever comes to mind. If you are posting an entry on your own blog, please let us know so we can come along to read it and add a few encouraging words. This month the words/prompts are supplied by Hilary Melton-Butcher and can be found here This week's words/prompts are:  1. lurk 2. amber 3. birch 4. drainpipe 5. spelling  and/or:  1. flour 2. buttercups 3. light 4. train 5. mullion Also including Charlotte's  null colour of the month Signal Green. Here is my story: As soon as Andy’s Dad heard that code phrase, he sprang into action. He rang around to a few friends with a code of his own “Family Amber Alert” meaning that one of his own was missing. In very little time a crew of ex-militar

For Iris - cheese toasties - the old fashioned way

We made these for weekend lunches and after school snacks in winter when I was much younger, and I still make them now. Made them for my own kids too. start with your non-stick frypan turn the heat to high two lightly buttered slices of bread pre-sliced cheese but NOT that individually wrapped stuff, that's awful. You can slice your own cheese if you prefer to not buy pre-sliced. two slices of cheese (one is okay but two is better) two spatulas for turning the sandwich put one slice of bread into the hot pan, buttered side DOWN add the cheese add the second slice of bread buttered side UP, let it brown on the underside one spatula under the sandwich to flip it, the other holding the second slice of bread in place let the second side brown. If you flip too soon and it isn't browned enough just flip it back place the sandwich on the upper half of a folded piece of paper towel fold the paper up to hold the sandwich so your fingers don't get greasy. Yum.  Don't forget to t
