Wednesday's Words on a Friday

On Wednesdays , Delores, from Under The Porch Light , has a meme which she calls “Words for Wednesday”. She puts up a selection of six words which we then use in a short story, or a poem. I’m hopeless at poetry so I always do a story. It’s a fun challenge…why not join in? This week's words are: 1. locomotive 2. magnificent 3. unholy 4. sodden 5. gaslight 6. villian Here is my story: Terry Worthington stood in the pouring rain, unmindful that his clothes were now sodden . He gazed at the magnificent locomotive , gleaming under the gentle glow from the nearby gaslight .  The restoration work had been completed yesterday, there was no trace now of the scraped paint, the unholy symbols scratched onto the windows, the work of that villian Arthur Archer, the very same man who had defaced the new carriage belonging to the town mayor, he'd used a pair of horseshoes to scratch symbols in the paint on the doors the same day the carriage

I love my cat (also titled: the bad bits) (also titled: a whinge)

I really do. He's soft and warm and cuddly and he loves me. But he's driving me crazy a lot of the time. He sits inside the shower cubicle and miaows. And miaows and miaows and miaows ......I know what he wants, he wants me to get in there and play with him.   Again. It's my own fault, I'm the one who taught him that playing tug of war with a flannel through the gap under the shower screen is fun, but I can only do it for a few minutes at a time. Half an hour at the most, then my knees and back have had enough. Angel can play like this for hours. I taught him to roll a small rubber ball around in there, it will bounce off the walls and screen and roll back to him so he can roll it again. At first he was happy to do this, now he prefers it if I sit on the closed toilet and roll the ball around for him. Well, no. Not happening. Not for long anyway. So I leave the bathroom when I've had enough and he sits there and cries. Aarrgh! I scoop him up and bring

Musical Monday # 9

Image
Musical Monday  I was introduced to Musical Monday by Delores who copied the meme from another site. I think it’s a fun way to show off some of the music we like and brighten up our Mondays at the same time.  I’ll be finding my clips on you tube , so will simply credit that site since there are often so many versions of everything and I wouldn’t want to accidentally credit the wrong artist. Today’s clip is Bette Midler Under The Boardwalk This song has been done by several artists, but this one is my favourite, from the movie Beaches.

Sunday Selections # 173

Image
Welcome back to Sunday Selections! This once-a- week-meme was originally begun by Kim of Frog Ponds Rock , as a way to showcase some of the many photos we all take, but don't get around to showing on our blogs. The rules are very simple:- 1. post photos of your choice, old or new, under the Sunday Selections title 2. link back to me, River , somewhere in your post 3. leave me a comment so that I know you've joined in and can come over and see what you've posted. 4. hop on over to The Elephant's Child to see more of her wonderful photos. Kath and Andrew often join in as well, although Kath has been quite busy lately and unable to join us, and Andrew is holidaying in Europe. Hopefully taking lots of photos. There are several other participants now though: Jackie K at WorkingThrough It Gillie at The View from Here I usually go with a theme for my Sunday Selections and this week I have a few Zoo photos for you. I went to the Zoo ye

the cat sat on the mat

Everyone remember that? The very first thing you might have learned to read and write at school? With winter coming soon here in Australia, I decided I needed a door mat for inside the front door so I didn't track wet shoes all through the flat when coming in from the rain. For the past two years I've had a raggedy piece of old towel on the floor in winter. I spotted a blue one in amongst all the beige and black and bought it, because I have the same blue in the curtains. I put it down on the floor and about two seconds later Angel claimed it for his own. ooh! a new scratching place! (I'm discouraging that every time I catch him at it) ah, the sun came out again. Nice! again with the camera, geez mum. I'll just take a nap now. zzzzzzzzz still sleeping. What a life. Much like mine actually, a short burst of work, then a nice long nap. Retirement is pretty good.

Wednesday's Words on a Friday

On Wednesdays , Delores, from Under The Porch Light, has a meme which she calls “Words for Wednesday”. She puts up a selection of six words which we then use in a short story, or a poem. I’m hopeless at poetry so I always do a story. It’s a fun challenge…why not join in? This week's words are: 1. absent 2. vacant 3. empty 4. destiny 5. eyes 6. glaring  Here is my story: Tod Snelling was furious. How dare they do this!  Those snivelling, snotty-nosed little brats! Running away because he'd slapped one of them! Just a slap, kid wasn't even hurt, but he'd bawled like a baby. They needed to know who was boss around here. Those other teachers were all too soft, kids needed to learn their place.  His glaring eyes roamed the empty room. Every child was absent , every seat vacant . Spinning on his too-high bootheels, Tod stomped angrily back into the hallway, where an entirely different destiny awaited him.  The pri
