Sunday Selections # 189

Welcome back to Sunday Selections!

This once-a- week-meme was originally begun by Kim of Frog Ponds Rock, as a way to showcase some of the many photos we all take, but don't get around to showing on our blogs.

The rules are very simple:-
1. post photos of your choice, old or new, under the Sunday Selections title
2. link back to me, River, somewhere in your post
3. leave me a comment so that I know you've joined in and can come over and see what you've posted.
4. hop on over to TheElephant’s Child to see more of her wonderful photos.

Andrew often joins in.
As does:

I usually go with a theme for my Sunday Selections and this week I'm continuing with some photos of my garden.

The ornamental plums beside my home are flowering again.

on a fruiting tree, each blossom is potentially a fruit, a plum in this case, but these trees are ornamental, so not many fruits will set.
I hope I get more than one this year, the birds are quicker than I am.

pretty, yes? It was a very windy day and petals were flying like confetti whenever the wind gusted.

they look like hail lying on the ground.

a little rain on the geraniums does them good.

And now, as promised, the newest new additions to my little patch.

a windmill!    Slightly blurry because it was spinning in the wind.

and it has a rooster!

and what's this down below?

a cute little tractor!

Garden's looking good!
Still plenty of open spaces waiting for more plants.
I just haven't decided yet what to put there.

  2. That little tractor did a heck of a lot of work, tilling up that garden soil. I love that weather vane effect on the little windmill. I've always had one on the barn when I owned a barn, Ha I like the effect of the blossoms flying all about.

  3. I am loving your garden. Quirky whimsy and plants belong together. You have me thinking that I need a windmill. And a tractor.

  4. You have a beautiful, fun garden, River. You'll have to make yourself a scarecrow to guard your plum tree. :)

I hope you and Angel have a good week ahead...take care. :)

  5. A windmill? Do you plan on pumping up water for your garden or perhaps generating your own electricity?

  6. Everyone needs a windmill, I have one but it's not as good as yours but no tractor but I do have a stagecoach will show you in the next post.

  7. Delightful, whimsical, and an excellent reminder to this poor Californian that rain does exist somewhere. My compliments on ingenious horticultural effects!

  8. Love that little windmill and tractor River. The fruit blossoms are lovely, your own little japanese garden with the blossom on the ground. Thanks for sharing. I've posted again this week under Sunday Selections, thanks for hosting the meme. xxx

  9. Delores; there were two styles of tractor to choose from, but the other, was too shiny and new looking. I wanted old and rustic.

Manzanita; I wish the tractor had done the work.

Elephant's Child; both available from Cheap as Chips. But don't carry them home on the bus. That windmill box was awkward and bruised my inner upper arm.

Lee; there is a scarecrow I almost bought (and will next time I'm at that shop)but he is quite small, about 30cm, he won't be at all effective.

Andrew; the windmill is purely ornamental, only as tall as me.

Merle; I've seen your windmill and I really like it. I'd love to see your stagecoach!

Geo; I do like a bit of whimsy in a garden.

Kakka; Japanese? Darn, I was hoping to recreate a little of outback Australia. ha ha

  10. Your garden is looking good, River.
I do like the rooster-vaned windmill very much. And the cute tractor is a nod to the old farm days. Reminds me of long ago.

  11. Vicki; that's what I'm aiming for, the outback farms look. Sort of.

  12. What wonderful ideas you have with the windmill etc. I'd love the rooster as the one we had on top of our (now defunct) garage years ago came to grief. The chap next door does have a wind sock which does tell us which way the wind is blowing from but I'd dearly love to have one of our own. Did you buy it from a garden nursery or hardware store?
I'll tell you a funny story about our weather vane with the rooster on top. At that time we had a chook that used to wander around the garden and one day I went out and there she was making eyes at the rooster on top of the garage. I did get a photo of the event and must dig it out one day. It was one of the funniest things I'd seen for a long time.
P.S. Those petals on the ground made me think of snow.

  13. Mimsie; the windmill is from Cheap as Chips, you could order one online and Phil could put it together for you. They come in a flat box, but are really easy to assemble, I did mine in 5 minutes. Funny to think of your poor chook losing her heart to a metal rooster.
