Sunday Selections # 243

Welcome back to Sunday Selections!

This once-a- week-meme was originally begun by Kim of Frog Ponds Rock, as a way to showcase some of the many photos we all take, but don't get around to showing on our blogs.

The rules are very simple:-
1. post photos of your choice, old or new, under the Sunday Selections title
2. link back to me, River, somewhere in your post
3. leave me a comment so that I know you've joined in and can come over and see what you've posted.
4. hop on over to Elephant’s Child to see more of her wonderful photos.
  Andrew often joins in too.

I usually go with a theme for my Sunday Selections but this week I have a random assortment of stuff beginning with....

this>>

airship, or blimp if your prefer. I heard a noise and assumed it was a far away helicopter, so glanced up and saw this flying past my home. Raced in for the camera of course!

it's advertising 'appliances online' but it's a speedy thing and these were the only photos I got.

This is the multi-use hanger I bought at Ikea.

here it is unpacked and hanging,

and with some of my scarves threaded through it.  The one on the bottom right,

is my favourite. I like the autumn colours and it has a silky feel.

I like this one too, semi sheer, with sparkly bits.

I have a red plastic object hanging on my kitchen rail. Know what it is?

here it is with a different view, a very handy little thing.

one more view, showing the little 'hook'.  It's called>>>

a jar key! you hook it under the edge of a jar lid, an UNopened jar lid,

and lift gently, just a little, until the vacuum seal pops. After that your jar lid is easy to open.
Available in a range of colours from most good kitchenware stores. You have to hold the jar as well, but I needed that hand for the camera.

I saw this bright green succulent in a planter outside a hotel and was tempted to break off a leaf to plant at home, but there were too many potential witnesses. :(

Next to Victoria Square, on the eastern side, is a large flower bed of pansies set into a lawn.

I love pansies,

but don't seem to be able to grow them myself.

So I'm happy to see them anywhere else.

this is the eastern side of Victoria Square seen from the pansies lawn by my bus stop.

and here's a slightly zoomed view.

How's your Sunday going?

  1. Love that jar key. I will have to track one down.
Your multi-use hanger looks good - practical and pretty with it.
Love your snippets today - and went down a similar route myself.
Scheduled posting didn't work again this morning...

  2. A blimp always exciting, haven't seen one in years.
The jar opener is handy the beer fairy is my jar opener at the moment but he is wearing out too.
You pinch bits of plants too, sometimes it's hard to get bit when there are lots of people around, you just wish they all go away.

  3. I've never seen one of those plastic jar openers. I just put the end of the handle of a teaspoon under the edge of the jar lids and that does the trick. But that look like a handy little gadget.

Pansies are such a pretty little flower. We always had them growing when we were kids. My landlords have quite a few dotted around their gardens.

Have yourself a wonderful week, River...and cuddles to your furry mate, Angel. :)

  4. I would have been tempted by the succulent too. The multi-hanger is a clever idea.

  5. Blimps are super awesome! :) Love the multi use hanger set. You have some lovely scarves. With this icy turn of weather I have been wearing mine again this week.

Here is my post - Sunday Selections Week 39.

  6. Oh my!! A blimp! How cool! And, rather surreal at the same time, I'd think :)

I really like your new hanger - might consider getting one for my scarves and hang it in the wardrobe.
Love your autumn scarf - just the style and colour palette I'd wear. It's very pretty.

And, sweet pansies are a favourite of mine, they always make me smile.

It's a lovely cool but sunny Sunday here - I call it a "pretty day". Hubby and I are planning our next room renovation.

  7. Elephant's Child; all good kitchenware shops should have them, but not supermarkets. Let me know if you can't find one.
MY scheduling didn't work? Or yours?

Merle; I pinch bits, but often they're too small and die so I wish I'd pinched a bigger bit....if there is something in someone's yard I'll knock and ask, but stuff on the footpath I just check no one is around.

Lee; a jar key is much better than a teaspoon, more colourful too. One of my neighbours has pots of pansies and petunias.

Tracy; welcome to drifting. now the scarves are hung there is room for my beanies and gloves instead of having them all scrunched in a corner of the drawer.

Snoskred; I was wishing I'd taken a scarf one morning last week, it looked warm, the sun was out, but the wind was freezing. Had to turn up the collar on my jacket.

Vicki; room reno?? pictures please. please, please, please. The scarf hanger is from Ikea, called a multi-use hanger and it's $9.95

  8. That airship must have come as a surprise and you were quick to get two shots of it to share with us.
That Ikea hanger is great and so many pretty scarves, an item I never use but the hanger would be useful for other things I am sure. Come to think of it I don't even own a scarf.
Am definitely going to try and find one of those jar keys. I can't open any jars these days and even Phil has problems. Some jar lids are curved and ordinary jar openers won't grip them. Thanks for sharing that one.
Love pansies which were one of my mum's favourite flowers. She grew them and we have in the past and also violas.
Perhaps next time you may get a chance to 'pinch' a piece of that succulent. Just lean down to look at it closely perhaps?
Our Sunday is very quiet. We slept in. Phil has been doing some fertilising in the garden (including my frangipani which seems very slow to have leave etc this year).

  9. Mimsie; no scarves? I thought for sure you'd have one or two at least. You seem like the scarf type, something glittery and chiffon perhaps.
You should be able to get a jar key from a good kitchenware shop. Take along the picture of it. Let me know if you can't get one.

  10. We'll have to get one of those jar devices for Mother who always needs jars to be opened. I don't know why more women don't wear scarves like you have.

  11. Andrew; scarves are everywhere in Adelaide, even men are wearing them.
Mother will appreciate a jar key, get one and show her how to use it, watch as she practises. Get one for yourself too.
