Wednesday's Words on a Friday

Image
The original Words for Wednesday was begun by Delores and eventually taken over by a moveable feast of participants when Delores had computer troubles. Sadly, Delores has now closed her blog forever due to other problems. The aim of the words is to encourage us to write. A story, a poem, whatever comes to mind. If you are posting an entry on your own blog, please let us know so we can come along to read it and add a few encouraging words. This month the words/prompts are supplied by Susan Kane and can be found here This week's words/prompts are:  1. steam 2. overview 3. bury 4. foundation 5. survey 6. reveal  and/or:  1. headline 2. fling 3. hand 4. emerald 5. safe 6. vein also including Charlotte's colour of the month which is salmon pink for March Here is my story: The steam from the spa was dense enough that I could barely see my boss, Charles Kritzvek, which was fine with me. The less I saw of that overfed blubberhead the better I felt.  “Don’t bother wi...

Sunday Selections # 629

Image
Long ago, Kim of Frog ponds Rock, (who no longer blogs), dreamed up a meme called Sunday Selections.  A place where those who were willing could put up photos they wanted to share, new, old, good, bad or indifferent, any photos you please.  Nothing rude or vulgar though. And we don't mind at all if overseas bloggers care to join us. The meme is now continued by Elephant's Child and I occasionally join in as do a few others. Andrew is one.  Messymimi is another. Drop in to their blogs and have a look. Beginning today with a flowering yucca in a neighbour's yard a close up of the flowers in my own "garden" this spindly growth is a potato, I scooped soil from around the edges of the pot to mound up around the stem a bit, next time I will plant properly, low down in the pot and add soil as the plant grows taller in the short wide pot three Caribbean lilies are growing and in the taller pot there are now five, four clearly seen and the fifth one behind the top pla...

I'm back!

After an entire day without power, so no internet, no hot cuppa's, no cooking etc I finally have power again.  I woke up this morning to find the power was out and for a long while thought it was just my area, but I caught the 5pm news on my radio and learned that 93 areas were affected by fallen trees and lines down all over the place! What a nightmare for those with babies and small children!  I had batteries for my old radio and for the camping lamp, also bread and cheese and other things that don't need cooking, so I was okay.  I went to the shop for my newspaper and found they were running on generator to have the checkouts open, but the freezers and dairy fridges were closed off and covered with insulating (I hope) plastic. There will be a major loss for them when all that has to be thrown out.  My power came back on at 5.20pm, but on the TV news just now I've heard many homes are still without and may not have power until tomorrow morning. Also a thunder...

A short selection today, beginning with a "blast from the past" November 2013, when I was still riding my bike and had short hair Back now to last Tuesday, this is what happened when I put some apples, brown sugar and cinnamon to simmer, then got distracted painting a picture frame, oops. this "mural" is on a utility box on the corner of Hutt Street and South Terrace, I be...

Two articles from Friday's newspaper

1: " Aussie Resources Talk about energy prices and the various solutions to fix the rising costs can miss one central point.  The resources under the ground are owned by Australians. Governments should reserve 15 per cent of coal, gas and any other resource for the use of domestic customers, both private and business, at a heavily reduced price.  Businesses would immediately benefit. Most gas-producing countries have a domestic gas reservation policy set at a price usually well below international parity. Why can't we do the same? It's been the case in Western Australia since 2006. Do we really think that consumers in the Middle East are paying the same for their petrol as we are? It's high time Australians stopped being ripped off for the resources we own. David Haynes, Newton" my thoughts: excellent points and why aren't our governments helping their own people as is done in other countries? Even in one of our own states! 2: " Rental pressures Chatti...

Elephant's Child is still taking a break, so I haven't linked her. let's begin with Lola, sound asleep in my TV chair, she gets up when it is close to 6pm, which is when I turn on the TV and she doesn't settle again until I am in my chair so that she can go back to sleep between my feet. I have just finished reading "Nation" by Terry Pratchett the blurb on the back: "On the day the world ends...Mau is on his way back from the Boy's Island. Soon...
