Sunday Selections # 629

Long ago, Kim of Frog ponds Rock, (who no longer blogs), dreamed up a meme called Sunday Selections.

A place where those who were willing could put up photos they wanted to share, new, old, good, bad or indifferent, any photos you please.

Nothing rude or vulgar though.

And we don't mind at all if overseas bloggers care to join us.

The meme is now continued by Elephant's Child and I occasionally join in as do a few others. Andrew is one.  Messymimi is another. Drop in to their blogs and have a look.

Beginning today with a flowering yucca in a neighbour's yard

a close up of the flowers

in my own "garden" this spindly growth is a potato, I scooped soil from around the edges of the pot to mound up around the stem a bit, next time I will plant properly, low down in the pot and add soil as the plant grows taller

in the short wide pot three Caribbean lilies are growing

and in the taller pot there are now five, four clearly seen and the fifth one behind the top plant, the bulb there has multiplied :)

during the recent power outage I found my miniature speakers

and plugged in my miniature I-pod, which didn't last long as I had forgotten to charge it up, so I put batteries in the old radio and listened to that instead.

I had my camping lamp ready in case the power was still out by nightfall

and I spent the day doing crosswords and other puzzles

as well as reading books on my kindle, well half of one book

the little redheads weren't at all fazed by the lack of power

and way across town, the twins were having fun climbing all over each other, that's Genevieve with her arm in the air "I am the winner!" and Anastasia being held down.

  1. Aw, the littles are so sweet! We are hoping to avoid a power outage. There may be freezing rain on the way!

    1. Jenn Jilks; lay in a supply of torches, lamps and batteries. A few crossword puzzles too if you like them. Freezing rain is something we rarely get here and I am so thankful for that.

  2. The yucca flowers are gorgeous and your Caribbean lilies look good and strong.
It must be fun being a twin - there's always someone to play with.

    1. jabblog; and always someone to talk with too. I'm hoping for more than one flower on the Caribbeans this year, the yuccas belong to a neighbour across the road.

  3. I love the yucca and your emerging lilies. The twins are total cuties and are growing incredibly fast.

    1. Elephant's Child; I'm hoping for more than one bloom on my lilies this year, Isn't it amazing how much a child grows between birth and the first birthday? The twins are a week away from being 10 months old.

  4. That's a great photo of the twins. We used to have a yucca in our yard in Florida when I was a kid and I remember those flowers well!

    1. Lee; the babies are happy, it runs in the family, no cranky babies for us, except when they are hungry. I do the puzzles in my daily paper, but not often in the puzzle books I have stashed here. Those are for emergency down times, like blackouts.

  6. The yucca flowers are not what I would have expected. Quite nice really.
    Why was the power off?
One of our new twins does that to his brother, that is crawl over the top of him. It doesn't seem to be a bother.

    1. Andrew; the power break was caused by trees and lines coming down in the huge wind storm we had last Sunday night. 33,000 homes and businesses were without power for most of Monday and some until Tuesday. Babies do crawl over whatever is in their way.

  7. I'm glad the garden continues to give you so much joy.

It's always good to be prepared for power outages, although it's easier said than done.

I do love the redheads, and those sweet babies.

    1. messymimi; there is always something to see in gardens, my own and others. I'm almost always prepared for things like blackouts and for when the water gets shut off if plumbers need to do a major repair, I fill my kettle and a water jug every morning.
The redheads have been very quiet lately, while the twins are becoming noisier, finding their voices.

    3. Yes I do use the keyboard to type in names of books when in the Kindle Store..I've had my Kindle for years, I bought it at Woolworths as the time, it was the only place I could buy one in Tasmania.

  10. Beautiful plants! Here it´s still too cold to plant anything. 7C right now...
Wow, your potatoes! And lilies... looking forward to "meet" them!
Somewhere I must have such an I-pod, too.
I have successfully found my torch, btw! My kindle looks very different from yours. It just has an on/off button!
    And no lid, either.
Cute family scene and they sure know where their home is.
Wow, the babies have chosen their sport ;-)

    1. iris; the potatoes aren't doing so well, it was an experiment when I found a sprouted potato in the cupboard, but I know how to plant them properly and will do that next time. my kindle is the less popular "keyboard" one, bought only because it was cheaper than the others. It didn't come with the cover, I bought that online. I hope the babies don't grow up to be wrestlers, it looks dangerous.

    2. Yes, wrestling is... show, actually, and none I would watch.

    2. Charlotte; I love the twins too and the redheads may eventually be given to them. I hope for no more power outages too but winter is coming, with it's gusty winds and tree branches will fall.

  12. We have yuccas along our front sidewalk. My little dog Jack likes to wallow around in the leaves at their base. He's gotten chubby, and smashes them down now, rather than being able to wiggle in and hide. The twins look like they're competing in a wrestle royale. Their showmanship is fantastic.

    1. Val; I wonder why Jack loves to wallow there? are they cool and damp? I think the twins are beginning to realise they can play together.

  13. Yuccas are stunning but take over very quickly. And they are vicious and will blind you and scratch you to pieces. But the flowers are lovely.
    The twins are delightful.

  14. Here in desert-y California, there are some huge yucca plants. For me, the small succulent kind are for me. Those baby sisters! Oh, I could spend a day or two with them, until I dropped from exhaustion. Sweet babies.

    1. Susan Kane; I've seen giant yuccas online and prefer smaller plants, but not a yucca, I read the above comment how they can take over and I don't want that. I spend a day with the twins now and then and always need recovery time after, they like to be held but they're heavy now.
