Sunday Selections #705

Long ago, Kim of Frog Ponds Rock, (who no longer blogs), dreamed up a meme called Sunday Selections.

A place where those who were willing could put up photos they wanted to share, new, old, good, bad or indifferent, any photos you please.

Nothing rude or vulgar though.

And we don't mind at all if other bloggers care to join us.

The meme is now continued by Elephant's Child and I join in as do a few others. Andrew is one.  Messymimi is another. Drop in to their blogs and have a look.

Wisewebwoman has also been joining us occasionally.

name this movie

one brave little nasturtium growing all alone at the edge of the footpath

if anyone can help me remember the name of this flower I would be grateful

the leaves look like this

and the bush grows tall

pretty yellow daisies growing through a fence

I've never seen such a nice moving van

just look at that cute teddy bear

closer to home:

the clivias are blooming, most are plain orange

while some are orange and yellow

some have white behind the yellow

while one plant in the middle of the "sea" is just yellow

in my garden I have this palm which was getting quite tall

until an unknown someone rudely chopped it in half, not for the first time either

he or she stripped the leaves and left them at the base of the pot, so I gathered them

and wove a picnic mat for the little reheads, they can't wait to try it in "the big outside"

my aeoniums are crawling with tiny bugs, some black, some striped

"no-one" has spotted a "ghostly" row of lights in her yard

the twins have been out in the sunshine

picking flowers (dandelion weeds)

and sharing.

  1. It's a shame about your palm. Some people are so 'entitled' or just vandals. The little redheads on their picnic mat look so cute, though.
I'm after a yellow clivia. They grow so well in the conservatory and I keep splitting them, but I'd like a yellow one for a contrast.
The girls are growing so tall .

    1. jabblog; if my garden had a fence they might think twice, but no gardens here are fenced so whoever wants somrthing just waits until dark and helps themselves. This is why I rarely see flowers on my hoya, as soon as there is a head of buds, someone snips it off for their vase display. Que Sera.
The girls are getting tall, you should see their pile of clothes that no longer fit!
Can you order a yellow clivia from a nursery?

  2. That's a clever little picnic mat! Good use of the damage left behind by the psycho palm-chopper! I wonder what the girls will think when those pretty yellow flowers turn into puffballs? That's always a fun time, until you realize you are actually spreading more dandelions.

    1. Val; I don't think the damdelions will get to puffball stage, there is a clause in their lease that says the grass must be kept mowed so J is out there every weekend. I'm quite pleased with the little picnic mat, though I know it won't last long. The leaves will dry and fall apart.

  3. Is there a chance your palm just rotted and the top leaves fell off? It looks sort of mushy, but maybe that's just damage from the psycho palm-chopper (to steal Val's term). Hopefully it will grow back. The clivias are very cool.

    1. Steve Reed; the mushy top is from the recent rains and the stem was quite a bit taller so I know someone has cut or broken it just like several years ago. It will grow back and I'm not too concerned about it. I like the clivias, they are multiplying year by year and will eventually fill that area.

  4. I am clueless about that plant. Sorry. Love the cliveas. Ours (orange) are just coming out. The twins look great and I am impressed at your weaving. Much less impressed at the phantom palm chopper.

    1. Elephant's Child; I'm thinking tibouchina for the plant and will google for that name later. The weaving was done on the kitchen floor and I forgot to shake any dirt off the leaves first so I made quite a mess, but the mat looks good and the floor is washable.
Your clivias are about a month behind ours so you'll have them a month after ours die down. I'm not too concerned about the phantom chopper. Bits of my jades get broken off all the time too.

  5. Bird on a wire.
    Google says Blue Hibiscus.

    1. Mike; yes! Bird on a Wire, one of my favourite movies. Blue hibiscus? I didn't know there was such a thing. The petals look a little more delicate than hibiscus, but that doesn't mean it isn't one.

  6. It’s great that Kim of Frog Ponds Rock started it, and it’s nice to see it continued by Elephant's Child and others. I’m sure everyone appreciates the chance to share and view different kinds of images, whether they’re new, old, or just interesting. If you’re joining in, I look forward to seeing what you have to share!

Wishing you a lovely weekend. You are invited to read my new blog post: https://www.melodyjacob.com/2024/09/sighthill-neighbourhood-glasgow.html

  7. Well, the redheads have a lovely picnic mat from that vandalism.

    1. Joanne; they do and can't wait to try it outside, but not until the southerly winds are finished for the season, they don't like chilly breezes.

  8. Daisies were always thought of as ordinary, not classy like roses, orchids and tulips. But your daisies look colourful and attractive.

    1. hels; I like daisies and there are so many different types and colours around here.

  9. Alyogyne family apparently, purple hibiscus.
Cliveas seem extra good this year, perhaps because of the so called mild winter.
The girls' hair seems to be becoming blonder.

    1. Andrew; another vote for hibiscus. Our clivias always look good, that patch is sheltered somewhat from the southern winds by the block of flats along that edge. I think the girls hair was freshly washed, but it is a bit lighter anyway, maybe from the sun since they run outside every chance they get. I remember mine was always lighter in summer from being at the beach every day.

  10. We don't have palms. We have fir trees. Do you have fir trees.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Dora; yes we do and a variety of pine trees too, probably more pines than firs I think. We are a beachside city, so we have several types of palms. Mostly date palms I think.

  11. Such a cute van!!!
    Sorry about your palm...
That picnic is so cute - 9C here - and it´s nearly lunch-time.
"no-one"´s place looks like covered in snow.... brrr.
Cute to see the twins sharing :-)
    Have a great Sunday.

    1. Iris; it's the nicest moving van I have ever seen. The palm is no big deal, it will grow back and it needs repotting anyway. I'll do that after the summer. 9C?? Brrr, that's too cold for me. That photo from "no-one's" place was taken before dawn, there might have been some frost on the grass.
The twins share everything, if one has something and the other doesn't they will tear or break in half and give to the sister, whether sandwiches or a biscuit or a piece of chalk.

  12. Lovely to see the two little ones entertaining themselves.
That wasn't very nice that your palm was broken.
Love Clivias but we don't see many of them down here.
Bird on a wire was or is the name of the movie...take care.

    1. Margaret D; yes, Bird on a Wire is one of my favourite movies, with Mel Gibson and Goldie Hawn.
The twins play well together, they're very close.
I'm not too worried about the palm, I need to repot it after the summer anyway. Adelaide has plenty of clivias, they'r eeverywhere this time of year, mostly orange, though I have seen a red one.

  13. I have never heard of clivias they are absolutely beautiful. How shameful the anonymous destruction though. Those girlies are a delight.

    1. Wisewebwoman; clivias are a hotor dry climate plant, they'd probably do alright in a greenhouse there. I'm not too concerned about the palm, it will grow back and now the dolls have a picnic mat. The girls are talking more now and I can even understand some things they say.

  14. A delightful series of photos, the girls are getting to be little ladies. A pox on the palm chopper, may s/he come to repent the deed.

    1. messymimi; thank you. The girls are very polite saying thank you everytime you hand them something and when they share with each other. The palm chopper doesn't concern me. I just prefer they would ask first.
