Sunday Selections #706

Long ago, Kim of Frog Ponds Rock, (who no longer blogs), dreamed up a meme called Sunday Selections.

A place where those who were willing could put up photos they wanted to share, new, old, good, bad or indifferent, any photos you please.

Nothing rude or vulgar though.

And we don't mind at all if other bloggers care to join us.

The meme is now continued by Elephant's Child and I join in as do a few others. Andrew is one.  Messymimi is another. Drop in to their blogs and have a look.

Wisewebwoman has also been joining us occasionally.

Giant ghost dragon for sale in the big green hardware store. Did I buy one? No. Not at $399!

I bought marigold seedlings to brighten up a few empty pots

mixed colours and somewhere in this pot is a garlic clove sending up a tiny shoot

two in this smaller pot which also has a pelargonium cutting

and one all alone, but surrounded by seeds of zinnia. I was hoping to buy zinnia seedlings but they never seem to be available no matter what month I look for them. We'll see how long all these last before the snails and slugs find them.

the flowers on the jades have all died but still look quite nice in their rusty brown

most of the caribbean lily flowers have died leaving behind their artistic stalks

just a few left in this other pot. I do wish they would last longer.

up around a couple of corners the wisteria is now blooming

and in "no-one's" yard, her apple blossoms have turned into baby apples

home-grown deliciousness

taken from a distance to show how tall that yellowish tree is, those are the flowers and I know it as Australia's native frangipani

I have NEVER seen one flower as profusely as this one. the flowers open white and darken through shades of yellow before browning and dropping off. If I ever have a yard of my own again I will plant one of these.

here's me playing with the girls

who are about to begin a whole new experience.

  1. The frangipani is gorgeous.
Toilet training twins must take the patience of a saint.😇

    1. jabblog; it is a beautiful tree and I would love to have a yard big enough to plant one. Meanwhile I get to enjoy this one every time I walk past it. I can't imagine trying to toilet train two at once, but maybe one will learn by copying the other and both will be nappy free by the end of summer.

  2. That's expensive, even for a giant ghost dragon! Cute baby apples. Looks like you had great weather for playing outside with the girls. I can't decide if it would be easier or harder to have a "potty buddy" while learning. They won't be going through it alone. Or they might be competitive. Or one might want to keep playing when the other gets the urge.

    1. Val; visit downunder and see just how expensive EVERYTHING is! I don't decorate for halloween anyway, but I'd want something that would last several years for re-using, those gauzy sheeting "wings" will break down quickly.
I think having a potty buddy might help, when one sees what the other is doing and getting praised for, the other will copy. I hope they catch on quickly.

  3. From Wikipedia... "Plumeria, also known as frangipani, is a genus of flowering plants in the subfamily Rauvolfioideae, of the family Apocynaceae."
There will be a spelling test tomorrow.

    1. Mike; let me just write down those words so I can remember them better and so I can look them up and see if my tree is actually one of that kind. I used to ace spelling tests at school.

  4. Much as I love dragons I wouldn't be tempted at that price either. Love the blooming and growing things - including the twins. Good luck to their family on this next step. This next big step.

    1. Elephant's Child; I'll be wondering how low the price will go after Halloween. But I still won't buy one, I just don't have the space and as I mentioned to Val, those gauzy wings won't last very long anyway.
I hope the twins do well and learn fast, it won't be easy for S to mop up "accidents", with one leg being titanium from the knee down, it means she can't get down on her knees.

  5. Tell me more about the dragon , it’s amazing

    1. John Going Gently; welcome to drifting. I know nothing more about the dragon than the size and price. It's for Halloween decoration as you probably guessed. The head and neck are plastic, maybe some sort of resin moulded thingy, and the gauzy wings are thin and made to flutter in breezes to scare people in the night. There is no other skeletal structure to it.

    1. Jenn Jilks; thank you, I love it too. But not enough to buy one.

  7. I don't know the native frangipani at all.
The dragon is a strange thing for the big green shed to be selling but it is pretty cool.
The big step will make life so much easier.

    1. Andrew; it is a tall growing tree, with glossy dark green leaves, small, not long like the regular frangipani which is also beautiful and I'd love to have one. The bug green shed is chockers with Halloween stuff, skeletons in assorted sizes, some with glowing solar powered eyes that glow red, a "witchy"skeletal "housekeeper' with a cauldron and other spooky type things.
The big step, once completed, will definitely make life easier and cheaper too since they won't have to be buying nappies every week.

  8. You wrote see "how tall that yellowish tree is". It is in an excellent spot on the border of the property, not blocking the long windows in the lovely white house.

    1. Hels; the frangipani is actually on the property behind that white house one which is actually a Salvation Army building with offices etc and a small chapel off to one side. The tree is on housing Trust property and shades the units directly behind it. I'll take another photo from "my" side.

    1. Joanne; certainly too expensive for my budget!

  10. That seems a ridiculous price for that dragon, I'd leave it there as well.
That beautiful flowering tree is called a 'Hymenosporum flavum', native Frangipani.
You are going to have a pretty show of flowers in your pots there R.
Gosh how those two little ones are growing, toilet training, now some fun may begin.

    1. Margaret D; it is too highly priced but I bet they've sold a few.
Thank you for the tree name, I will always call it native frangipani though.
The girls are almost two and a half, just about the right age for quick learning I'd say and warmer weather always helps, with fewer layers of clothing.

  11. 400 bucks?! And someone is really supposed to buy that?....
I had but one flower blooming but now another one starts up. It was a weird "summer"...
I wish you more luck and no peeing possums!
    The video sadly won´t run.
    Potty time, oh, bad memories!
My parents sent me at age 1 1/2 to my Grandma´s Sister, a Nun.
Her bathroom was smelly. She sat me on the potty despite I didn´t need to go and I had to sit there until I could.
It was awful, but it worked. I had to call her "Aunt Nina".
    These two do better!
Big Niece was already on the toilet, but still needed help (from Papa) but wanted me with her on her big business. She reached out to me in an inviting gesture and asked me to the same, hands palms up.
Then she raised her hands, hit into mine with the words "best friends forever!".
I´m still thinking when to tell her that story!

    1. Iris; I'm often surprised by how many people buy expensive things like this. I wish you had a better summer, we have many flowers coming out now. This morning I wandered around with my camera and saw yellow iris and yellow tulips. I can't do anything about the possums, but I will move the pot plants to an area away from where they pee.
The video is only 11 seconds showing the flowers blowing in the breeze.
I barely remember potty training my kids, I always chose summer when they wear fewer layers of clothing so if they accidentally wet their pants things were easily washed and dried quickly. I think the twins will learn quickly.

  12. Yikes, that is expensive! It would have to last many, many years of use to be anywhere near worth it, and I'm not up to decorating that much.

Your garden and flower and tree pictures are lovely, I hope you have a wonderfully prolific garden this year.

May the potty training be quick and go well!

    1. messymimi; far too expensive in my eyes. Most of the flowers here aren't my own, they are from gardens I pass on the way to and from the shops. The gardens in the grounds here are all starting to flower now, I wandered around this morning taking photos.
Yes please to the potty training going quickly and well.

  14. That giant ghost dragon is tempting, only I would not know where to put it, or even worse how to get it inside my suitcase on the way home ... that and the price - I think I'm going to forget abpout it and just enjoy your beautiful flovers and sweet twins.

    1. Charlotte; not at all tempting to me, though a much smaller one might tempt me if it was cheap enough. They come packed in boxes, but that big one wouldn't fit in a suitcase.

  15. Wow that dragon is expensive. I never knew about Australia frangipani, thanks for that. And those girlies as always are a treat for your readers!

    1. Wisewebwoman; too expensive for a plastic head and gauzy wings. Australia has several "native" versions of other plants. The girls are a delight aren't they?
