smiles are free, use one everyday
We used to have a bright yellow bumper sticker on our car that read 'Smiles Are Free, Use One Every Day' with a smiley face on it.
Many years before that, I knew a poem about a smile that travelled the world and just now over at Mohave Rat's blog, I was reminded of it.
Of course I couldn't remember it, so off I went to Google and found it.
Here it is:
Smiling is infectious, you catch it like the flu
When someone smiled at me today, I started smiling too
I walked around the corner and someone saw me grin
When he smiled I realised I had passed it on to him
I thought about that smile and then realised its worth
A single smile like mine, could travel round the earth
So if you feel a smile begin don't leave it undetected
Lets start an epidemic and get the world infected :D
I bet this makes you smile! If it doesn't, then I'm sorry, but you're probably dead and should lie down before you fall over.

A friend always smiles widely when he goes into a shop or meets people. It is a bit unnatural but it really works. While it might be fake at times, smiling can go a long way.
ReplyDeleteHi River,
ReplyDeleteI try to smile a lot (I'm happy so it's easy).
It's the way forward.
:o)
Cheers
PM
I'd way rather see a fake smile than a genuine growl, ya know? :)
ReplyDeleteIt also takes less muscles to smile than to frown. Energy conservation at its best.
ReplyDeleteI like to laugh and am generally happy despite my moniker, but God help me i hate cheery smiley strangers. Nothing ruins my day more than a complete stranger telling me to smile. I don't know why, it just annoys me. I'm sure I would smile back at you however.
ReplyDeleteI love to smile, but laughing is even better!!
ReplyDeleteSmiling doesn't cost anything, either...but, boy...the rewards are great! :)
ReplyDeleteAndrew; I don't fake smile when entering shops, but I do smile when saying hello to the salesperson or if I'm just looking at stuff and see things I like.
ReplyDeletePlasman; I'm generally happy too, but don't go around grinning a lot.
Happy Elf Christine; I got used to growls when working checkout, so they don't bother me, there's usually a good reason for grumpiness. Straight out bad temper is a different matter, I'm glad to see the back of those people.
Elephant's Child; that's true and if you study the wrinkles on the elderly, you can often tell if they've been happy smilers or grumpy grumblers throughout life.
fishducky; I love to laugh, full on out loud belly laughs that make you stagger and bring tears to the eyes are the best. There's not enough of that around these days.
Lee; they're often the best rewards too, better than money.
A wonderful quote, thanks :)
ReplyDeleteI also love this one ~
“A hug is the perfect gift, one size fits all, and nobody minds if you exchange it.”
Thanks for posting the poem. It is really true. It usually catches the person off guard and then most return the smile. One smile to you
