this should work

I've managed to add a list of the blogs that I read, it's a scrolling list over on the left. If you can't see it, reduce the size of your page and it should appear.

I don't know how to get it onto the side where it always was, and I don't know how to keep it visible on a regular size page. I may have to try playing around with widths and things, but that's going to have to be another day.

On that same scrolling sidebar are the 'home' link and the 'Words for Wednesday stories' link, they should work.

    1. Elephant's Child; can you see or find the scrolling sidebar on the left?

    2. I can. And the link to the stories worked for me too.

    3. Elephant's Child; that's good to know. I'll get started on editing more chapters in a day or two.

  3. The fonts you have used are nice and I think the header photo is ok, but sorry to say otherwise looking at it with Chrome, it is a bit of disaster. Archive (the bottom tab, not the top list), Labels and Report Abuse are good. I am sure you prefer honesty. I don't like the blue background at all.

    1. Andrew; I'm sorry you don't like it, I didn't think it would look different with Chrome. I fussed around with it most of the day trying to get things to work, so I won't be changing it anytime soon, maybe eventually I can change the light blue. Is the ocean part okay?

    2. Yes, I like the ocean picture.

  4. It works, but as Andrew says. For my stupid (not just old) eyes, when I make the blog small enough for the sidebars to be seen, I can barely read the letters. Embiggening and diminishing as needs arise is of course an option.
As I said, it works, so please continue fiddling at your leisure. I'm sorry to be so far avay, else I'd love to come over for a cup pf tea and some computer-taming ;)

    1. Uglemor; I can always get my daughter to have a look at things next time she gets a day off. she good at sussing things out. I know the tiny font is bad, maybe I can fix just that part. I'll have another look at layout tomorrow.

    2. As it works now, I'd let it be until Daugther and you could work all things through together. It's so much easier and mind soothing to be two to conquer the quirks of Blogger & Co.

  5. On my side, I see a long list going down but not really understandable. Seems a bit wonky but you're getting closer.

  6. The sidebar is totally wonky and unreadable and I have no idea where the 'stories' are stored. I tried 2 different browsers and aside from a basic post I can't read or access any any part of your blog.

    1. Grace; the link to the stories is on the side bar near the top, but to the right of the blog list.

  7. I think my problem might be the fact that I use Chrome also. I can read the basic post also but that is it.

  8. Just for the heck of it I used this 'theme' on my archive blog and 1. This theme doesn't seem to allow for a right hand sidebar. 2. The width of the sidebar may have something to do with why some folks can see it properly or not. On my test version the width of the sidebar is set at 281 pixels and it shows up fine in all my browsers.

    1. Grace; so I should try expanding the pixels size for it? Disappointing that I've lost the righthand sidebar. And I don't seem to be able to get the old theme back.
      I'll keep trying.

    2. This particular theme is customizable to a great extent (except for the sidebar thing) and yes, you can change the width of the sidebar and the post area as well. You should be able to change the header photo and probably add your own custom header as well. This theme is well designed for mobile viewing because on my iPad all I see initially is the main post but in the upper left corner are the 3 horizontal lines that indicate 'Menu" and when I click on that then I see an easily readable sidebar.

  9. So far so good, River. Job well done. The print is a bit light...but that could be my computer/monitor.

I hate changing things and always have a nervous breakdown thinking I'm going stuff the lot up! :)

  10. I can't find your story page and there is nothing on either side on whatever it is that I'm using.google I thinl...but the photo up top is lovely.

    1. only slightly confused; the ocean picture is what drew me in, now I'm disappointed. To see the scrolling side bar you'll need to reduce the size of the page by holding CTRL and pressing - but that makes everything way too small to read, but on that scrolling sidebar near the top and to the right of the blog list is the link to the Wednesday Words stories.

    1. messymimi; thank you, but too many people are having trouble with it. I'll try getting back the old theme or at least something similar. Just not soon because I've done enough fooling around, several knuckles are quite swollen now.

    2. Yes, fishducky points out the real problem. After looking at a few times, I am finding it quite stylish and elegant.

  14. I thought I was at the wrong blog because of your new template but it's refreshing to see your blog with lighter colors.

this template you're using is designed to have the side items hidden unless you click on the menu which I kind of like because it presents the content without distractions. I honestly do not like this particular template because you cannot preview comments - I use that feature a lot because I can't spell well.

looking at the ocean, I kind of miss your previous photo that you used for your header. that one just seems more personal.

of course this is your blog so you can do whatever you like.

    have a lovely day.

    1. lissa; I didn't realise that things would be hidden and I can't even see 'menu' anywhere to be clicking on it. I've never been able to preview comments, not that I know of anyway.

    2. so you've never noticed the 'preview' button on the right of the 'publish' button when you leave comments on blogspots blogs? I guess you don't need it, you seem to be pretty good with spelling.

it's very strange how some people have problems with blogs but I never did. sometimes you do need to sort of wade through a blog and see how everything works.

      have a lovely day.

  15. I can find everything. It's like trying to figure out the radio and heater/air conditioning controls in a new car. I'm not good with change. But at least I'm not driving while I do it!

    1. Val; you seem to be the only one who can find everything, you get the gold star. I think some might have problems because they're on google chrome, which I personally hate because of the trouble I had with it when I tried it. Wordpress people might also have difficulties.
