Sunday Selections #106

Welcome back to Sunday Selections!

This once-a- week-meme was originally begun by Kim of Frog Ponds Rock, as a way to showcase some of the many photos we all take, but don't get around to showing on our blogs.

The rules are very simple:-
1. post photos of your choice, old or new, under the Sunday Selections title
2. link back to me, River, somewhere in your post
3. leave me a comment so that I know you've joined in and can come over and see what you've posted.

The Elephant's Child is also continuing with Sunday Selections as often as she can.

I usually go with a theme for my Sunday Selections and this week I'm continuing with some photos taken in the Botanic Gardens here in Adelaide.

These photos were all taken inside the glass enclosure that houses our giant Amazon Lily.
I didn't stop to check the names of these plants because it is very humid in there.
I believe this may be a variety of the Ginger family.

Contrasts and textures were everywhere.

Reflections too.
One of the lilies in the pond, but not the Amazonian Lily, that opens later in the year.
And it is much, much larger.

Here you can see the size of the lily pads.
The sheets of glass overhanging the water have information about the Amazonian Lily printed on them.

There are speckled leaves,

and striped ones.
Plain and shiny ones too, in all shades of green.

Twin blooms.

A pineapple lily.

Almost good enough to eat.
mmm, pineapple.

  4. I was in that glass house just after it was opened but havent been back since. travelling down from here it's usually a quick trip with things to do and no time for excursions but your photos make me want to visit again soon..

  5. Elephant's Child; I don't wander around in there too often. I'd have millions of photos to process otherwise.

Andrew; yes, that is the name for ginger that I couldn't remember.

Mimsie; you're welcome. Perhaps you could join in sometimes.

Tempo; it's worth dropping in now and again, just to see what's new, for instance, the rain forest enclosure that used to have admission fees is now free.
