Sunday Selections #147

Welcome back to Sunday Selections!

This once-a- week-meme was originally begun by Kim of Frog Ponds Rock, as a way to showcase some of the many photos we all take, but don't get around to showing on our blogs.
Kim spends more time writing at The Shake these days.

The rules are very simple:-
1. post photos of your choice, old or new, under the Sunday Selections title
2. link back to me, River, somewhere in your post
3. leave me a comment so that I know you've joined in and can come over and see what you've posted.
4. hop on over to TheElephant’s Child to see more of her wonderful photos.

Kath and Andrew often join in as well, although Kath has been quite busy lately and unable to join us.
There are several other participants now though:
Jackie K at WorkingThrough It

I usually go with a theme for my Sunday Selections but this week I have something entirely different.

Not the clearest photos I ever took, but that's the fun of Sunday Selections. You can put up any old thing you choose.

Hutt Street at night.
I was waiting for a bus after my writing class last week.

the roses along the median strip.

lights in the upstairs windows across the road.

cars coming.....

cars going.

oh look! there's a bottle of water waiting for the bus.

the house (business?) across the street

a busy restaurant on the corner across from the previous photo. I don't know what that big white building is behind it.

In case any of you are worried about me being out alone at night, I was perfectly safe. The bus stop is right beside a service station, there were other restaurants doing business, it wasn't too late, plenty of people around, and I only waited ten minutes for my bus.

Comments

  1. Glad to hear that you were safe. I hope that bottle of water didn't wait too long for its bus.
I love the way that things look so different at night - a different place entirely.

  2. The white building is a contrast to the building it is next to. It looks interesting.

Plenty of women use trams here late at night. It is very rare for anyone to have any problem. They are more likely to have issues with taxis drivers.

  3. An interesting little slice of life....thanks.

  4. Moments in your daily life, each one its own drama! That's how I felt about Thomas Kincaid paintings--I didn't really care about all the details. I wondered about who was in side the house, what they were doing.

  5. what everyone else said dear River.
It all look so balmy and pleasant.
That 'house opposite' is such a typical Adelaider - the sandstone and timberwork. x x

  6. I am not out and about at night so it was great to see those pictures and they were so descriptive too. At least you had a bottle of water to keep you company and those lit windows give you food for thought while waiting. Who lives there etc. Excellent choice.
P.S. Another book on its way to you. I really must get a roll of brown paper. On my next shopping list.

  7. Elephant's Child; I would love to take more night photos, dusk and sunset too, but I can't always get home safely from places where the sunset etc is visible. I could ask a friend, but then there'd be two of us out after dark waiting for buses.

Andrew; I'd love to have a tram going down Hutt Street but it still wouldn't get me close enough to home. Our taxi drivers are getting bashed up by rowdies, one of them may lose an eye, certainly the sight in that eye.

Delores; you're welcome.I'd ask for night photos of your area, but you'd freeze while getting them at this time of year.

Joanne; me too, everything looks so different.

Susan Kane; me too!! I see houses in paintings and photos and imagine the interiors and people.

Ann O'Dyne; it was more chilly than balmy, but still and quiet. I like the old sandstone places.

Mimsie; I'm not often out at night, more in the summer when more people are about, so I feel safer. The lit windows were an office building of some sort.
I look forward to another book. Brown paper can be bought in Woolworths by the stationery items, it's usually on the bottom shelf.

  8. I found these photos oddly fascinating. It's interesting how "nothing" (waiting for a bus) can still generate some interesting photos. A peek into someone's life or a place, is always interesting!
Hope you're enjoying the writing course.

    Micro moments in time.

  10. Jackie K; if it hadn't been late at night I might have been reading my book and these photo would never have happened, but I couldn't risk missing the bus.

Vicki; micro moments, I like that.
